1 Parent Guide to the Georgia Department of Education Website and School Resources What is the Georgia Department of Education? The Georgia Department of Education [or GaDOE] oversees public education throughout the state, ensuring that laws and regulations pertaining to education are followed and that state and federal money appropriated for education is properly allocated to local school systems. The department also informs parents, teachers, government officials and the media of education- related news. ( department- education). The Georgia Department of Education s website contains resources, information, and links to the curriculum that students are currently learning in their schools. The GaDOE website can be accessed through the link as pictured above. What kind of resources can be found on the GaDOE website? There are many resources that can be utilized from the GaDOE website. By following the link below to the homepage, individuals can view parent and student information about upcoming tests, current curriculum, as well as updated information from the state about any particular school. Information that can help to better prepare students for everyday life in the classroom as well as for the CRCT are readily available by clicking on the parent and student tabs as shown on the following page.
2 These tabs feature links such as What does my student need to know?, Study Guides and Assessments, and Graduation and College plans as well as many more. Finding the Standards: The GaDOE website provides parents with access to the CCGPS standards that are taught to their children everyday. To find the CCGPS standards, follow the steps below: 1. Go to the GaDOE website: 2. Click on Home, in the drop down box hover the mouse over Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment 3. From that drop down box, click on the link labeled Curriculum and Instruction as pictured below. 4. From the Curriculum and Instruction page click on the link, on the right hand side, to the CCGPS standards as depicted below.
3 5. The link will take you to the website: 6. From this website, click on the tab at the top of the screen labeled Georgia Performance Standards. 7. Once on the GPS page, look on the left hand side of the computer screen, click on the link titled GPS by Grade Level, K- 8. As depicted below: 8. From the GPS by Grade Level, K- 8 page, you will be able to find your child s grade level and select a link to any content area, which will take you to the standards being taught in the classroom. The picture below depicts what the standards page looks like. How can I find the CCRPI Report? CCRPI is a school improvement, accountability, and communication tool that promotes college and career readiness for all Georgia public school students. To find the CCRPI report for Kilough: 1. Go to 2. At the top select district, then select school. 3. The CCRPI Report can be found below.
4 How can I access Learn Zillion? Learn Zillion is a free resource from the state that enables teachers to assign great video lessons and assessments to students in grades 2-9 as well as track learning progress. To access Learn Zillion, follow the directions below: 1. Go to: 2. Once there, scroll down to view a screen like the one below. 3. Click on the link for parents & administration as seen here. 4. Users who o not have an account already you will be asked to register. During this process, users will be required to submit an address, create a password, and select a grade level and chose a subject area. 5. Once registration is complete, users will be able to access resources for ELA and Math from 2 nd 12 th grades. Acronyms The GaDOE website includes many acronyms that are not fully explained. Below is a list of the most commonly used acronyms and their meanings. Familiarizing ones self with these terms will allow parents to make better use of the website.
