1 Snohomish County Department Of Emergency Management Training and Exercise Schedule January Welcome to the first edition of the Snohomish County DEM Training and Exercise Schedule! This monthly T & E schedule will keep Snohomish County, city, and Tribal Nation partners informed of upcoming training and exercise opportunities offered by DEM and regional emergency management jurisdictions, Washington State Emergency Management Division, FEMA, Department of Homeland Security and various academic institutions. There s a new Training Sheriff in town: Daniel Good, formerly of the Emergency Services Coordinating Agency (ESCA), became DEM s Training Program Manager as of last June. Dan is a certified FEMA Master Trainer, Certified Emergency Manager (CEM), and holds a Master s degree in Emergency and Disaster Management. He arrived with a full suitcase of knowledge and skills well suited to launch a robust training program for our city and tribal emergency management staffs. Mark Murphy is now the Exercise Program Manager. Mark also holds a Master s degree in Emergency and Disaster Management and is DEM s lead Program Manager with overall responsibility for EOC Operations. Together, Mark and Dan are dedicated to the delivery of quality training and exercise programs in Snohomish County. Page of 21

There is also a wide array of Independent Study (IS) courses through FEMA s Emergency Management Institute s Independent Study Program. Go to and take a look. 4 WEBINARS Title Date Time Information Registration Tuesday, 10:30 am January 20, 12:00 pm Cascadia Scenario Webinar Purpose: The Cascadia Subduction Zone (CSZ) Scenario Webinars will educate Cascadia Rising 2016 Exercise participants on the expected damages caused by a magnitude 9.0 CSZ earthquake and tsunami based on the most current modeling and science. The webinars will then introduce the Exercise Scenario Document which provides the foundation for exercise design, ramp-up events, and conduct. 11 Joint Information System/Center for PIOs (G-291) May 7, Camp Murray This course builds on competencies gained in the Basic PIO course (G- 290) applying those skills in an expanding incident where coordination is enhanced by establishing a JIS/JIC. This training will equip PIOs with the skills needed to establish and operate in a JIS/JIC. Participants will gain a working knowledge of operational practices for per-forming PIO duties in the NIMS multi-agency coordination system. The course will demonstrate how JIC concepts are applied in a flexible and scalable manner at the local levels.
