You may qualify for Habitat for Humanity s Veteran Repair Corps Program Veteran Repair Corps Program Copper Country Habitat for Humanity is partnering with The Home Depot Foundation to launch a Repair Corps Program, a joint initiative to provide repairs on homes for U.S. military veterans and their families. This program is designed to provide affordable critical repairs with a small zero-percent interest loan for owner-occupied homes that are the primary residence of a Veteran. This program is intended to create a solution for homes that are in serious need of repair and upgrade. Examples Include: Code Related Improvements Bringing electric and plumbing systems up to code. Accessibility Improvements Installing ramps, widening doorways, installing accessible sinks, toilets and showers. Energy Efficiency Improvements Replacing appliances (furnace, water heater, refrigerator, etc.) and windows. Upgrading ducts and ventilation. Structural Improvements Replacing siding, roofs, gutters, downspouts, soffits, fascia, porches, driveway and sidewalk (for mobility only), floors, joists and doors. Improving drainage. Replacing toilets, showers and sinks. If you are approved, a Home Assessment will be performed to determine the exact improvements available for your home. Minimum Qualifications: Must be an honorably-discharged Veteran who lives in an owner-occupied home. The Veteran does not have to be the owner, but the home does have to be owner-occupied and the Veteran s primary residence. Live in Houghton, Baraga or Keweenaw County Have a need for critical home repairs Willingness to partner with Habitat Participants will be required to invest sweat equity hours in Habitat activities. Ability to make an affordable monthly payment This is a payback program, but at a deeply discounted rate. Habitat will discuss this thoroughly with applicants prior to final approval. Income qualifications with proof of income No minimum income qualifications. Must not exceed maximums listed below. (see chart) Must be able to provide proof of ownership of home and current home-owners insurance Must be current with mortgage, home-owners insurance and property taxes. Rental properties are ineligible. Copper Country Habitat for Humanity is now accepting applications for this program. A limited number will be approved.
