Q. What is a VPN and what can I use it for? A. A VPN (Virtual Private Network) is created to provide authorized external users secure access to internal private resources. Can I create a VPN using the Sun Cobalt Qube 3 appliance? A. Yes, two types of VPNs can be created. Network-to-Network VPN is designed to create secure network-to-network connections and uses IPSec. Network-to-Network VPN is available on the Sun Cobalt Qube 3 Business Edition and Professional Edition only. Q. Can I give external users access to internal services without using VPN? A. Yes. Port forwarding allows you to forward network traffic from an arbitrary network port on one network interface of your Sun Cobalt Qube 3 appliance to another computer. Port forwarding must be used very carefully as it does not provide any type of security mechanism. Q. Can I be locked out of my Sun Cobalt Qube appliance while configuring the firewall? A. No. A Firewall safeguard verifies that the Web browser used by the Administrator is still able to communicate with the appliance after the firewall settings have been applied.
