2 Innovation If you always do what you ve always done, you will always get what you ve always gotten. Anonymous Innovation is a key ingredient of why Brock is a charismatic leader in the financial services industry. His ability to see a solution to an existing challenge created a unique marketing niche for his business. In 2002, Brock founded The College Funding Coach with the goal of teaching parents how to pay for their children s college education without sacrificing their retirement savings. Brock teaches a refreshing and somewhat unconventional approach to college funding through adult educational classes and directly with many public and private schools. Thousands of parents have taken his classes, many becoming clients, using Brock s strategies to save a significant amount of money while making higher education a reality for their children. This innovative approach creates opportunities for many advisors in his organization to thrive professionally. More importantly, it changed the paradigm for many parents to provide a better path for their children, while not having to sacrifice their personal goals. 3 Dedication The price of success is hard work, dedication to the job at hand, and the determination that whether we win or lose, we have applied the best of ourselves. Vince Lombardi Brock has dedicated himself to the financial services industry and NAIFA. He believes in the mission and is committed to fulfilling it by rolling up his sleeves to achieve success for all. Brock recalls, When I first began my career, I remember the drudgery of making 200 or 250 cold calls every day. After four months, Paul Friedman invited me to a NAIFA luncheon. As a young bachelor, the idea of a free lunch was very attractive. Little did I know the impact that 'free lunch' would have on my life and my career." In fact, it was the professional friendships and relationships Brock had in NAIFA that kept him in this career during those early years. From recruiting dozens of members, speaking at numerous local and state meetings, contributing significantly to IFAPAC, regularly participating in Day on the Hill events, and working closely with many of NAIFA s past presidents, board members and staff, Brock s has had great impact in the organization in a relatively short time. A leader knows the needs of its members by working side-by-side with them, having the willingness to take on challenges, and the determination to apply his best efforts for the organization s success. 4 Passion There is no passion to be found playing small in settling for a life that is less than the one you are capable of living. Nelson Mandela Every day is a great day. Nothing great is ever achieved without enthusiasm. Goal-oriented people find ways. Don t waste a heartbeat. Extra effort is the key to success. Brock Jolly has a burning passion for the insurance and financial planning industry. He exudes a love of life in all that he does. His enthusiasm is contagious, and, at only 36 years old, he hopes to be the face of the financial planning industry for many years to come. As a high school long-distance runner in Indiana, one hundred mile weeks were common. Looking back on it, Brock confirms this taught him discipline, focus, and an unparalleled work ethic. He realized these impactful lessons were not just about running a five kilometer race, but more importantly, they were about pursuing one s goals, realizing dreams, and overcoming the everyday challenges in the real world. As a result of this mindset, Brock prioritizes and organizes his life to get more done in 24 hours than most people complete in a week. PROGRAMMING Adding value for our members keeps them engaged and able to provide life-changing solutions for their clients. ADVOCACY This is how we differentiate ourselves and is the reason every agent and advisor must consider NAIFA as the foundation of his or her practice. RELEVANCE NAIFA must be relevant at all levels to our members, to our lawmakers, and to our clients. What s at stake? Today, more than 75 million American families rely on our products and services as the foundation of their financial plans. From life and disability income insurance to annuities, long-term care insurance, and retirement planning strategies for most families and small businesses, these vehicles are a critical component for their long-term financial success. Whether protecting, saving or growing wealth, it is these products (and promises) that NAIFA protects each day. Our industry is at risk. As our elected officials seek out sources for potential revenue, financial services products are continuously in the cross-hairs of this reform. That s why NAIFA membership is so vital to our career success. Brock has researched these topics extensively, and is prepared to have an open discussion to represent the issues to our legislators and other concerned members of our communities. 7 Brock s priorities continued... Finally, Brock believes it is vital to increase our membership. This is easier said than done. In 1995, our association had 143,000 members and 900 local associations. Today, we have 50,000 members and 650 local associations. As a result, our state and local leadership tends to get recycled, and the same ideas are used over and over. Our audience loses focus, as other membership organizations may be more specific to an advisor s practice. NAIFA must remain the foundational and essential organization of any insurance agent or financial advisor s practice. We must become a modern association and embrace technology, our changing industry, and a fragmented political environment, while still holding on to our traditions that have developed during our rich 125 year history. Brock is a leader who can help guide us toward this goal.
