2 INTRODUCTION Hotfix 2 for Analyst 1.4 (subsequently referred to as Hotfix ) provides support for 4000 Q TRAP instruments that are at revision M or higher and for 4000 Q TRAP instruments that have been upgraded to revision M or higher. This Hotfix only applies to the 4000 Q TRAP instrument. Due to the extra care required for the installation, only a Customer Service Representative from Applied Biosystem/MDS Sciex should perform the installation. The fixes in this update will be included in the next Analyst software release. REQUIREMENTS Hotfix 2 requires that the Analyst 1.4 software and Hotfix 1 for Analyst 1.4 be installed on the computer. Hotfix 1 can be found from the Applied Biosystems/MDS Sciex web site: BEFORE INSTALLING Applied Biosystems/MDS Sciex recommends that the following steps be taken before you install the Hotfix. To help ensure a satisfactory installation of the Hotfix 1. Read the release notes. 2. Ensure that all data in the Analyst Data folder is backed up safely. Backing up data is recommended prior to any software installation. 3. Ensure that you have administrator privileges for the computer on which you want to install. 4. Ensure that the Analyst 1.4 software is not running. Steps to Restore Existing Parameter Settings when Upgrading 4000 Q TRAP Instruments to revision M This Hotfix will overwrite the factory default parameter settings file called ParamSettingsQTrap4000.psf. To restore some of the previously known good parameters, and to avoid tuning the instrument from scratch, complete the following steps: 1. Ensure your last active hardware profile is the 4000 Q TRAP instrument. 2. Make a backup of the following files: API Instrument\Parameter Settings\ParamSettingsQTrap4000.psf, and API Instrument\Parameter Settings\ParamSettingsDef.psf 3. Print Parameter settings for 4000 Q TRAP. 4. For the LIT scan Category, print the screen and note the default values for the AF3 and EXB. 5. Install Hotfix 2 for Analyst 1.4 by following the Installation Instructions section. 6. In the Analyst software, manually edit the parameter values such as AF3, EXB, etc., in the Parameter Settings Editor. December 2003 Page 2 of 6

3 INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS FOR 4000 Q TRAP TM MODELS M AND HIGHER The program name for the installer is Hotfix 2 for Analyst 1.4.exe. Firmware and Configuration Table Versions The firmware and Configuration Table for the 4000 Q TRAP instrument are: Firmware version: M3L1409 Configuration Table: B FW header string: QTrap A3 Caution: Correct firmware and configuration table files must be installed and the instrument must be calibrated and tuned properly. Ensure the Customer Service Representative has performed these activities prior to running the Analyst software. To install Hotfix 2 for the Analyst 1.4 software 1. On the computer on which you want to install Hotfix 2 for the Analyst 1.4 software, log on as the Administrator (or a user with Administrator privileges).. 2. Navigate to the CD drive or browse to the folder where you saved the Hotfix installer. 3. Double-click the Hotfix 2 for Analyst 1.4.exe. The Hotfix Installer Wizard opens. 4. Follow the instructions provided in the wizard. 5. When the installation completes, in the Control Panel under Add\Remove Programs you will have one record for the Hotfix 2 for Analyst 1.4 software. 6. Start the Analyst software, and then activate the hardware profile for the 4000 QTRAP connected to the computer. Open the Parameter Settings Editor for all scan types and select Load Factory Settings, and then click OK. This step is important in order to start with the correct default parameter options for C2. 7. Hotfix 2 for the Analyst 1.4 software is a separate program from the original Analyst 1.4 software. In the Windows Control Panel under Add/Remove programs, you will find a program entitled Hotfix 2 for Analyst 1.4. If you click Click here for support information, the following dialog box appears. You can use the one installed with the Hotfix 1 but you must not use the one on the Analyst 1.4 installation CD. KNOWN PROBLEMS AND LIMITATIONS Installing Hotfix 1 for Analyst 1.4 will overwrite Hotfix 2 files Hotfix 1 should always be installed before Hotfix 2. If Hotfix 1 is installed after Hotfix 2, some files will be lost. You will need to reinstall Hotfix 2 again. Note: The Uninstaller does not remove newly added 1.4 files. The uninstaller only removes the record from the Add/Remove Programs but it does not remove the newly added files. This is to ensure that if the Hotfix is inadvertently uninstalled and the Analyst 1.4 software is run, the 4000 Q TRAP instrument at revision M will continue to function. 6 Does the installer replace existing files? Yes. The Hotfix replaces files mentioned above in the Installation Instructions section. What do these files do? Files installed above are related to parameters settings that are compatible with the 4000 QTRAP instruments that are at revision M or higher. Does this files affect any other functions? The changes are specific to the 4000 QTRAP instrument and should not affect any general functionality. How can I tell if the Hotfix has already been installed? In the Control Panel, double-click Add/Remove Programs, click the Hotfix 2 for Analyst 1.4 software from the list, and then click Click here for support information. The following dialog box will appear. Can this Hotfix be uninstalled? Yes, but not all files are removed from the system as mentioned in the Known Problems and Limitations section. Has Hotfix 2 for the Analyst 1.4 software undergone any testing? Yes. The Hotfix has undergone formal testing through our Product Test Engineer group and meets the requirements for release.
