1 Settore Ricerca Scientifica e Relazioni Internazionali Via Duomo Vercelli Tel fax [email protected] Subject: - Announcement of 3 grants for foreign students CALL FOR APPLICATIONS DEADLINE: 11 th January 2011 For the academic year 2010/2011 Università del Piemonte Orientale Amedeo Avogadro (UPO), Italy, offers 3 grants for foreign students enrolled at the Universities listed in Annex 1. According to the Cultural Co-operation Framework Agreement between the Università del Piemonte Orientale Amedeo Avogadro and these Universities, our University intends to foster and carry out the mobility of foreign students. Grants are available either for study for thesis or research activities at the Faculties or the Departments of the Università degli Studi del Piemonte Orientale Amedeo Avogadro in the fields listed in Annex 1. The study/research activities last at least three months. The total amount of each scholarship is 2.745,00 Euro gross as a partial reimbursement of subsistence costs. The student does not become a student enrolled at the Università degli Studi del Piemonte Orientale Amedeo Avogadro. At the end of the period, the student must prepare and submit a detailed report of his/her study/research activities to the Head of the Faculty/Department. Applicants should be required to meet the following criteria in order to be eligible: To have foreign (non-italian) residence; To be enrolled either on a Masters Degree course or on a Phd course at the foreign Universities listed in Annex 1. Candidates must be in possession of this requirement within the deadline date. To have an adequate knowledge of the Italian language will be evaluated positively. The application to the competition, written by filling in the relevant forms available at the website Area Internazionale Premi e Borse di Studio ( &scrolltop=0) must arrive within the 11 th of January 2011 in one original copy and must be accompanied by the following documents:

2 - copy of the Certificate of the Bachelor s Degree with the list of the examinations and marks; - copy of the certificate of enrolment at the University; - Curriculum Vitae attesting possible relevant experiences either in terms of education or working activities as well as the list of publications; - His/her Study/Research plan: o students enrolled on a Master s Degree must submit a plan concerning their thesis; o PhD students must submit a plan concerning their research activities; - one recommendation letter by a professor or an expert who has supervised the study/research activities of the candidate; - invitation letter by an Italian professor who will supervise the study/research activities at the Università del Piemonte Orientale Amedeo Avogadro ; - any other certificate that can be helpful for the evaluation of the candidate (e.g. linguistic competences, awards etc.) If the documents listed above are not written in Italian or English language, they must be accompanied by a translation (in Italian or English language). - copy of the ID card (passport or identity card), the same used to require the VISA card. The date of the postmark will not be accepted as evidence of meeting the application deadline. All the communications between the University and the candidates, concerning with this competition, will be only made by . In this way the University will use the address written by the candidates in their application form. Applicants will be selected by the International Relation Committee on the basis of the documents enclosed in the application form. The full score is 30 points. The judging committee will draw up a ranking of merit, on the basis of the evaluation of the qualifications. Just in case merits are equal, age will be a preferential element. The final ranking will be published on the web-site Area Internazionale Premi e Borse di Studio.

3 The study/research activities must be concluded by the 30th October The winners of the selection will define their stay with the Italian supervisor. For non-european Union students, the grant is subdue to the obtainment of the Italian VISA for study. Students must organize their study Visa with the Italian Consulate before coming. The documents normally required by the consular authorities are: - passport valid for at least 3 months (for some countries it must be valid for at least 6 months) longer than that of the visa applied for; - proof of possession of sufficient financial means for self-support during the stay in Italy; - confirmation of suitable accommodation in Italy; - personal health insurance. Non-EU students who wish to stay up to 3 months have to make a Declaration of Presence at the Emigration office (Questura) on their arrival. Non-EU students who wish to stay longer than 3 months will have to apply for a Permesso di Soggiorno within 8 days of their arrival. In accordance with the Italian law (decree 196/2003), the Università degli Studi del Piemonte Orientale Amedeo Avogadro undertakes to respect the privacy of all personal data provided by the candidates: all data will be only used for the purposes of the selection and the scholarship award. This data must be supplied for the purposes of evaluation of the requisites for participation, on penalty of exclusion from the selection process. The person in question benefits from all the rights granted under the above-mentioned Legislative Decree, including a right of access to the data and the right to correct, update, complete or delete erroneous or incomplete data, or data gathered under conditions that do not conform to the law, and the right to oppose the processing of their personal data for legitimate reasons.
