5 Presenters Brook K. Colgan, BS, MPH, IBCLC Brook has worked in maternity care quality improvement for over six years in multiple states including North Carolina, Georgia and New York. She has developed training curricula and facilitated trainings on obtaining Baby Friendly certifications to over 800 healthcare workers. This includes facilitating a Train-the-Trainer in Dhaka, Bangladesh with Helen Keller International and Save the Children. She obtained a Master of Science in Public Health with a specialization in Maternal and Child Health and has worked as an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant for the last five years. Brook has worked in the inpatient and outpatient setting as an IBCLC, facilitating both the mother and infant with initiation of breastfeeding. She also addresses more complex maternal and infant complications related to breastfeeding. Have led Ground Rounds discussions as well as lectures at conferences and trainings. Karen D Apolito, PhD, MSN Dr. D Apolito has been working with infants that experience intrauterine drug withdrawals since With the development of an inter-observer reliability program, nurses are able to properly assess infants for signs of Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS) with accuracy. I have also been CO-PI on two grants: One which involves the signs of NAS in infants exposed to either methadone of buprenorphine in utero; and the second one which currently looks at the treatment of NAS with oral morphine vs methadone. I have spoken locally, nationally and internationally about the care and management of infants with NAS and just recently completed a survey that was sent throughout the state of Tennessee to determine management of infants with NAS. Tracey Dellacona, RN, MBA Attorney at Law, Dellacona Law Firm, Macon, GA Mrs. Dellacona, serves as legal consultant on medical issues for Fox News in Macon, GA. She is a frequent guest lecturer on medical negligence issues at numerous legal workshops and healthcare facilities around the State of Georgia. Mrs. Dellacona, conducts peer review analysis on articles submitted to Trial Magazine and is a published author in Trial. She has also been an invited guest speaker at the conventions for the national American Association for Justice. Nancy Feinstein, PhD, RN Perinatal Nurse Consultant and VP/Partner in COPE for HOPE, Inc. Dr. Nancy Feinstein is a nationally recognized expert with over 35 years of clinical, teaching, and research experience as a perinatal nurse. She works with hospitals in implementing evidence-based programs. She has conducted intervention research to promote coping particularly women coping with preterm labor, as Principal Investigator, and with parents coping with the birth on premature infant, as Co-Investigator of the Improving outcomes of LBW Premature Infants and Parents study funded by the National Institute of Nursing Research, NIH. She is an author and co-author on multiple evidence-based peer reviewed articles and papers presented nationally and internationally. Her education includes earning her BSN from State University of Albany and a Master s Degree with a focus on the developing family from Catholic University. She earned her PhD in Nursing at the University of Rochester. Most recently, Dr. Feinstein presented at the IPDC Enhancing Practice 2014 International Conference in Toronto, Ontario with Katherine Hirter from Bern, Switzerland on The implementation of an Education Program for Parents of Premature Babies in Switzerland. She was also co-author with RJ Shaw et al. on Prevention of Postpartum Traumatic Stress in Mothers with Preterm Infants: Manual development and Evaluation. She also has served on national committees for the Association of Women s health and Neonatal Nursing (AWHONN) and was a co-developer/author of the AWHONN Fetal Heart Monitoring Program. Jeffrey S. Fouche-Camargo, DNP, APRN, WHNP-BC, RNC-OB, C-EFM Perinatal Practice Specialist, Gwinnett Women s Pavilion Dr. Fouche-Carmargo is an experienced OB nurse with over 20+ years in his field with 11 of those spent as an Advanced Practice Nurse. Dr. Fouche-Carmargo currently works at the Gwinnett Women s Pavilion as a Perinatal Practice Specialist and serves as President of the Perinatal Nurse Consulting of Georgia, LLC. He is also the GA AWHONN Chair. Holding certifications in inpatient obstetrical nursing, women s health NP, and electronic fetal monitoring, Dr. Fouche-Carmargo shows how committed he is to providing excellent care to his patients. Dr. Fouche-Carmargo is also affiliated with many professional entities such as AWHONN, ANA and the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing. 4

6 Presenters Franklyn H. Geary, Jr., MD, MPH Professor, Residency Program Director, and Chief of Service Morehouse School of Medicine Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology, Division of Maternal Fetal Medicine Geary is a native Atlantan, attended Northside High School. He received a BA degree in Chemistry from Emory College of Emory University and participated in many extracurricular activities. Dr. Geary earned his medical degree from Emory University School of Medicine. He was a founding member of the Student National Medical Association (SNMA) Chapter at Emory and served as President. He was Secretary of the Medical Student Advisory Council and the Medical School Representative to the Student Government Association. After medical school graduation, he attended the Emory-Grady Affiliated Residency Training Program in Gynecology and Obstetrics at Grady Memorial Hospital. Upon completion of residency, Dr. Geary joined the Emory faculty and served as the co-course director of the junior student clerkship and was the Director of the Gynecology Emergency Clinic. He completed a fellowship in Maternal Fetal Medicine also at Emory and is double boarded in General Obstetrics and Gynecology as well as in Maternal Fetal Medicine. Upon completion of fellowship in 1993, Dr. Geary joined Dr. Nelson McGhee at the Morehouse School of Medicine in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He served as the Chief of Service at Grady Hospital and Division Director of Maternal Fetal Medicine. In addition, he served as Interim Chair of the Department from 1998 to One of Dr. Geary s most outstanding accomplishments was being instrumental in establishing the residency-training program in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Morehouse School of Medicine. As Interim Chair and Program Director, he graduated his first group of residents in During his academic tenure, he received numerous teaching and service awards. His research interests include intimate partner violence and HIV in pregnancy. Cathy Jones, ADN, BSN Wellstar Perinatal Fellowship Faculty Cathy has 23 years experience as a registered nurse with 20 of those years in obstetrical nursing. Credentialed in inpatient obstetrics and electronic fetal monitoring, Cathy is also an AWHONN FHM Instructor, a member of the Wellstar Perinatal Fellowship Faculty, Master trainer for TeamSTEPPS, and the current Georgia Section AWHONN Secretary/Treasurer. In current role as clinical educator, Cathy is extensively involved in team training which focuses on improving and standardizing communication between team members through simulation based training. Cathy also serves as clinical educator for Labor/Delivery and Antepartum units as well as oversees all the education competencies for all RN s, surgical technologist, clinical care partners and unit secretaries in assigned area(s). Currently pursing MSN, Liberty University. Jason Lesandrini, PhD(c) Medical Ethicist, WellStar Kennestone, Kennesaw, GA Lesandrini is the Medical Ethicist for WellStar Kennestone, Kennesaw, GA. He is also an adjunct faculty member for the Physician Assistant program at Mercer University. He was the Religion and Public Life Fellow for Georgia State University. He sits on numerous local ethics committees and worked as the ethics resource for the Mass Fatality Planning Group in Georgia. His overall goal as the ethicist at Grady Health System is to provide leadership and resources to promote ethical behavior and decision-making aligned with the mission, vision and values of the health system. He does this by serving as an advocate for fair decision-making processes and the creation of a thriving moral community. To this end, He works toward building staff capacities for ethical decision-making, promote a thriving moral community within the hospital to improve patient care, and create integrated, sustainable and accountable ethics resources from bedside to boardroom. 5

7 Presenters Dr. Michael K. Lindsay Chief of the Gynecology and Obstetrics Service, Grady Health System Dr. Michael Lindsay received in BS degree in chemistry from Morehouse College, MD degree from Yale University and MPH in Epidemiology from Emory. He completed his postgraduate training at Boston City Hospital and his fellowship in Maternal Fetal Medicine at the University of Cincinnati and is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and Maternal Fetal Medicine. Dr. Lindsay is Chief of the Gynecology and Obstetrics Service at the Grady Health System and is the Luella Klein Associate Professor and Director, division of Maternal Fetal Medicine at the Emory University School of Medicine at Grady Hospital. He s currently a member of ACOG District IV Maternal Mortality Committee, Georgia Representative; a member of the Board and Advisory council for the Georgia Obstetrical and Gynecological Society: Co-Chair of the Georgia maternal Mortality Review Committee on Ethics of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists; the Grady Hospital Ethics Committee; and the Obstetrics and Gynecology section of the National Medical Association. He s also a member of ACOG, AMA, NMA, Society of Maternal Fetal Medicine and Association and Board Examiner for the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, for both general and subspecialty boards. Dr. Lindsay s professional career has been dedicated to providing clinical services to underserved women and conducting clinical research on determinants of adverse pregnancy outcome in this population. Terri Miller, BA, MPH Safe to Sleep Campaign Coordinator, Program Consultant for the Georgia Department of Public Health Ms. Miller has worked as a social worker, health educator and, program coordinator for the past 16 years. The majority of this time was spent in child welfare and unintentional injury prevention. With experience both domestically and internationally, Ms. Miller pulls from a diverse background to inform her current role as Safe to Sleep Campaign Coordinator for the Georgia Department of Public Health. The expectation of the Safe to Sleep Campaign is to address the barriers that prevent every baby from enjoying safe sleep for every sleep. One method is to encourage conversations with parents, caregivers, and practitioners on how to best increase the protection of infants during sleep. Erica Mills, PhD, RN Erica has been a nurse for eleven (11) years and currently works at Grady Health System as a facilitator for corporate nursing orientation where she teaches novice and veteran nurses the skills they need to be successful in providing excellent care to patients. Just recently, Erica, served as co-coordinator of the health system s first Perinatal Residency Program. With a graduating class of seven (7), Erica s main focus was developing not only the professional side, but personal side of nursing as well. As an entrepreneur, Erica has journeyed into several different arenas such as owning her own literary consulting company and working as an online instructor for Grand Canyon University. In 2014, Erica, received her PhD in philosophy while writing many scholarly papers which she hopes to be published one day. Erin Torzewski, D.C. Owner/Chiropractor, The Body Well, Atlanta, GA Dr. Torzewski is a noted speaker and wellness doctor. She owns and operates a family wellness chiropractic practice in Atlanta, GA. Dr. Torzewski presents frequently to corporations, groups, and organizations on the importance of including chiropractic care as a holistic approach to staying well. She has a passion for serving pregnant and pediatric patients to ensure a healthy pregnancy, delivery, and transition into the world. Like many other chiropractors, Dr. Torzewski discovered chiropractic through personal experience and only wishes her parents would have known the chiropractic story at the time of her birth. She was finishing her B.S. in chemistry at Indiana State University when she found herself in the office of a chiropractor. As a result of that experience she had an epiphany regarding the true nature of health. She fell in love with the science, philosophy, and art of chiropractic and has deepened her passion since graduating from Logan College of Chiropractic in
