Of the 500 companies surveyed, 57% say they have received spam messages and 36% say they have been sent malware through websites such as Twitter, Facebook and MySpace. This is an increase of about 70% in both spam and malware reports from the previous year, leading enterprises to be more cautious about employee access to such sites. LaCie d2 Network 2 Symantec to Deliver Deduplication Everywhere to Mid-Sized Businesses with Backup Exec 2010 Press Release January 25, Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC) announced Backup Exec 2010 to help mid-sized businesses save time and money by protecting more data and utilizing less storage. Backup Exec 2010 offers fully integrated data deduplication and archiving technologies and is the first backup and recovery solution to offer granular recovery of Microsoft Exchange, SQL and Active Directory in VMware and Hyper-V environments from a single pass backup. Backup Exec also adds new support for Microsoft Windows 2008 R2, Hyper-V R2, Exchange 2010, Windows 7 and VMware vsphere 4.0. Organizations of all sizes are struggling to effectively manage information growth, particularly as they leverage virtualization technologies, creating new backup and recovery complexities, said Pat Hanavan, vice president, Symantec Information Management Group. Deduplication and archiving have primarily been enterprise-class technologies, but Backup Exec 2010 brings them to the masses to solve difficult IT challenges in an extremely simple and easy to use solution. According to industry analyst firm IDC, storage capacity is growing between percent each year, placing more data at risk and making the disaster recovery process much slower. Dell PowerEdge M910 Blade Server: Provides significant performance and reliability in a scalable, full-height, four-socket blade server. Features include new high-performance Intel Xeon 7500 Series processors, 512GB of memory capacity and FlexMem Bridge technology allowing 4GB to 512GB in either 2 or 4 socket configurations without having to rip and replace. Two-socket Dell PowerEdge Server Line: Newly refreshed including two blade servers (M710, M610), four rack servers (R710, R610, R510, R410) and three tower servers (T710, T610, T410). These new Dell PowerEdge servers include Intel Xeon 5600 series processor technology. You can expect system performance increases of up to 60% over Dell s similarly configured previous servers (with Intel Xeon 5500 processor technology) and up to 47% greater per-watt efficiency. HP Launches New Generation of ProLiant Servers Press Release March 29, HP introduced three HP ProLiant G7 server platforms that offer a significant performance boost and enhanced power savings over previous generations. Delivering a 23:1 consolidation ratio, HP ProLiant G7 servers with AMD Opteron 6100 Series processors increase operational efficiencies, paying for themselves in as little as two months. The line includes the HP ProLiant DL165 G7 and HP ProLiant DL385 G7 rack-optimized servers, as well as the HP ProLiant SL165z G7 scale-out skinless server. The new HP ProLiant DL165, DL385 and SL165z G7 platforms are expected to be available next month worldwide. Prices for HP ProLiant G7 servers start at $1,449 and vary based on specific configurations.

The economy crisis of 2009 has affected how manufacturers are stocking their supply chain. In an effort to cut costs, distribution forecasts have been on the conservative side for However, higher demand has made it difficult for manufacturers to keep up. What does this mean for you? Fortinet s New Continuous Service Policy Effective in May 2010 Fortinet will implement a new Continuous Service Policy to encourage on time renewals by removing any incentive to delay. Fortinet designed FortiCare support and FortiGuard subscriptions to be continuous. When a customer does not renew by the expiration date, then a lapse in the service period occurs which makes the customer s environment vulnerable to security related threats. Any lapses in service will now require coverage back to the contract expiration date in order to maintain continuous service coverage. The maximum back coverage is limited to six months. In other words, if the coverage has lapsed for more than six months, then out of a one-year renewal contract, six months will be used to cover the lapse in service and then the remaining service time will be used to provide continuing service. The difference between the new start date and end date will not be greater than the service period purchased. Example of renewing a contract within six months of the prior expiration date: Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates, 1981 Those parts of the system that you can hit with a hammer are called hardware; those program instructions that you can only curse at are called software.
