13 DevOps Café Challenges -1 How do we deal with extreme DevOps organizational stove-pipe challenges such as Operations and Development existing in a completely separate government agencies? How do I deal with compliance barriers (e.g., security or governance compliance) that make continuous integration, development and delivery a challenge? How do we address limitations in test automation, continuous integration and virtualization expertise and tools within government? What are patterns for success when we have a lack of champion for DevOps and/or end-to-end deployment streamlining efforts to reduce release cycle time?

14 DevOps Café Challenges -2 How do we deal with delays in obtaining adequate development and testing platforms/infrastructure environments and still get the software delivered when promised? How do we deal with challenges where environments are not congruent and deployment is perpetually manual and risky (e.g., testing is not congruent with production)? How do we deal with overpacked release schedules which cause neglect of non-functional aspects such as reliability, security, etc. leading to late discovery of problems and deployment delays?

16 Keynote Speakers Sam Brown is an Operations Manager at Blackboard, Inc. and co-organizer of the DC Continuous Delivery Meetup group with over 600 local members. Prior to Blackboard, Sam was a consultant in the DC area specializing in helping teams transition to Continuous Delivery through software engineering best practices and collaboration with operations teams. Sam loves to focus on emerging technologies in the DevOps space like Puppet and Chef and is a Puppet Certified Professional as well as a Certified Scrum Master. Matt Makai (@mattmakai) is a Twilio Developer Evangelist and Python stack web developer based in Washington, D.C. In 2013, Matt traveled to 30 cities in 5 months for his Coding Across America project to learn from software communities outside the Beltway and apply those ideas to the D.C. tech scene. He was also a DjangoCon speaker in Chicago on "Making Django Play Nicely with Third Party Services" as well as a speaker throughout the past year at Memphis Python, Omaha Python, Django Boston, DC Python, and San Francisco Django, and DC Continuous Delivery. Matt writes Full Stack Python to help new developers understand how to deploy their web applications into production. 16
