4 Post 9-11 or Chapter 33

5 Post 911 AKA Chapter 33 To be eligible to receive chapter 33 you must have served at least 90 continuous days on active duty after (See DD214) Or you are eligible to receive 100% of your benefits if you have served at least 30 continuous days on active duty and discharged due to a service-connected disability

10 Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH) To Receive your Full BAH you: Must be enrolled Full time (12 credits fall/spring and/or 4 credits for summer) AND Must be enrolled in a classroom class (blended classes must meet a minimum 45 classroom hours).

11 Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH) To receive partial BAH If student enrolls three quarter-time or less And/Or All classes are taken on-line

12 Book & Supplies Stipend Up to $1,000 per academic year $41.67 per credit hour Up to 24 credit hours in a single academic year Lump sum payment (each quarter, semester or term attended) paid directly to the individual Prorated based on the percentage of the maximum benefit payable Active duty members will be eligible for this stipend effective October 1, 2011

13 Post 9-11 Chapter 33 Pays the instate Rate only $18, cap per academic year

14 Post 9-11 Tuition & Fee Payment Must have Certificate of Eligibility (COE) on file for the following: If you are eligible for 100% of tuition & fees to be paid by the VA out of pocket expenses are not required If you are eligible for a percentage of your tuition & fees to be paid by the VA you must pay your balance by the school s deadline date If you do not have a Certificate of Eligibility (COE) on file, you are responsible for payment of all tuition & fees by the deadline date

15 Third Party Pay The amount of tuition & fees certified to VA by the school must be reduced by the amount of any other payments made to the school for the sole purpose of paying for tuition and fees (except for Title IV funds). Examples include, but are not limited to: ROTC Scholarship payments (designated for tuition and fees) Tuition Assistance from the Reserves & National Guard Purple Heart MYCAA Government Employee Training Act Health Professional Scholarship Programs An employer scholarship paid to the school specifically for tuition and fees.

17 Chapter 30 MGI BILL Pay in to the system $100 a month for 12 months Time limit 36 months of eligibility and 10 years from date of discharge to use it before it expires.

22 VRAP The Veterans Retraining Assistant Program Be between years of age Unemployed Have an other than dishonorable discharge No VA education eligibility (gibill, 9-11, VA Vocational Rehab, ect.) No VA compensation due to unemployment Not enrolled in federal or state job training program.

23 VRAP Approved School Program must lead to an AA degree, non-college degree or certificate. Approved high demand occupation

30 Chapter 31 Vocational Rehabilitation (VA/VR)

31 Chapter 31 qualifications Veteran received a service connected disability which entitles him or her to VA disability compensation and is in need of vocational rehabilitation because his or her disability creates an employment handicap.

32 Getting Started The VA Vocational Rehab office will notify IRSC veteran office once the veteran has been approved to receive this benefit for attendance at IRSC. VA Vocational Rehab counselor will submit a VA form once veterans is approved to pay for student s tuition, books and supplies.

33 Getting Started Once VA form is received and processed, veterans are allowed to pick up all required books and $40 in supplies from IRSC bookstore. All other supplies requires VA/VR counselor approval.

34 Chapter 1607 REAP

42 Chapter 1606 Reservist Eligibility Requirements Enlist, re-enlists or extends an enlistment in the Selected Reserve for a period of not less than six years or after July 1, 1985

50 All Chapters

51 All Chapters Class schedules must be paid by the deadline date published in the school catalog. Veterans or Eligible Dependents may receive one (1) fee deferment per academic year. The student must formally request the tuition deferment through the IRSC VA Office.

52 Before Certification Veterans, eligible dependents and survivors admissions must be complete in order to receive their Veterans Education Benefits. The admissions requirement for IRSC are: Application for Admission to the College Official high school transcripts or GED scores Official transcripts from all previously attended colleges

53 All chapters Students are certified for classes needed for major only. Remedial classes such as prep English, reading are considered required classes. Exception If you are in your last term and need less than fulltime enrollment for graduation, you are allowed to take classes outside of your major as long as you submit a copy of your graduation application to the IRSC VA office.

54 All Chapters Must submit registration to the IRSC VA office each term located in financial aid. ( rjeffers@irsc.edu) Must maintain 2.0 GPA Contact IRSC s VA office of all changes in schedule Withdrawals results in over-payment with VA

55 All Chapters Non-credit hour classes can not be taken online (all clock hour classes) Prep classes must be taken in the classroom and not on-line. Apply for Financial Aid

56 Miscellaneous Payments Licensing and Certification Tests & National Exams Used for Admission to an Colleges/Universites Effective August 1, 2011, eligible individuals may be reimbursed for more than one licensing or certification test & may be reimbursed for national exams such as SAT, ACT, GMAT, LSAT, etc. Test must be approved for VA benefits Test must be taken on or after August 1, 2009 (for national exams on or after August 1, 2011) Reimbursement may not exceed $2,000 NOTE: Payment issued directly to the student in a lump sum
