Advanced Motivational Interviewing (Prerequisite is Motivational Interviewing) Completion of 3000 total hours of work experience in the addiction treatment field with direct clinical supervision by a CAC III, LAC or other qualified supervisor* at a minimum of two hours per month for full time work. Instructor: Robin Oakes, Registrar This workshop will introduce participants to the Certification (CAC) system in Colorado. The workshop will provide a brief overview of CAC requirements, and will assist students in understanding the application process. A packet of all CAC application info will be provided in class. You may register for the class via the Odyssey website. Addiction Counseling Skills 21 hours/3 days Dates: July 8, 9, 10 August 10, 11, 12 Sept 30, Oct. 1, 2 November 9, 10, 11 December 28, 29, 30 February 17, 18, 19, 2016 April 13, 14, 15 Tuition: $210. Early registration discount: $195 This class is non-refundable due to limited size Instructors: Donna Goldstrom LPC, LAC Mason Moore, LPC, LAC Levon Hupfer-Detor, MA, LPC This basic counseling skills class teaches a clientcentered, counselor-directed model using a motivational style. The training is designed to provide counselors with a framework for working with clients with substance use disorders. Videotaping and feedback will assist the participants in developing a standard level of counseling skills proficiency. Client Records Management Dates: July 13, 14 September 10, 11 November 16, 17 January 14, 15, 2016 March 21, 22 Instructors: Levon Hupher-Detor, MA, LAC Mason Moore, LPC, LAC This class is designed to provide the counselor with an understanding of the client clinical record. This class will include an introduction to diagnosing substance 4 abuse and dependence using the DSM IV TR. It will also include an introduction to the ASAM Patient Placement Criteria. Participants in this training will learn how to properly document for the clinical record including intake documents and interpretative summaries; the use of screening and assessment instruments; releases of information; treatment plans; progress notes; and discharge summaries. Culturally Informed Treatment Dates: June 18, 19 August 6, 7 September 21, 22 December 7, 8 February 22, 23, 2016 April 4, 5 Tuition: $160 early registration discount: $150 Instructor: Doris Kruse, CAC III, NCAC II Linda Lute, LPC, CAC III This class provides an introduction to aid the counselor in working with culturally diverse individuals, explores barriers to treatment and recovery, and presents recommended treatment approaches for special populations. Diversity factors discussed include racial and ethnic diversity, gender, language, folk beliefs, socioeconomic status, spirituality versus religiosity, sexual orientation, drugs of choice, trauma, and health-related issues. This class will provide an opportunity for to explore their own biases and outlooks. Ethics I Professional Ethics I Dates: June 22, 23 July 30, 31 September 14, 15 November 2, 3 January 4, 5, 2016 March 3, 4 April 28, 29 The Jurisprudence Exam & Study material is available for $10. It may also be downloaded from the DORA website for free Instructors: Chaya Abrams, LPC, LAC Warren Humble, LPC, CAC III This class focuses on ethical practice in counseling clients with substance use disorders and other behavioral disorders. It includes an overview of ethical decision making models, confidentiality, code of ethics and the federal confidentiality regulation 42 CFR, Part 2. The Colorado Mental Health Practice Act will be discussed to include disciplinary procedures and prohibited activities. All classes are from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily

Early registration discount: $150 Instructors: Mason Moore, LPC, LAC Warren Humble, LPC, CAC III In this training, the focus will be on the complex relationship between the client s drugs of choice, lifestyle choices, and physiological health. Discussions will include immune system health, liver function, harm reduction and specific diseases such as HIV and hepatitis. Strategies will be presented for screening to determine level of risk, referral, and education about disease prevention and treatment. Pharmacology I Dates: June 29, 30 August 3, 4 September 17, 18 November 23, 24 January 19, 20, 2016 March 17, 18 Instructor: Michael Connelly, MA, LAC This course covers basic Anatomy & Physiology of the human body as a basis for understanding addictive substance use. How drugs/chemicals affect the body and how the body responds to them will be included. The physical effects of Central Nervous System Depressants, Hallucinogens & Stimulants drugs, including legal, illegal, OTC and illicit drugs. Principles of Addiction Treatment 21 hours/3 days Dates: July 15, 16, 17 Aug. 31 Sept. 1, 2 October 26, 27, 28 December 14, 15, 16 February 1, 2, 3, 2016 March 30, April 1, 2 Tuition: $210. Early registration discount: $195 Instructors: Michael Connelly, MA, LAC Mason Moore, LPC, LAC This training presents the history and theories of addiction, the competencies required of an addiction counselor and scope of practice, and the NIDA principles of effective treatment. There will be an exploration of current evidence-based practices, addiction counselor certification and licensure in Colorado and levels of care offered for addiction treatment. 5 CAC Level II classes Clinical Assessment and Treatment Planning Prerequisite is Client Record Management CAC Level II, III 14 hours /2 days Dates: July 13, 14 September 8, 9 Nov. 30, Dec. 1, 2 February 8, 9, 2016 April 25, 26 Instructors: Chaya Abrams, LPC, LAC Michael Connelly, MA, LAC Participants in this clinical assessment and treatment planning class learn how to conduct effective and appropriate screenings and assessments using a biopsychosocial approach. This will include identifying problem domains using the ASAM Patient Placement Criteria, cultural needs, diagnostic impressions, strengths and supports among others. There will an emphasis on assessment for co-occurring disorders and practice will include creating a treatment plan for a client with a cooccurring mental health and substance use disorder. Cognitive Behavioral Treatment CAC Level II, III Dates: July 1, 2 September 3, 4 November 5, 6 February 4, 5, 2016 March 15, 16 Instructors: Warren Humble, LPC, CAC III Mason Moore, LPC, LAC CBT interventions are recognized as a best practice in the treatment of addictive behavior disorders. Participants in this two-day class will learn to apply key components of the cognitive-behavioral model including the impact of the client s belief system, on the decision to initiate abstinence, on their attitude toward recovery, attending a support system etc. Co-Occurring Disorders CAC Level II, III Dates: July 23, 24 October 8, 9 December 14, 15 March 1, 2, 2016 April 18, 19 Tuition: $160. Early Registration discount: $150 Instructor: Michael Connelly, MA, LAC James Reeves, MA, CACIII In this training, the focus will be on the differential diagnosis and treatment of substance use disorders occurring with other behavioral health disorders. This class will acquaint participants with the mental health disorders most of often seen along with a substance use disorder. Models of co-occurring disorders treatment will be presented as well as treatment planning for co-occurring disorders.

7 CAC Level II classes Ethics II - Professional Ethics II Prerequisite is Professional Ethics I CAC Level II, III Dates: July 6, 7 August 17, 18 September 28, 29 November 19, 20 January 21, 22, 2016 March 28, 29 Instructor: Warren Humble, LPC, CAC III Doris Kruse, CACIII, NCACII This class will provide participants with a comprehensive introduction to ethical and risk management issues related to addiction treatment field. It will focus on three key topics: 1) ethical dilemmas encountered by addiction professionals with the use of case studies; 2) ethical decision-making strategies; and 3) risk management concepts designed to prevent ethics complaints and ethics-related lawsuits pertaining to professionals handling of confidential information, informed consent, boundary issues and dual relationships, conflicts of interest, service delivery, supervision, consultation, referral and termination. Group Counseling Skills CAC Level II, III 21 hours/3 days Dates: June 24, 25, 26 July 29, 30, 31 September 23, 24, 25 November 16, 17, 18 January 11, 12, 13, 2016 April 6, 7, 8 Tuition: $225. Early registration discount: $210 Instructor: Michael Connelly, MA, LAC This experiential training covers the process of change as it relates to the dynamics of an effective group experience and the qualities of group facilitation. Models of group therapy, the use of observation and feedback, group relational experience, and cultural diversity within groups will be discussed and experienced in classroom group exercises. In this training, participants will learn the stages of change, the tools for creating an environment where positive change can occur, and practice of the skills. Videotaping and feedback will assist the participants in developing a standard level of counseling skills proficiency in MI. Pharmacology II Prerequisite: Pharmacology - Part I CAC Level II, III Dates: July 9, 10, 11 August 20, 21, October 22, 23 December 21, 22 February 15, 16, 2016 April 11, 12 Instructors: Michael Connelly, MA, LAC Wendy Lee, LCSW, LAC This course continues the discussion of mind-altering substances and the effect on the human body. It will build on the foundation laid in Pharmacology I and continue with a discussion of the use of stimulants, tobacco, hallucinogens, marijuana, designer drugs, steroids, and psychotropic medications. Trauma Informed Care for Diverse Population CAC Level II, III Dates: August 13, 14 October 29, 30 January 7, 8, 2016 March 10, 11 Tuition: $160 early registration discount: $150 Instructor: Beth Barta, LCSW, CACIII Doris Kruse, CACIII, NCACII The focus of this training will be an overview of what the addiction counselor needs to know to work effectively with specialized treatment populations, including women, men, adolescents, clients referred by the criminal justice system, PTSD and trauma survivors, and families. In addition topics such as recovery management, relapse prevention, creating trauma-informed treatment environments and others will be explored. Specialized techniques, coaching, consulting, teaching, and use of video or audio in supervision will be discussed. To insure your slot, register & pay your tuition early. Student Cancellation/ Refund Policy: * Student cancellations must be received 10 days prior to 1st day of class to receive a full refund. * Cancellations received less than 10 days prior to the first day of the class will be charged the following administration fee: One day class = $25 Two day class = $50 Three day class = $75 If a student fails to cancel their class, there will be no refund.
