ANGOL NYELVI MINTAVIZSGA 2012 ÍRÁSBELI FELADATOK I. READING COMPREHENSION 1. feladat. /10 p Olvassa el az alábbi szöveget, majd párosítsa össze a megszámozott definíciókat a betűvel jelölt szavakkal illetve számokkal. VOLCANOES Here are some of the most frequently asked questions about volcanoes. What are volcanoes? A volcano is a mountain or hill with an opening through which steam, gases and lava from the centre of the Earth can escape into the air. What is lava? Lava is red-hot rock which comes to the Earth s surface through the volcano. It has a temperature of about C ten times hotter than boiling water!! Lava can move as fast as 55 kph... faster than most animals can run. How many volcaoes are there in the world? There are about 850 active volcanoes in the world. About 60% are in an area called the Ring of Fire in the Pacific Ocean. The largest active volcano is Mauna Loa on the island of Hawaii. What is the difference between active and extinct volcanoes? An active volcano can erupt at any time. Extinct volcanoes are volcanoes that have stopped erupting. What happens when they erupt? A volcano erupts when there is a violent escape of gases and lava from the volcano. In 97 AD, Mount Vesuvius in Italy erupted, destroying the Roman city of Pompeii. The worst volcanic disaster in the 20th century was in Martinique, a French island in the Caribbean Sea. A volcano called Mount Pelée near the town of St Pierre erupted on the morning of May 8th Of the 30,000 people in St Pierre, just two survived. A. May 8th 1902 B. 850 C. Hawaii D. 55 kph E. 60% F. 29,998 G. Caribbean Sea H. 2 I. 1,000 C J. 97 AD K. extinct

Példa: 2. Volcanoes that have stopped erupting K. extinct 1. temperature of lava 2. volcanoes that have stopped erupting 3. number of active volcanoes in the world 4. location of Martinique 5. number of people who survived 6. date when Mount Vesuvius erupted 7. percentage of volcanoes which are in the Ring of Fire 8. number of people in St Pierre who died 9. location of Mauna Loa 10. date when Mount Pelée erupted 11. speed at which lava can move

2. feladat ----/15 p Olvassa el az alábbi szöveget és a szöveg alapján válassza ki a kérdéshez tartozó legjobb választ a három lehetőség közül.. Driving or drinking? The legal limit for driving after drinking any alcoholic drinks is 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood in Great Britain. Unfortunately, there isn t a sure way to tell how much a person can drink before he reaches this limit. It varies with each person. It depends on your weight, your sex, if you have eaten and what drinks you have had. Some people can reach this limit after only about three drinks. In fact, your driving ability can be affected by just one or two drinks. If the police officer thinks that your driving has been affected by alcohol, you can be taken to court. It takes about an hour for the body to get rid of the alcohol in one standard drink. So if you drink a lot in the evening, you might find that your driving ability is still affected the following morning or you can be over the legal limit. In addition, if you have drunk at lunch time, another one or two drinks in the early evening may put you over the legal limit. Professional drivers took part in a test. The more alcoholic drinks they had the more certain it was that they couldn t drive a test course through traffic cones. So the only way to be sure you are safe is not to drink at all! Unfortunately, alcohol is a major cause of road accidents. One in three of the drivers killed in road accidents has alcohol levels over the legal limit, and road accidents after drinking are the biggest cause of death among young people. The police officers regularly stop drivers to take a breathalyser test and, unfortunately, more than half of the drivers blood alcohol concentration is twice the legal limit. It is important to remember that driving after a drinking session doesn t affect only you! If you are involved in an accident it affects several other people as well, not least the person you might kill or injure. 1. The amount of alcohol a person can drink before he reaches the legal limit is a) approximately three standard drinks. b) 800 mg of pure alcohol. c) different for different people. 2. When can you be taken to court? a) when you have driven a car after drinking no alcohol at all. b) when the police officer thinks that you are drunk from the way you are driving. c) only when tests show that you have 80 mg alcohol in your blood.

3. After a heavy drinking session, the next day you might be a) still drunk till lunch time. b) unable to drive all day. c) over the legal limit in the morning. 4. Alcohol is a main cause of road accidents in that a) more young people die in drink-related accidents than in any other way. b) drinking can affect people s eye-sight. c) one in three drivers drinks heavily. 5. What must you never forget? a) You may be taken to court by the police. b) You put many other people at risk. c) You are putting yourself in danger. Jelölje, hogy az alábbi állítások igazak-e - True (T), hamisak - False (F), vagy nincsenek említve a szövegben Not Given (NG)? 6. Any alcoholic drink may give a result of 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 ml of blood. 7. Testing blood is a sure way of telling how much a person can drink before he/she drives. 8. The alcohol you should drink depends on your weight and sex. 9. Drinking at lunch time may mean you cannot drink in the evening if you want to drive. 10. There are drinks after which you driving ability is not affected in the following morning. 11. Professional drivers have to take part in a test every year. 12. The more professional drivers drank the less perfect was their driving test through traffic cones. 13. Alcohol can be taken as one of the most important reasons for road accidents. 14. The police officers regulary check professional drivers with blood tests. 15. You might kill or injure someone if you drive after drinking.

3. feladat --- /15 p The cable racer Robinson Diaz lives in a small cottage high in the Andes Mountains of South America. Diaz is a cable racer, and every morning he faces the difficult task of taking the local teacher to her school. To do this, he first walks for an hour up to a place the locals call Los Pinos (The Pine Trees), right at the edge of the 400-foot deep 1 gorge of the Negro valley. Here, one end of a thick metal cable has been fixed to a wooden post. The cable stretches right across the deep valley to the other side, a kilometre away. A metal hook is fixed to the cable, with leather straps hanging from it. Diaz fastens the straps around his shoulders and waist, does a quick safety check and then, without hesitating, throws himself off the edge of the mountain. Attached to the cable by only the metal hook, he rapidly picks up speed and soon he is racing through the air. Crossing the valley by wire takes him 30 seconds, instead of the two hours it would take him to walk down through the snake-infested rain forest and climb up the steep muddy slopes on the other side. As Diaz begins his trip, Diana Rios, a 23-year-old elementary teacher is waiting on the other side of the gorge for the moment when he will come racing through the 2 mist towards her at 100 mph. She will then return with him, hanging on to him as he goes back along the cable. Diana had no idea when she took the teaching job that just getting to work in the village school would be so dangerous. At first I wanted to cry, she says, 3 clutching her books as the metal cable starts to 4 rattle violently at Diaz s approach. But I soon got used to it. She still prefers to go with Diaz, though, rather than making the frightening and hazardous crossing on her own. For the inhatbitants of Los Pinos, the wire cable is a lifeline. For more than 50 years, it has served the community as a form of transport to and from the rest of the world. Everything that comes arrives via the cable- bricks and wood for building, sacks of rice and corn. Puppies are held between the knees of young men like Diaz who act as cable racers, and go flying over the gorge. Pregnant mothers, who must get to the nearest clinic, cross the wire during the darkness of the night, returning with their newborn babies. It is dangerous, but they have no choice. This time Robinson Diaz makes a perfect landing on Diana s side of the gorge. For him, the dangers of his daily journey are 5 insignificant. What I m really scared of is snakes, he says. This is nothing in comparison. Then Diana straps herself into her harness and hooks herself up to the wire behind Diaz, holding on to him tightly. He turns, 6 flashes her a smile, releases the brake and kicks away. Within seconds, teacher and cable-racer have disappeared back into the mist.
