1 CLUSTER MINUTES Wednesday, August 19, :45 a.m. 12:00 p.m. Lake Worth Campus BA 308 ITEM 1. ITEM 2. Introduction of Dana Hamadeh, new Associate Dean at the Boca Raton campus. CGS 2801 Advanced Web Media Discussion: Since Adobe has introduced some new software products with the release of the Adobe Creative Cloud, it may be advisable to revise the course learning outcomes and select new textbooks for this class. This item will be presented by Dr. Elizabeth I. Horvath. Data/data source: Course Description will remain the same: Students will use a variety of advanced applications and technologies related to the production of professional, interactive web pages that include images, animation, sound, and video. This course will have students work with software for advanced web page media design. Change the pre-requisite of CGS2801 Advanced Web Media to a pre-requisite or co-requisite of CGS 1800 Introduction to Web Site Development or COP 2822 Web Site Design. Learning Outcomes: Design web pages with links, images, tables, and frames using Dreamweaver. Plan and implement custom animation with Dreamweaver. Identify the components of the Flash environment. Create animation with Flash. Create interactivity with Flash using buttons, actions, and sounds. Demonstrate the ability to create custom Flash animations. Utilize Photoshop to create basic graphics for web and mobile. Utilize Muse to design a website. Proposed new textbooks: Retail online for each book: $ Adobe Dreamweaver CC Classroom in a Book (2014 release) Copyright 2015 Edition: 1st ISBN-10: ISBN-13: Adobe Flash Professional CC Classroom in a Book (2014 release) Copyright 2015
2 Edition: 1st ISBN-10: ISBN-13: Design with Adobe Creative Cloud Classroom in a Book: Basic Projects using Photoshop, InDesign, Muse, and More Edition: 1st ISBN-10: ISBN-13: All 10 members approved this action. ITEM 3. CNT 2700 TCP/IP and Network Administration Discussion: Add CTS 1110 Operating Systems as an alternate pre-requisite to CNT 2700 TCP/IP and Network Administration to the existing pre-requisites. The new pre-requisites would be CTS 1100 Operating Systems or CTS 2334 Local Area Networks or CTS 2320 Wide Area Networks. This item will be presented by Dr. Elizabeth I. Horvath. Data/data source: Provided that the students cover the material in Chapter 15 on Configuring Authentication and Authorization and create user accounts and groups in Active Directory and use Group Policy, they should have the conceptual framework and knowledge of Active Directory administration to perform well in CNT Discussion: Uzma Amaruddin was concerned that the students would not have a sufficient foundation in Active Directory from the CTS 1110 Operating Systems class. Elizabeth I. Horvath mentioned that several students who had completed CTS 1110 Operating Systems were successful provided that the students used Windows Server and created users and groups of Active Directory and configured Group Policy. Also, in the past CTS 1110 Operating Systems was the only pre-requisite for CNT 2700 TCP/IP and Network Administration. ITEM 4. Seven approved, three disapproved Proposed New Computer Engineering Associate of Science Degree and Courses Data/data source: Professor Calabrese presented the proposed curriculum. Discussion: Professor Anthony Calabrese will present his proposal for a new Associate of Science degree program in Computer Engineering and two new courses that are required for the program: Digital Logic and Electronic Communications. He had previously sent out the required course list and the outline for the two new proposed courses. He said that the goal was originally to feed into FAUs B.S. degree, but he reckoned that it was better to have a new A.S. that would lead to a job. Professor Calabrese also mentioned that 600,000 new jobs were to be created in next few years. Professor Ali Fazelpour asked if there were labs associated with the two new courses, Professor Calabrese said that this was not specified in the frameworks for the classes. Dr. Elizabeth I. Horvath said that she thought the curriculum was too broad and it would not provide enough of a foundation in the creation of circuits. She also mentioned that there was already an AS degree under the Trade and Industry area which was entitled Engineering Technology Electronics Concentration that had many of the same classes as the proposed new degree and there were also courses in Engineering Technology on Quality Assurance, Materials and Processes, and surface mounted soldering which were not included in the proposed Computer Engineering AS degree. Professor Tommy Martin said that there was previously an A.S. degree in Electronic Engineering which was discontinued, and previously interim Vice President Ginger Pederson said that it was not
3 allowed to re-use canceled courses. Dr. Philip Ventura stated that there was never an Electronic Engineering degree offered at the college. Associate Dean David Knopp found the CIP number for the Computer Engineering Manufacturing (CIP ) under the Manufacturing area on the state s site for program frameworks. Three approved, six disapproved. ITEM 5. Propose New Linux College Credit Certificate Discussion: Professor Ali Fazelpour will present his proposal for a new Linux College Credit Certificate. Ali Fazelpour said that he did not have an opportunity to work on the new Linux CCC and that he would present the new CCC at the next cluster meeting. ITEM 6. Cloud Management College Credit Certificate Discussion: The Cloud Management College Credit Certificate was approved on January 5, Does anyone want to work on the new courses for this College Credit Certificate? CGS 1100 Microcomputer Applications COP 1000 Introduction to Programming Logic CNT 2000 Network Technologies XXX XXXX Implementation Strategies for the Cloud and Cloud Providers XXX XXXX Advanced Concepts in Virtualization and the Cloud XXX XXXX Virtualized Databases 1 XXX XXXX Security in the Cloud ITEM 7. All of the members were interested in pursuing the new Cloud/Visualization CCC and looking into moving the current Network Administrator AS degree and the associated CCCs under the Network System Technology AS degree, so that a new AS degree would not be required. They suggested that a new faculty member would be needed to teach the courses on Virtualization. Dr. Elizabeth I. Horvath said that the Cloud/Visualization CCC could be used as part of an articulation agreement with Florida Polytechnic University. Dr. Ventura said that he would be willing to develop the courses. Proposed new Oracle College Credit Certificate and Database Technology Associate of Science degree Discussion: Associate Dean David Knopp will present his proposal for a new Associate of Science degree program in Database Technology and a new Oracle College Credit Certificate. These new programs were requested by the Executive Leadership. All of the members were supportive of the new Oracle CCC and the new Database Administrator AS degree, but suggested that a new faculty member would be needed to teach the Oracle courses. Associate Dean David Knopp said that he would look to individuals in industry to develop the new courses for the Oracle CCC.
4 ITEM 8. Program Review Discussion Discussion: Associate Dean David Knopp will provide information for program review. Associate Dean David Knopp mentioned strong numbers for the Network Administration and Programming AS degrees. The Internet Services Technology AS degree had lower completion rates. Dr. Elizabeth I. Horvath suggested revising the Internet Services Technology track to include the new Oracle classes and remove some of the networking classes in order improve completion rates. All members approved. ITEM 9. CGS 1100 New Textbook for Adjunct Faculty Discussion: Professor Tommy Martin will address this item. ITEM 10. All members approved of using the Enhanced Office 2013 textbook in the spring 2016 for the adjunct faculty. CGS 1800 New Textbook Discussion: Professor Jeanne Murcia will address this item. Professor Murcia would review the new textbooks and let the cluster know the results of her review. ITEM 11. CNT 2000 New Edition Discussion: Dr. Gary Rogers mentioned that a new edition of the Mike Meyers Network+ book has been published. All members approved of using the fourth edition Network Technology textbook in the spring 2016 for the adjunct faculty. OTHER. Election of Cluster Chair Discussion: Dr. Elizabeth I. Horvath was nominated to be the cluster chair. All members approved.
