It helps you to undertand some basics about Ebenezer Bible College (EBC), its history, ethos, beliefs and programmes. As you read, we trust that it will lead to a resolution to equip yourself to serve God in accordance with your call. The need for doing mission today is vital and increased than ever before. Today s theological graduates live and minister in a multi-cultural, religiously pluralistic and socially diverse environment. In this situation, one needs a theological education that is biblically sound and spiritually solid. 6 WE BELIEVE We believe in the Scripture of the Old and New Testaments as verbally inspired by God, inerrant in the original writings, and of supreme and final authority in all matters of life and faith. We believe in one God, eternally existing in three equal persons, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. We believe that God the Son became incarnate in the person of Jesus Christ, who was begotten by the Holy Spirit and born of Virgin Mary, and is true God and true Man. We believe that the Lord, Jesus Christ died for our sins, according to the Scriptures as a substitutionary sacrifice; and that all who believe in Him are justified by His blood, shed for all mankind. We believe in the resurrection of the crucified body of our Lord, in His ascension in to Heaven, and in His present life for us as High Priest, Intercessor and Advocate. 6 6

7 statement of faith We believe in the pre-millennial advent of our Lord Jesus Christ in the Glory of His Father to set up in the earth a Kingdom in which He shall reign in righteousness and peace. We believe that the Holy Spirit is a person, who possesses all the distinctively divine attributes. He is God. He convicts the world of sin, righteousness and judgment. He regenerates, seals, and sets apart the believer to a holy life. The baptism in the Holy Spirit according to Acts 2:4 is given to believers who ask for it. We believe that man was created in the image of God, but he sinned and thereby incurred not only physical death but also spiritual death, which is separation from God; and that all human beings are born with sinful nature. We believe that whoever by faith apart from works of any kind, receives Lord Jesus Christ as his Saviour, is born from above and thereby becomes child of God, created in Jesus Christ unto good works. We believe that born-again believers still possess the fallen Adamic nature in this life but that God has made full provision whereby His children may be more than conquerors through Lord Jesus Christ by the power of Holy Spirit, who indwells in each one. We believe that God heals in answer to believing prayer with or without means in accordance with His sovereign discretion and will. We believe that the Church in its invisible form is universal, true body and bride of Christ, and all who are born again are members, of that invisible church. We believe that Christ has ordained the observance of water baptism and Lord s Supper till He returns. We believe in the bodily resurrection of the just and the unjust, unending blessedness of the saved and the unending punishment of the lost. 7 7

9 Founder EBC is the fruit of the great vision of Pastor Chacko Mani. Pastor Chacko, a herald of the gospel, who was born in a traditional Christian family at Kollad, near Kottayam, in Kerala State, in He accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Saviour in Pastor Chacko had his preliminary theological education in Kerala and was ordained. In 1961, he graduated from the Wake Forest Seminary in North Carolina, USA. Pastor Chacko s ministry had taken him throughout India and other parts of the globe. He made his mark as an inspiring speaker in churches, camps, seminars and conferences. He was a zealous evangelist. It was his burden for the lost souls in India that motivated him to establish EBC in His aim was to entrust the Word to faithful men. After a victorious ministry of half a century, he was promoted to glory on 26 th November

10 A Humble Beginning The Ebenezer Bible Institute was established in 1969 at Kumily in Idukki District of Kerala. It was a humble beginning. Later, God provided it with prayer partners, co-workers and students with commitment for ministry. In answer to our prayer for a spacious campus, God provided us with a beautiful campus of 14 acres having road and rail facilities at Kaduthuruthy beside the Kottayam-Ernakulam highway. In 1979, Ebenezer Bible Institute was upgraded to Ebenezer Bible College. In 2002, EBC obtained accreditation of Asia Theological Association (ATA) for Dip.Th and B.Th programmes. In 2005, EBC started its M.Div programme. In 2008 God enabled us to start M.Div in Distance mode to enable many men and women to prepare themselve for ministry inspite of their inconvenience in doing a full-time programme. EBC remains as an independent and evangelical theological institution cherishing missionary zeal and vision

11 vision & mission purpose Vision & Mission EBC is committed to equip and prepare Disciples of Christ who will display the values of true spirituality and reflect Christlike attitude of servant-leadership, pursue scholastic excellence and sharpen their skills for a Biblio-centric ministry in the contemporary world. Purpose The primary purpose of EBC is to plant, equip and build the Church, thus fulfilling the Great Commission of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ (Matt.28:18-20). To accomplish this task, EBC entrusts the Word to faithful men who are called to minister the Word to those who seek its instructions and exhortations and desire to declare His Glory among the nations. Our college curriculum, developed from the perspective of evangelical theology is Bible centered and Mission oriented. Thus EBC has its purpose with God to establish believers in the Word of God. It also intends to work with like-minded men, women, institutions, missions and churches to content for the faith which was once for all delivered unto the saints (Jude.3)

13 INFRASTRUCTURE As far as the available resources allow, we have taken into consideration the need of maintaining a congenial environment, conducive to efficient and smooth functioning of the institution. The hostel, mess hall, classrooms, chapel, library and offices are fairly well-furnished and maintained. Sports facilities are also provided in the campus for physical and mental development of students. 14-acres quiet campus and the beautiful garden maintained in the campus provide pleasant surroundings

14 Hostel EBC offers state-of-the-art hostel facilities within the college campus. We understand that most of our students are moving away from home for the first time. So we strive to make the transition as smooth as possible by offering comfortable and safe hostels, providing a homely atmosphere. Warden is appointed in hostel to supervise day to day management. All the rooms have been designed to provide adequate moving space and ample air and light. Each hosteler is provided with cot, mattress and cupboards. Store & cafeteria The Campus store stocks academic supplies for course related use and other merchandise to serve the needs of the college community. Merchandise includes textbooks, office stationary and related products. Photocopy facility is also provided in the college premise. Campus also has a cafeteria where tea, coffee, milk and edible items are supplied

15 LIBRARY EBC Library is a growing collection of academic resources for students, faculty and staff. It is highly specialized and adequately equipped for scholarly research with standard volumes on Bible, Theology, Church History, Pastoral Ministry, Missions, Religion, Languages (Hebrew and Greek) and many other subjects comprised of print, non-print and online resources. It subscribes to all major national and international journals and leading dailies. The collection has over 10,000 books and other cataloged resources including, videos, CDs, electronic resources, and DVDs. All resources are fully computerized making library activities quick and easier. In the library, there are several computers for research and word processing. It also offers Internet access for research. Ample private study space in a calm environment is also provided. Library staff continually work to support the curriculum and provide better service to the college community

16 . PERSONNEL Administrative Structure EBC is an educational and religious trust registered in the state of Kerala. The President and the Board of Directors govern the institution. 25 SPIRITUAL LIFE The academic pursuit of biblical study is strengthened by a growing spiritual life, deeply sensitive to God s will and ways. We always encourage our students not only to gain an academic comprehension of biblical truth, but also to acquire an intimate, daily walk with God, being filled, led and empowered by His spirit. Here, students will discover spiritual transformation that is so lively, compelling and inspiring that will challenge them to worship and serve God as never before

26 Chapel Service EBC Chapel services are powerful engagements with God. Regular corporate worship with fellow students, faculty and staff nurtures spiritual life of college community. A chapel hour is set apart every day which includes praise and worship, prayer, intercession and sermon by the students and faculty. Experienced and spiritually motivated Christian leaders and missionaries are invited occasionally to share the Word of God. Mission challenges, fasting prayer, whole night prayer, spiritual emphasis meetings and talent nights are also conducted to empower and motivate the students. Worship Service Worship Service is held at the College Chapel every Sunday at 9:00 am. Services are held in English and messages are translated to vernacular languages. Care Groups In order to improve spiritual and mental capabilities of students and to provide a friendly atmosphere to their studies, EBC has formed weekly care groups under the guidance of faculty. Care groups comprising 5-8 students and the relaxed environment makes such occasion cordial and memorable. It also becomes an occasion for personal counseling and guidance

27 EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES Ministry Exposure At EBC, students are learning theory of ministry along with practical training. Every year, they are required to participate in one month mission field activities in different states. The Dean of Missions coordinates all assignments to assure that the students experience a breadth of ministries which will maximize the integration of theory and practice. In addition to these, a number of other opportunities such as openair meetings, Public gatherings and music fests are offered. Our music wing named Ebenezer Echoes represents the College at youth camps, conferences and other Christian gatherings

28 Sports Sport activities in EBC create opportunities for all students to participate in the development of physical fitness, teamwork, and leadership skills. Every day, an hour is set apart for various indoor and outdoor games. Annual Sports Meet is held every year and winners are honored with certificates and gifts. Participation in Campus Development Each student plays his role in the development of the campus. As part of the campus life, every residential student has to do one hour manual work every day. Study Tour Study tour is arranged to historically significant places annually

29 ADMISSION Admission Procedures All those who wish to study at EBC should apply to the Registrar in prescribed form. Applicants will be interviewed at the College. They must be mature Christians, recommended by their pastors. Requirements Duly filled Application Form. Documents to be attached with Application Form: Copy of School/college leaving certificate and mark sheet of the qualifying examination appeared. (Original certificates should be produced at the time of registration.) Two recent passport-size photographs. Physical Fitness Certificate from a registered medical practitioner. Recommendation Letters from the pastor and a former teacher. Written Testimony of the Applicant. Letter of financial support from parents/sponsors/church/ organization

31 ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS Born-again candidates who are committed to Christian ministry with a definite call and have the following acadamic qualifications are eligible to apply. Certificate of Theology Basic Schooling. Candidates at least 20 years of age, may be admitted on the basis of a Qualifying exam. Diploma in Theology Successful completion of 10 years of schooling. Mature candidates who do not have met the required entrance qualification, but are at least 22 years of age, may be admitted into the programme on the basis of a Qualifying exam set at the 10 th standard level. Bachelor of Theology Candidates should have passed +2 or equivalent. Candidate with Dip.Th (ATA) can also apply. Matured candidates who are above 25 years with 5 years ministry experience will be admitted on the basis of an Entrance Examination. Entrance Examination Candidates should write an examination on Bible knowledge, General knowledge and General English

32 entrance requirements Master of Divinity Graduates of any discipline from a recognized University or B.Th holders (ATA/Senate of Serampore). Non-accredited B.Th holders or matured candidates, who are above 25 years with 5 years ministry experience, will be admitted on the basis of an Entrance Examination*. Entrance Examination Candidates have to write examination for following subjects: B.Th (ATA) graduates: General knowledge and General English. Graduates and non-accredited B.Th graduates: Bible knowledge, General Knowledge and General English. Matured candidates: Practical Theology, Religion, Church History, Theology, Biblical distudies, General Knowledge and General English. Master of Divinity (External) This is an advanced level external theological training programme for both men and women who are willing to be in leadership level of ministry Any bachelor degree or equivalent. For two years programme; accredited B.Th. graduates (ATA or Senate of Serampore) Minimum two years of regular church attendance with experiences of water baptism and Holy Spirit. Matured candidates ( 25 years and above ) with 5years of Christian Ministry experience Working knowledge in English. Basic knowledge of the Bible. *Mature candidates who do not have met the required entrance qualification, but are at least 30 years of age, may be admitted into the programme on the basis of a Qualifying exam set at the Bachelor degree level

33 transferred students transfer of credits Entrance Examination Candidates have to write examination for following subjects: B.Th (ATA) graduates: General knowledge and General English. Graduates and non-accredited B.Th graduates: Bible knowledge, General Knowledge and General English. Matured candidates: Practical Theology, Religion, Church History, Theology, Biblical studies, General Knowledge and General English. Transferred Students Following criteria will be observed in admitting the transferred students: Adequate educational qualification as described above. Original transcript showing satisfactory academic performance. Recommendation letters as described in the application form. Securing 50% of marks in the entrance examination. A No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the institution last studied. Final approval of the Faculty. Transfer of Credits Full credits will be transferred if the institution last attended by the student is accredited by ATA or Senate of Serampore. Only 60% of credits will be transferred from non-accredited institutions. Candidate must have a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of B- (55%). Acceptance of credits is at the discretion of EBC Faculty

First semester : June-October Second semester : October-February Grading System Grades are awarded according to the following system: Examinations and assignments will be graded in three categories: First class : A+ (80% - 100%) : A (75% - 79%) : A- (70% - 74%) Second Class : B+ (65% - 69%) : B (60% - 64%) : B- (55% - 59%) Third Class : C+ (50% - 54%) : C (45% - 49%) : C- (40% - 44%) 40% marks for internal assessment (Consisting of Major Assignment, Seminar Paper, Reading Reports, Mid-Semester exam and class participation). 60% marks for final exam. Completion of the internal assessment is a must for appearing the final examination. 44 LOCATION How to Reach? EBC is located at Ceylon Junction, Kaduthuruthy, in Kottayam District of Kerala State. You can reach the campus either by railway or by road.
