2 Key Messages What: The Michigan Automated Prescription System (MAPS) is the prescription monitoring program for the State of Michigan. Prescription monitoring programs (PMP) are used to identify and prevent drug diversion at the prescriber, pharmacy and patient levels by collecting Schedule 2-5 controlled substances prescriptions dispensed by pharmacies and practitioners. How: Online registration to MAPS is required to request patient and practitioner controlled substance history reports. The supplied documents outline the process for online registration. When: Consider accessing MAPS when: Patients are in possession of controlled substances and lack documentation. Patients are selling, sharing or borrowing controlled substances. Forged prescriptions appear. Altered prescriptions. Quantity, refills, add. Practitioner issues (physician/pharmacy) based on DEA registration. Red flags.
