2 Panasonic HDVC FAQs Quick Reference General How much does a Panasonic video conference system cost? HD video conferencing systems vary widely in cost from $5-100 sk for everything per room. As well, other video conferencing systems require additional features, such as dedicated bandwidth, special cameras and management systems, or charge a monthly fee and additional per-call costs. Make sure that while researching a system, you uncover the total cost of ownership not just the initial investment. With Panasonic, you pay for the equipment needed to make a call a codec, and camera. You ll find that all of our systems are surprisingly affordable. Is it worth the investment? ROI (Return On Investment) is a big topic these days and rightfully so. Be sure to work with your provider to determine the best way to prove the return on your video communications investment. Many companies find that they reduce travel to meetings, saving both valuable time and money on a regular basis, and increasing overall productivity. Because Panasonic systems provide the highest quality at the lowest bandwidth, as well as an affordable price, return on investment is very easy to prove with our systems. How important is quality? Who in my organization could benefit from video conferencing? Anyone whose role requires in-person meetings and effective communication could see real value in video conferencing. The benefits grow for those who share presentations, three-dimensional objects (think product packages or circuit boards), or draw concepts on a white board for feedback, as long as video quality is high enough. Reducing travel, increasing productivity, saving time and money and going green are just a few of the benefits our clients realize through the use of HD video conferencing. Executives and their teams, professors and their students, medical practitioners and their patients, and service providers and their clients have already been benefiting from video communications for years. Video is now truly for anyone, anywhere, and quality has clients have already been benefiting from video communications for years. Panasonic is interoperable with most standards compliant systems running SIP protocols. Does Panasonic provide financing to end-users? Panasonic offers many different leasing programs through Marlin Leasing Corporation. Marlin is a principal operating subsidiary of Marlin Business Services CorpTM. Publicly traded on the NASDAQ: MRLN. Over $2.7 Billion in financing extended to small businesses. Marlin enables small businesses to grow by offering simple and convenient lease financing programs.
3 Panasonic HDVC FAQs Quick Reference User Benefits What is the benefit of Panasonic s acoustic echo cancellation or noise reduction technology? Multiple people can be talking at the same time without the audio breaking up while on a video conference. Just like in a face-to-face meeting, you can have multiple people talking at the same time. What is the microphone pickup range? The high quality digital mic has a maximum pick-up range of 3 meter (9.8 ft.) while the less expensive analog mic s pick-up range is 2 meters (6.5ft). What is the warranty for the Panasonic HD Video Communications system? The standard warranty offered with the systems is one year for both hardware and software. In addition, advanced replacement is available at an additional charge. For those needing extra support, we also offer advanced replacement on-site with on-site support. Is there an extended warranty I can purchase from Panasonic? Yes, there is an optional 3 year extended warranty coverage available Is Panasonic s software upgradable? Yes, the systems firmware is easily upgradable over the internet. We typical have 2 major upgrades per year with several minor revisions which are offered free of charge.
4 Panasonic HDVC FAQs Quick Reference Technical Does Panasonic employ encryption to secure calls? Yes, Panasonic utilizes the AES-CM encryption scheme to encrypt calls when enabled. This allows calls to be secured and offers users the security of knowing that their can be no eaves-dropping on their calls. Is the Panasonic HD Video Communications system compatible with the H.323 protocol? Panasonic uses the SIP protocol that is the current industry standard. The H.323 protocol is a legacy protocol used by other manufacturers. By utilizing a Multipoint Control Unit (MCU) or SIP to H.323 gateway, interoperability is achievable between these two types of modes. How complicated is the technology? And how does it fit with what we already have? The good news is that HD (High Definition) technology is more common than SD (Standard Definition) these days. But if you plan to interact with legacy systems, make sure that you invest only in standards-compatible systems those that work with both HD and SD. Solutions such as those from Panasonic can work with SD systems, but can also achieve HD video quality starting at 768 Kbps of bandwidth. Utilizing Panasonic s unique AV-QoS advanced quality of service capabilities, you can benefit from an HD video communications system on a public Internet. They can also run on most company networks, so there s no need to purchase expensive dedicated network. Is it difficult to set up videoconference equipment? How about making a call? How many different people can be on one call? Depending on how your video communication system will be used, you may require multiple sites to be on a call together. Some systems may only support point-to-point (one on one) calls on their own, and require additional hardware and investment for multipoint calls. The Panasonic HDVC600 is on the opposite end of the spectrum, supporting up to 4-way multipoint without extra hardware. If you are interested in replacing team or even company meetings at an affordable price, finding a video conferencing system that does not require additional hardware will give you the most bang for your buck in travel savings. Does high quality video communication needs too much bandwidth? Most businesses have no trouble allocating 1.5 Mbps over the public Internet a bandwidth that is quite cost effective and produces simply phenomenal 1080i HD video quality. But even at 768 Kbps, Standard HD quality 720p is achieved still a marked jump over traditional video conferencing. Panasonic systems utilize advanced network QoS so even calls over the public internet will continuously perform at the highest level possible. Is High Definition video communications possible over the public Internet? As Panasonic customers have proven time and again, HD video conferencing over the public internet is very possible. Even across continents, a 1.5 Mbps of bandwidth is more than enough bandwidth. Even over high demand periods, Panasonic systems utilize AV QoS which to keep the picture and audio quality at a very high level. Is HD video only for specialized applications (i.e. performing surgery, etc.)? Successful executives agree business is full of subtleties. As a society that has been relying on as a business tool for over a decade, we can all recall the times that an s tone was misinterpreted. Think of HD as your insurance policy that you won t miss a raised eyebrow, a concerned whisper, or an insightful reaction. Simply put, HD video communication is your way of knowing that you ll never miss a thing at least due to technology limitations. What is NAT Traversal Service? This service is an optional (license) service that end users can utilize to register to the Panasonic SIP Server and then use a 7 digit extension to dial other systems. The service negates the need to have a Public (Global) IP address and any system registered to this service has the ability to call and other HDVC system using the service. This includes both internal company calls as well as Business to Business (B2B) calls. What is 360 Degree Full Duplex Audio? No more leaning in to the microphone to be heard. The circular microphone allows participants seated as far as 3 meters anywhere to be heard clearly. What is Real Time Full HD Video? Panasonic offers both 1080p and 1080i. When there is a lot of motion in a conference such as when a video clip is being shown, 1080i can be utilized which offers a much better picture than 1080p delivers. For standard talking heads conferences, 1080p will be used to deliver incredibly sharp images. Can I add a secondary camera? Panasonic HDVC brings real-time collaboration to a whole new level, with a mobile HD camera that can be moved around the room. Ideal for exploring an issue on a device with minute details, or medical diagnoses. Is the unit easy to operate? Easy, User-Friendly Operation are the key to Panasonic HDVC. We firmly believe your meetings should be about your business, not the technology.
5 Panasonic HDVC FAQs Quick Reference Technical What are the minimum bandwidth requirements? Low Bandwidth Support: Minimum required IP rates of 192Kbps audio transmission only, 256Kbps for Audio and Video transmission, 1.5Mbps for Full HD (1080p) Audio and Video Transmission. Can I control the camera on the other side of the video conference? Both near and far end camera control is possible when both systems are utilizing our PTZ camera. Security features will allow a site to restrict a far end from controlling their camera. Can I see the other party as well as share data via computer? In point to point or multipoint calls all sides can see all other sites and the data being shared (charts, graphs and other presentation materials from a PC) at the same time. Note: The split screen feature (composite display) is available when all sites begin sharing a PC screen using a KX-VC600 running software version 2.3 What is software enhancement Version 2.3? Functions have been further enhanced in Version 2.3. This version upgrade makes the system easier to use and enhances the HD Visual Communications experience. Connect the new PTZ Camera*, which was made specifically for the HD Visual Communications System, and control the cameras at both your site and the other party s site with the HD Visual Communications System remote control. Composite PC Screen/Main Camera Image Display : This function makes it possible to view the other parties images while sharing a PC screen. * The composite display is only available when all sites begin sharing a PC screen using a Version 2.3 KX-VC600. In all other situations, only the PC screen is displayed. Composite displays are not supported for other-brand or MCU connections. Low Bandwidth Communication Supported: Now you can make a visual communication with lower bandwidth network. Minimum bandwidth requirement is as low as 256kbps/site for audio and visual communication. Even bandwidth goes down to 192kbps, you can maintain your communication with audio only*. *Default setting is OFF. When switching to audio-only communication, you must change the settings. External Control Interface: Basic operations such as transmission, and the external control interface (CGI) for information acquisition are disclosed. This makes it easy for partners to produce integrated controller software for systems that include other AV devices. Other-brand/MCU Connection Improvements: Certain limitations are resolved, such as the inability to send PC screen data due to insufficient reception capability by the other party when using other-brand or MCU connections. DHCP and SIP Server Compatibility for Standard Mode For standard mode (intranet connection): 1. DHCP compatibility allows dynamic address setting. 2. SIP server compatibility allows SIP-URI transmission. A DHCP server or SIP server must be installed. In addition, SIP settings (administrator settings) are required from the HD Visual Communications System side. Full HD supported in mixed 50-Hz/60-Hz: Communication using Full-HD[p] is possible even in a mixed 50-Hz/60-Hz environment. I have a KX-VC300NA, but will like to upgrade to a 4-site connection with full HD (1080i). Do I have to buy a new codec? All you need to do is purchase an activation key to add multi-point host capability or to get full HD (1080i) capability to upgrade your current codec.
