1 HOW TO Access Your Student Loans on NSLDS (National Student Loan Data System) Make Sure You Have Your fsa id Before Beginning! As of May 10th, 2015 all students and parents must use the new FSA ID instead of the previously used FAFSA PIN. Don t Have Your fsa id Yet? Forgotten Your fsa id? Jump to page 3 of this guide Follow these easy steps to access your student loans on nslds: Go to and click on Financial Aid Review. Review the terms and click on Accept. Enter your FSA ID Username and Password and then click on Log In. You are now capable of viewing all of your federal loans and grants. You will be able to view the amount of your loans, whether they have been disbursed or are still pending, what type of federal loans you have and the status of your federal loans. For any further questions regarding your NSLDS data, contact the Federal Student Aid Information Center at FED-AID. 1

No interest is charged while you are in school at least half-time or more. FFEL or Direct Unsubsidized Loan A student loan that is not based on financial need. The interest begins accruing from the time of disbursement. Perkins Loan A need-based, low interest loan, that is awarded to the student by the school they are attending. common types of loans & grants FFEL or Direct Consolidation A consolidation will allow you to combine all of your federal loans into one single loan so that only one monthly payment is being made. Pell Grant Need-based grants that do not need to be paid back. Pell grant amounts are determined based on the EFC (Estimated Family Contribution). common status descriptions BK Bankruptcy claim - active FB Forbearance CA Canceled IA Loan originated DA Deferred ID In school or grace period DC Defaulted - compromise IG In grace period DF Defaulted - unresolved IP In post-deferment grace period DI Disability PF Paid in full DN Defaulted then paid in full through a consolidated loan RP In repayment DP Defaulted - paid in full XD Defaulted, six consecutive payments DU Defaulted - unresolved 2
3 Forgotten Your FSA ID Username and/or Password? 1 Go to 2 Click on the appropriate link and follow the steps on the following screen. 3
4 Haven t Created Your FSA ID Username and/or Password Yet? If this is your first visit to NSLDS, or you previously used your FAFSA PIN to access the site, you will need to create an FSA ID to access the site. This process takes a few minutes but will provide you with a much more secure log in process for your Federal Student Loan information. 1 Go to 2 Click on the Create an FSA ID tab. Enter your address Choose a username and password Click on continue 4
5 3 Enter your SSN, Date of Birth, and Full Name then click on continue. 4 If you have a previously issued FAFSA PIN it is recommended to link it to your new FSA ID at this step. Doing so will provide you with immediate access. If you choose to proceed without linking your PIN the validation process will take 1-3 days before your FSA ID may be used. Enter your FAFSA PIN and click on verify OR click on continue without PIN For those that have never had a FAFSA PIN previously, click on continue without PIN ~OR~ 5

7 6 Choose your challenge questions and answers and click continue. 7 Review and confirm all of your information is correct, read the terms and conditions, then check the confirmation box and click on continue. 7
8 8 Verify your . This is optional but recommended. Check the you provided earlier for your secure code. Enter it here and hit continue, or click on continue without verifying. 9 Return to and log in using your new FSA ID and return to the top of this user guide. Note: If you did not have an existing FAFSA PIN to link, or chose not to link your PIN, then you will need to wait 1-3 days before your FSA ID will be validated and you will be able to log in. The completion message you should see looks like this And the alerting you that you are now able to log in will look like this Upon receiving the return to page 1 of this user guide and proceed to access NSLDS. 8
