How vmcd Works Virtual MCD is a virtual telephony services platform that provides IP-PBX features for small to large enterprises. It offers the same MCD software deployed on the Mitel 3300 IP Communications Platform (ICP) and industry standard Sun Microsystems, HP, and IBM servers, and maintains the rich industry-leading voice communications that set Mitel apart. The virtual appliance uses open standard definitions, enabling it to be inserted into virtualized data centers along with other business applications. It can be deployed on any VMware vsphere 4 certified industry standard server. With Virtual MCD, you can access the full range of telephony features including Dynamic Extension, clustering, resiliency support, SIP service provider interconnect, and multi-node management. MCD for ISS and vmcd Release 6.0 I&M - Module 4: vmcd

Virtual Mitel Communications Director (vmcd) Introduction Mitel's Unified Communications features run as virtual appliances on VMware vsphere 4 virtualization platform. Like any other application, the Mitel software can be downloaded and installed on any data-center server that's running VMware vsphere. Virtual Mitel Communications Director (Virtual MCD), the core of the unified communications system, providing call control for the IP voice path is the first Mitel virtual solution. Virtual MCD is quickly followed by other VMware Ready, certified Mitel Virtual Solutions: Mitel NuPoint Unified Messaging (UM), Mitel Audio & Web conferencing (AWC), Mitel Teleworker, and Mitel Unified Communicator (UC) Advanced. The powerful Virtual MCD is a virtual appliance that provides call control for the IP path, as well as real-time media streaming support for audio conferencing. The technology offers Mitel s Unified Communications (UC) features as virtual application software. It can be downloaded and installed on a data center server that is running VMware vsphere 4. Instead of maintaining a separate set of hardware, processes, tools, and staff for voice communications, you can now treat voice like any other virtualized application in the data center. Voice and data can be managed in the same place. Support for 2500 active users Support of the same features currently supported on MCD-ISS MCD for ISS and vmcd Release 6.0 I&M - Module 4: vmcd 4-3

vmcd Business Solutions vmcd Small Business solution support for up to 150 active users up to 30 ACD agents 32 G.729 streams vmcd Small Business with Voic solution support as above plus Embedded voice mail for up to 150 mailboxes and 8 ports vmcd Mid-Market Resource Profile support for up to 1500 active users vmcd Enterprise Solution support for up to 2500 active users MCD for ISS and vmcd Release 6.0 I&M - Module 4: vmcd 4-4

Virtual Mitel Communications Director (vmcd ) features All call group and conference maximum capacities of the MCD for ISS apply to vmcd Maximum capacities for call groups: Hunt Groups: 2000 Extended Hunt Groups: 64 Pickup Groups: 800 Page Groups: 64 Ring Groups: Agent Skill Groups with a maximum of 2100 agents per group Group Park keys per destination DN: 250 Support for party conferences Support for 2500 active Users Support for 150 embedded Voic mailboxes vmcd nodes must communicate with the AMC at least every 60 days or fall into License Violation MCD for ISS and vmcd Release 6.0 I&M - Module 4: vmcd 4-5

vmcd Licensing The initial license includes a 12 month right to use the software and comes with the first year of software assurance included in the purchase price. Within that timeframe, the installation must be upgraded to the then current release of Mitel's vmcd software. Upon upgrade, the software right to use will be extended. Should the software not be upgraded within the 12 month window to the then current release of vmcd, the software will cease to function and telephony functions will terminate. Technically, the system will continue to work until the next reset. Once a reset occurs, it will not restart. For additional information about the Mitel Applications Management Center (AMC), refer to the AMC Web site and the AMC online Help ( MCD for ISS and vmcd Release 6.0 I&M - Module 4: vmcd 4-6

Virtual Voice Management With Mitel Virtual Solutions, you can also take advantage of the advanced functions of VMware vsphere, such as management of server availability and maintenance. For example, virtual applications don t experience the long periods of downtime for server maintenance. And management methodologies and best practices can be applied consistently across all applications in the data center saving time and money. With voice and data integration, there s no longer a need for two sets of hardware, two sets of resources, or two budgets. By reducing the overall number of physical servers in a data center, your organization experiences significant capital cost savings. As well, server consolidation can save operational costs fewer servers means more efficient integration of IT processes. Just as important, less energy is required for powering up and cooling down. Simplified disaster recovery planning is another advantage. Business applications and data can be encapsulated into virtual machines that are easily transmitted off-site, and just as easily recovered, if disaster strikes. And a single business continuity and disaster recovery plan is all that s required for everything in the data center. MCD for ISS and vmcd Release 6.0 I&M - Module 4: vmcd 4-7

vmcd Technical Specifications Virtual MCD is delivered as a software image in a standard Open Virtualization Format (OVF) for installation into a VMware-enabled virtual environment. 55 Configuration Information MCD for ISS is supported on RHEL version 5.4 running on Stratus server platforms. Stratus 2600 and 4500 servers The Stratus ftserver for RHEL (Red Hat Enterprise Linux) is a fully redundant platform. The Stratus solution is not a pair of servers in a cluster; it is two physical servers with identical CPUs, RAM, disk, and I/O options joined through the backplane, with all communication controlled by custom drivers. This enables the two servers to appear as one to the network and the operating system. MCD for ISS on Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) on Stratus Servers Note: The MSL Qualified Hardware List is available at MCD for ISS and vmcd Release 6.0 I&M - Module 5: MCD for ISS on Stratus Servers 5-2

IP addresses A range of IP addresses are required for the implementation. Effectively, you need one address for RHEL and four addresses for MCD for ISS. For example, if the host RHEL server has the following network configuration: RHEL IP address: /24 Default Gateway IP address: The available remaining addresses on the subnet are to Overlay the RHEL server s /24 network with a /30 subnet containing four addresses. Assign one these addresses to the MCD for ISS blade while reserving the others for use as network and broadcast addresses. The following table illustrates this configuration: IP Address MCD for ISS on Red Hat Enterprise Description Linux (RHEL) on Stratus Servers Broadcast address Default Gateway router) address RHEL server IP address Spare Network address MCD for ISS blade System IP address Reserved Broadcast address MCD for ISS and vmcd Release 6.0 I&M - Module 5: MCD for ISS on Stratus Servers 5-3
