3 Available to: Active Duty Service Members Most AD students will use TA rather than GI Bill Veterans Spouses (no BAH if service member is on AD) Dependents Direct payment of tuition/fees to school-msu Bus. Office is flexible on late payments for these students Book/supply $ BAH stipend

4 Must have served on Active Duty $1200 contribution Monthly stipend paid direct to student ($1426 per month full time) Prorated if not full time

5 National Guard/Reservist who have completed Basic Training and AIT Must be in good standing with unit Often used at the same time as State Tuition Assistance programs Monthly stipend paid direct to student ($337 per month full time) Students often receive a kicker in addition for working in high-need fields

6 National Guard/Reservists called up for national duty Often used with State Tuition Assistance Monthly stipend paid directly to student ($ per month full time) May also have a kicker

7 Children and Spouses of Veterans who are either deceased or who have 100% disability ratings due to service-connected injury or illness ND resident veterans may also qualify for state tuition waiver Monthly stipend paid directly to the student ($936 per month full time)

8 Veterans with a service-connected injury/illness Direct billing to VA for tuition/fees, books, and supplies Monthly stipend varies depending on the number of dependents Meet regularly with VR Counselor to plan courses and monitor progress Handled by LaDona at the Business Office

9 Get approval from State Approving Agency for all new programs of study before any students may use benefits Submit certifications of enrollment for student each semester Certification of enrollment verifies that the student has enrolled for classes REQUIRED for his/her program of study Not allowed to be certified for classes not REQUIRED Repeats only allowed if better grade is required in that specific class in order to graduate and must achieve needed grade in second attempt Report all changes promptly End of term: Report Unsatisfactory Progress Report last date of attendance for each class for students who fail all courses Report any inappropriate repeats!

10 Report: Major (courses must be required for major on transcript) Number of on-campus cr Number of online cr Number of remedial cr Must document the need for remedial Math 102 Exact tuition & exact fees Exact start and end dates for courses- Training Time which is different from enrollment status

11 Must be reported within 30 days Will result in overpayments, especially for Ch. 33 students BAH will now be prorated if not full time, effective Fall 2011 Because Ch. 33 is front-loaded so heavily, drops have significant overpayment consequences if there is a tuition/fee difference between the amount initially charged and the amount that would have been charged if the student had started the term in the reduced amount of credits Every student gets one chance to drop up to 6 credits without the overpayment going all the way back to the start of the term

12 Students may seek reimbursement of test fees for PRAXIS, SAT, ACT, GMAT, LSAT, other tests Will count against their entitlement Documentation of payment of test fees is submitted directly to VA

14 Be aware of potential for Flood Duty this spring Many have returned from areas of conflict Bring a different perspective to campus Face unique obstacles Possess leadership skills Have access to additional resources to help pay educational expenses Add exceptional experiences to campus Are a fantastic interesting diverse group of students!

15 Students can only be certified for courses needed for graduation Repeats are only allowed if a better grade is needed for graduation Watch for equivalent transfer courses Dropping a course is usually going to result in an overpayment, especially for Post 9/11 GI Bill students Good to visit with VA & CO about potential affects (1-888-GI BILL-1
