Axon Puerto Rico currently employs over 250 fully bilingual SAP professionals and is one of the most rapidly growing technology companies in Puerto Rico. Axon Puerto Rico expects to grow to more than 300 SAP consultants in the next two years based from our brand new state of the art SAP delivery center in Isabela, PR. Axon Puerto Rico offers a unique lower cost proposition for supporting implementation projects and application management service with near-shore, ITAR compliant and fully bilingual (English and Spanish) US citizen resources. 4 2 About Puerto Rico Puerto Rico is officially known as the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico. On one hand it is its own country but the commonwealth status means that Puerto Rico is just like any other state when it comes to travel or immigration. All Puerto Rico citizens are US citizens and travelling to Puerto Rico does not require passing through customs and immigration, meaning that a passport is not required to enter Puerto Rico. Still, due to Homeland Security measures, sometimes proof of US residency or citizenship is required to leave the island. The official language is Spanish but English is widely used throughout the island. The official currency is the US dollar and prices are generally comparable to the US or slightly higher. 2.1 Axon Puerto Rico Location Axon Puerto Rico is located in a small town called Isabela situated on the Northwest corner of Puerto Rico. The area is known for beautiful beaches and all sorts of water sports including surfing, scuba diving, snorkelling, fishing or just walking around and enjoying the sites and perfect weather. San Juan Isabela is a 90 minute drive from San Juan, the capital of Puerto Rico. This area is a pleasant place to live. Crime is virtually unheard of in this part of the island. 5 Additional Facts Electricity Liquor Laws Driving companies, such as Federal Express and UPS, serve Puerto Rico. Voltage is the same as US mainland: volts, 60 Hz. Legal drinking age is 18. Municipal ordinance forbids alcohol consumption on the streets in various municipalities. A valid US driver s license can be used in PR for up to three months. Use AVIS with AWD number B for the P&W preferred rate which includes all insurance so please decline everything. If you prefer other rental car agencies, use the P&W rate as the benchmark as anything higher will not get reimbursed. A weekly rental should be about $250 and a monthly rental about $800 all inclusive for a full size. You can book at either airport and renew the rental at either airport. 7 3.4 Short term lodging - Hotels There are only two recommended hotels in the area. Both offer corporate rates so please make sure to request it. Internet, cell phone service and breakfast are either limited or not available. Apartments tend to be located by the beach and are typically small. Houses are located away from the beach but are large and comfortable. Most restaurants are located on the main road (#2), by the airport (#110) or along the beach. Tips are usually not included and it s preferable to leave it separate as cash rather than add them to the credit card bill; 15% to 20% tip is customary. Visa and Mastercard are the most commonly used cards. American Express is not widely accepted. A very good meal in the area will cost in the range of $20 - $ ATM / ATH ATM machines are available but will typically charge a fee. Axon Puerto Rico has an ATM machine located in the lunch room which does not charge any fees for withdrawing money from US banks. Puerto Rico has a payment system called ATH (Pronounced Ah Teh Atcheh ). It is similar to a debit card system but no US based debit cards will work on this system. 9 3.10 Identification You must notify your visit with 24 hours in advance by registering at our web site at and following the 2 easy steps. Make sure to bring proof of citizenship (original birth certificate, passport and US Resident Card (if applicable)) and a valid picture ID issued from a government agency (drivers license, Military ID). An Axon Puerto Rico badge will be given to you typically on the day of arrival. If you are a US citizen or US Resident Card holder, this badge will allow full entry to the facilities. If you are a foreign national, because this is an ITAR facility you will require an escort at all times and your access will be restricted to certain areas.
