3 The Smart City is one where the data infrastructure of the city becomes as important as the physical infrastructure of the city This can manifest itself in a number of ways: the connectivity of the city and the physical infrastructure that underpins that Cities are collectors and users of data, but are only just coming to terms with the exponential increase in data the number of connected devices that we use everyday the move towards smart systems: smart grid, smart energy, smart transport, smart lighting all of which require IP enabled devices the need to store much more data - and the need to process it fast for a variety of purposes
