2 Mission Statement The Child Care Resource and Referral Network is committed to supporting families, child care providers, and employers in their pursuit of quality child care and family support services that are both available and affordable. To this end, the CCRRN strives to assure access to education, assistance and support for families, child care providers, employers, and other community agencies. 3 Registration and Training Policies Register early as trainings fill up prior to the workshop registration deadline Due to space constraints and presenter contracts, we may be unable to accept additional or walk-in registrations. Participants will receive confirmation via to the address on the registration form. To register for training sessions, complete the registration form and mail with payment prior to registration deadline. No phone registrations are accepted. Most of our training sessions are free. If there is a cost it will be noted. Fees are expected to accompany the registration form, if not we will not be able to register you. Complete the entire registration form. Due to the data tracking requirements, incomplete registrations will not be processed and the applicant will not be registered. Incomplete registrations will be returned. Please sign and date the bottom of the registration form. If a training is cancelled due to low enrollment or presenter conflicts, notification will made to all registered participants by phone, or mail. We consider low enrollment 6 or less. All registration fees are non-refundable. Participants must notify Child Care Resource & Referral Network within three business days of the scheduled training session if they choose to send someone in their place. Make a conscientious effort to attend the FREE training sessions for which you register. If you are registered for a free training and fail to attend or cancel your registration less than three business days in advance, a no-show will be reported on your training record. Certificates will not be given out to participants who arrive late, leave early, or are disruptive. A 15 minute grace period is given at the beginning of a training session. To receive a training certificate, participants must be present until the trainer is finished. Child Care Resource and Referral Network training sessions are for adults only unless otherwise noted. Replacement certificates must be requested by the individual who attended the training. There is a $5 certificate replacement fee. CCRRN requests that all training participants refrain from using their cell phone during training sessions. We would ask participants to come to trainings ready to engage in the learning process. Parking for evening trainings is available on the streets surrounding the CCRRN. Garage parking (Monroe St.) is permitted for evening and weekend trainings. All other training locations are subject to their own parking rules and regulations. CCRRN is not responsible for parking at such locations. If we need to cancel a training sessions due to weather conditions during the week we will cancel it by 4:00pm. Cancelation notice will be on our website, our Facebook page and WJBC 1230 AM. Saturday trainings will be canceled by 7:00am. Not only will WJBC announce the cancelation it will also be will posted on their website cancelation list. 4 Professional Development Funds Professional Development Funds are available to cover registration fees and other costs associated with attending conferences/workshops (limitations apply). Funds are not available to cover registration fees for training solely sponsored by CCRRN. Please contact Jill McNiff for more information on Professional Development Funds contact: or You can download the applications at Authorized Entity Child Care Resource and Referral Network completed the Authorized Entity process through the Gateways to Opportunity Registry this past spring. The Gateways to Opportunity Registry Authorized Entity was created for existing professional development entities to have a streamline method for getting trainings Registry approved. This approval process validates that an entity s trainer and training selection processes meet the criteria established for the Registry; therefore eliminating the need to submit each individual training and trainer for review. As a Gateways Registry Authorized Entity, Child Care Resource and Referral Network may offer any of our trainings as Registry approved training. 13 IAN Regional Professional Development Opportunity Date: March 18, 2015 Time: 7:00-9:00pm Location: YWCA of McLean County 1201 North Hershey Road Bloomington, IL Cost: $10 per person (all checks must be written to the Illinois AfterSchool Network) Training Topic: Science and Math Engagement for Youth Practitioners Science is all around us. Participants will learn fun and easy ideas along with inquiry based hands-on activities to spark youth interest in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). During the session we will discuss creative and strategic ways to engage students in science and math. This training will explore and provide front line and seasoned afterschool and out-of-school time professionals with resources and best practices for establishing exciting hands-on science and math activities that will inspire audiences of all ages. Come prepared to have fun during this interactive and educational session! Participants will leave knowing how to demonstrate and introduce science and math in their programs in a way that is accessible and fun for students. Registration Information: You must pre-register for this training. Registrations will be accepted until the capacity for the training has been reached. IAN training policy states participants arriving after the 15 minute grace period will not receive a training certificate and may be asked to leave if seating is not available. 14 Training Descriptions An Introduction to Environmental Rating Scales (ERS) Jill McNiff, Provider Services Manager Description: This four-hour training is for center based programs and provides an overview of the Environment Rating Scales (ERS). ERS are user-friendly assessment tools that measure the quality of the learning environment for infants through school-age. After completing this training, participants will be able to use the tool(s) for program selfassessment and improvement planning. Diapering and Handwashing Heidi German, BSN, RN Nurse Consultant Description: Participants will gain knowledge regarding diapering, hand washing procedures as well as cleaning, sanitizing, and disinfecting processes per the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) regulations. Instruction will be given on the importance of having a written hand washing and diapering changing policies in the child care setting. CPR/First Aid Jan Berlin and Eric Vaughn, American Red Cross Trainers Description: Come and learn how to provide First Aid and CPR to adults, children and infants. The certification is good for 2 years thru the American Heart Association. ECE Credential Level One Module 7A Child Development (Birth to 8 months) Kathy Neil and Linda Smith, ITN Trainers Description: Newborns and young babies are developing at an incredible rate, causing them to have special needs unlike older children. In this class, you will understand how children from birth to 8 months learn and grow, and how to individualize their care accordingly. Infant/Toddler Round Table Barbara Ross Lowery, Infant/Toddler Specialist Description: Infants, toddlers and two s are a fun and challenging age to work with on a daily basis. Join fellow providers as we discuss the uniqueness of this age group, answer questions and generally improve the quality of the care we offer to these children. ECE Credential Level One Module 7B (8 to 18 Months) Kathy Neil and Linda Smith, ITN Trainers Description: In this continuation of the first child development class, you will explore development among children 8 to 18 months old. You will identify how this age group differs in growth and their approach to learning, and you will discover toys, games, and songs that are helpful and just right for their development. 15 Training Descriptions Program for Infant/Toddler Care Module 1 Barbara Ross Lowery-Infant/Toddler Specialist Description: Module 1 begins with an overview of basic concepts of early social-emotional growth and socialization and their application to the group care context. An emphasis is placed on the development of a nurturing relationship between the infant and caregiver. The overview addresses the importance of responsive caregiving, the individualization of care through an understanding of infant temperament, the critical role of family and culture in early identity development and stages of emotional development. PITC is an approved ExceleRate Curriculum. ECE Credential Level One Module 7C (18 o 36 Months) Kathy Neil and Linda Smith, ITN Trainers Description: Toddlers are an energetic bunch who require plenty of stimulation and education. In this final section child development training, you will explore how children age 18 to 36 months learn language, learn to think, learn to move, and learn feelings, so you can better nurture this often curious age group. SAYD Credential Level One Module 6 Observation and Guidance Sandi Davin, ITN Trainer Description: This session will explore the differences and connections between observation and assessment in working with school-age and youth. Using the National Afterschool Association (NAA) Standards, participants will look at types and purposes of observations and assessments and will examine how their own experiences and backgrounds can affect them. SAYD Credential Level One Module 7 Building Relationships with Children and Youth Sandi Davin, ITN Trainer Description: Using the National Afterschool Association (NAA) Standards, this session will address the ins-and-outs of relationship building with children and youth. Topics will include trust building and mutual respect, and what it means to be a role model. The ideas of mentorship and creating professional boundaries will also be explored. What is CCAP? (Child Care Assistance Program) Kim Marshal, Parent Service Manager Description: Join this informative session to become more familiar with the Illinois Child Care Assistance Program s (CCAP) policy and procedures, including the application process, provider qualifications, the payment process and parent co-payments. The CCAP is funded by the IL Department of Human Services. ECE Credential Level One Module 8A Kathy Neil and Linda Smith, ITN Trainer Description: As children approach preschool age, their needs begin to change. This is the first of four classes designed to better understand children as they approach school-age. You will identify characteristics of social and emotional development and learn techniques for promoting appropriate and effective discipline for preschool children. 15

16 Creative Curriculum for Infants/Toddlers Paula Burris, ITN Trainers Description: The Creative Curriculum for Infants, Toddlers and Twos training focuses on how to develop a comprehensive, developmentally appropriate curriculum for children birth to age three. Included in the training is an overview of the assessment process designed to capture the development of children birth to age three at four points during the calendar year. ECE Credential Level One Module 8B Physical Play Kathy Neil and Linda Smith, ITN Trainers Description: As toddlers mature, their minds are not the only things growing at an incredible rate. You will understand the special areas of physical development in preschool-aged children. You also will learn about fine motor activities that will help preschoolers grow into their bodies while developing proper coordination and movement. Tackling the Tough Ones Cris Stanek, Mental Health Consultant Training Descriptions Description: Do you find it hard to connect with some children or families, especially the difficult ones? This reflective approach will teach you how to understand children s needs and behaviors. Discover how your relationship can be strengthened with all the children in your care. Expect a lot of discussion and participation. This training was formerly called Wild About Relationships. You must attend all 4 sessions to receive training hours. ECE Credential Level One Module 8C Preschool Language Development Kathy Neil and Linda Smith, ITN Trainers Description: Appropriate speech patterns and language skills are crucial to nurturing effective communications by preschoolers. In this third class on preschool development, you will explore how to use a picture and storybooks to lay the foundation for good reading and proper language use. This class comes complete with discussion on how to help children with special needs. Reducing the Risk of SIDS Heidi German BSN, RN Nurse Consultant Description: This training will define Sudden Infant Death Syndrome; it will identify factors that place an infant at risk for SIDS; and how to reduce those risk factors. It will discuss Tummy Time, safe sleep practices; and identify reasons for having a safe sleep policy. This training meets the DCFS requirement for training on SIDS, and the American Academy of Pediatrics Safe Sleep recommendations. Getting Ready for Business Administration Scale (BAS) Paula Stefan, National Louis Description: Designed for family child care providers, this session provides an overview of the Business Administration Scale (BAS). The BAS is designed to assess the quality of administrative practices of family child care businesses. After completing this training, providers will have a basic knowledge of the BAS, be able to use the tool for program improvement, and know how to prepare for the BAS assessment. 16

17 Getting Ready for Program Administrative Scales (PAS) Paula Stefan, National Louis Training Descriptions Description: Overview of Program Administration Scale. The PAS is designed to ensure the quality of leadership and management practices of center-based program. Creative Curriculum for Preschool Paula Burris, ITN Trainer Description: The revised 5th edition for the Creative Curriculum for Preschool provides early childhood preschool programs information how to develop and utilize a comprehensive, developmentally appropriate curriculum for children who are 3 to age five. Included in the training is an overview of the framework, ten Interest Areas and assessment process designed to capture the development of children in a preschool program and create an engaging learning environment. SAYD Credential Level One Module 7B Managing and Guiding Behaviors Sandi Davin, ITN Trainer Description: This session includes looking at how to help children and youth develop friendships and friendship skills. Discussion will include how to manage conflict as it plays a pivotal role in the development of relationship skills. Topics will also include bullying and harassment. National Afterschool Association (NAA) Standards on human relationships will be addressed. SAYD Credential Level One Module 8A Community Relationships Sandi Davin, ITN Trainer Description: Using the National Afterschool Association (NAA) Standards, this module will look at the differences between community and a sense of community, including ideas for creating and strengthening a sense of community. Participants will explore the ideas of the surrounding community as a resource and how to support children and youth engagement within it. ECE Credential Level On Module 8D: Preschool Cognitive Development Kathy Neil and Linda Smith, ITN Trainers Description: In this final session on preschool development, you will dive deeper into how preschoolers learn and identify tips for making learning fun. With suggestions for activities that encourage your preschoolers to explore numbers, shapes, colors, and science, this class gives all the information you need to grow and stretch the ability of children to think and understand. ECE Credential Level On Module 9 School Age Development Kathy Neil and Linda Smith, ITN Trainers Description: Completing the important section on child development, this class looks at school-age children to uncover how their learning and growth differs. With tips on how to better care for school-aged youth, this class also offers you guidance on how to set rules and limits and to get your school-aged kids to appreciate safety and respect. Trauma and Grief Cris Stanek, Mental Health Consultant Description: Every day children are experiencing things in the world that we wish they didn t have to. Come learn what you can do if a child shows up the next day and is not the same. What should you say or do? How can you help without hurting more? Audience Discretion is Advised! 18 Training Descriptions Preschool Teacher Round Table Trainers: Gena Schuler and Kathy Neil Description: Let s ExceleRate quality in our preschool classrooms? We will use the ECERS-R and regional ECERS scores to help facilitate our discussion and reflect on our classrooms. Tonight s topic will be Diversity and English as a Second Language in Families as this topic has low scores in our region. Bring your best block area idea to share. Early Childhood Development Screening Heidi German, BSN, RN Nurse Consultant Description: This training reviews child growth and development in early childhood environments. A review of several commercial screening tools is discussed to allow child care practitioners more options on monitoring a child's typical development. Case studies provide hands-on learning for the participant on use of a developmental screening tool and guidelines for referral to an early intervention program. Program for Infant/Toddler Care Module 2 Barbara Ross Lowery-Infant/Toddler Specialist Description: This module introduces special considerations in caring for infants/toddlers and six program policies that support the development of emotionally secure relationships in the group care setting. An overview of the content of Module II explores the positive impact of responsive caregiving routines, well-designed learning environment, and individualized care on the well-being and development of children from birth to three. Attention is also given to how the policies of primary care, small groups, continuity of care, individualization of care, culturally responsive care and inclusive care of children with special needs provide the foundation for high quality of infant/toddler care. Completion of all 4 modules will give points toward Infant/Toddler Credential. Positive Discipline Cris Stanek, Mental Health Consultant Description: Focusing on what the child is doing right versus what they are doing wrong is the main principle in positive discipline.
