5 Objective Provide an overview and demonstration of a DocuSign/Alfresco integration and review the technical implementation in order to show how Alfresco workflows can be used to integrate with third party services Goals Get a basic understanding of e-signatures Demonstrate obtaining a signature via an Activiti workflow Review actual code used for this integration Answer any questions you might have about how we did this

6 What s an e-sig? First things first, e-signatures are NOT digital signatures Digital signatures are essentially certificates embedded in a document Help to ensure that a document is authentic Can help indicate tampering of content DocuSign actually uses digital signatures within signed documents Similar to having a signed document notarized E-signatures are: Visual representations of someone s signature, brand, symbol, etc. Legally binding in many countries Think about getting a package from UPS

7 A Simple Use Case Form letter residing in an Alfresco repository Need to request a signature on the document from outside party Mark the document as needing a signature Automatically notify external party of request for signature Sign document Document is updated in Alfresco Workflow closed

11 DocuSign Wrapper API Java-based wrapper to the DocuSign REST API Facilitates the process of creating and sending envelopes Envelopes have address(es) and content POJOs representing JSON entities (e.g. Address Label, Recipient, Signable document, etc.) Formal Java SDK (based on REST API) didn t exist at the time; this was needed Alfresco Custom DocuSign Wrapper Activiti Workflow DocuSign Signed Document Ingestion Web Script Alfresco Proxy (PHP)

12 Alfresco Proxy Responsible for handling incoming requests from the DocuSign signing service Called whenever an envelope is complete Writes binary content to disk; sends along to Alfresco via custom webscript Useful when Alfresco repo cannot be exposed directly over Internet Calls from DocuSign are made via SSL (although in this demo it s straight HTTP) DocuSign Custom DocuSign Wrapper Alfresco Activiti Workflow Signed Document Ingestion Web Script Alfresco Proxy (PHP)
