WHO Programme: Priority Medical Devices In 2007 the World Health Organization (WHO), in collaboration with the Government of the Netherlands, launched the "Priority Medical Devices" project to determine whether medical devices currently on the market were meeting the needs of health care providers and end-users throughout the world and if not, to propose research to identify and action to remedy inadequacies or shortcomings. The aim of the project is to bring medical devices to the attention of policy makers and to help guide both industry and government public health spending.
Dutch programme development of Priority Medical Devices Launch of New Medical Devices (NIG) by FOM, STW, ICTRegie, ZonMW, NWO. Fase I: 100 project proposals submitted (April 2009) Fase II: 24 Center proposals (May 2009) 14 Center propositions (December 2009) International Review Panel review (Finalized August 2010) IMDI.nl launch at Health&Technology Congress by WHO PMDproject leader, Ms. J. Hansen (15 sept 2010) Public presentation of the IMDI.nl by the chairman of the scientific council for government policy (WRR), Prof. A Knottnerus, and introduction of 8 Centers of Research Excellence (CoREs) on November 18, Positioning of IMDI in TOP sectors Life Science and HTMS (Sept 2011)

Diagnostic imaging network of the top national research centers regarding PET and high-field MR technology into one platform (TREADMILL TRacer Evaluation And Development in Magnetic Imaging Laboratories) Human (simultaneous and sequential) PET-MRI will be validated regarding possible indications in the major domains on brain, oncological, cardiovascular and inflammatory/infectious disorders Implementation according to health technology assessment (HTA) outcomes TREADMILL
TREADMILL Neuro: methods that relate different time-scales of variations in brain function functional receptor binding / network activation studies Applications in Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease, Diffuse Lewy Body Disease and Traumatic Brain Injury. Oncology: High resolution visualization and demarcation of the uptake of specific radiotracers (PET) combined with information on tumor vasculature Identification of possible radioresistant subregions within tumors for radiation dose escalation Early response monitoring for decision making for further treatment including systemic anticancer therapy Better visualization and demarcation of critical normal structures More reproducible methods to assess late radiation-induced side effects following treatment Cardiovascular: detection of CAD using angiography combined with the reference method of PET for the evaluation of myocardial perfusion reserve atherosclerotic plaque characterization imaging of stem cells and evaluation of angiogenesis
