1 Overview Introduction (AppRM) automates array-based backup and recovery of business application databases. In the event of failure or corruption, AppRM provides the ability to restore data to the moment before an outage. Application Recovery Manager, Powered by Data Protector Software technology, delivers a stand alone solution to augment your existing backup software strategy. Application Recovery Manager provides seamless integration with HP storage hardware and management solutions. AppRM is tightly integrated with key 3 rd party backup technologies to enable reliable data recovery and when embedded in an SAP eco system, enhances the backup and recovery experience by reducing the impact of SAP application operations. In HP-UX environments, Oracle users benefit from this newly enhanced integration with SAP. AppRM can now initiate a backup through SAP BR tools which can later be transported to perform a zero-downtime (ZDB) to tape. Application Recovery Manager remains integrated with Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) to make non-disruptive point-in-time copies of Exchange and Microsoft SQL databases for recovery in minutes. Microsoft VSS provides the basis to create online point-in-time copies of open files from a file server, backup applications or from within business applications running in Windows environments. Application Recovery Manager, Powered by Data Protector technology, is easy to deploy and use, has a consistent look and feel, and has a simple, modular product and licensing structure. Allows point-in-time copies of business applications to be created while the application is still running. Recovery Storage Group (RSG) allows you to extract individual items or mailboxes directly from a VSS shadowcopy. This recovery method does not change or affect the VSS shadowcopy - it remains pristine, read-only and available for use in fast recovery. Microsoft Standardization Seamless integration with Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) technology to make data consistent zero-downtime point-in-time copies of Microsoft business application databases such as Exchange and SQL databases, as well as file systems within a Microsoft Windows environment. Local Continuous Replication & Cluster Continuous Replication Alternate restore location options AppRM automatically detects LCR and CCR (in Microsoft Exchange Server 2007) and lists both the information store writer and the replication store writer allowing you to decide which store - the active or the passive - should be backed up. In a Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 configuration, AppRM allows restores be directed to three different destinations. 1) Restore to the default location - a different store. This enables you to select the target store for each backup. 2) Restore to a non-exchange location without RSG - This allows you to manage the data store outside of Exchange Server. You easily can create an RSG when the data is restored. Finally, 3) Restore to a non-exchange location with RSG - this allows you to restore your data to a non- Exchange location and then incorporate the files into Recovery Storage Group. XP: EVA: Cell Manager Requirements On Systems Running Windows Server 2003 (32-bit, x64-bit) HP Business Copy (BC) is required for AppRM implementation XP BC: EVA BC: HP VDS/VSS Hardware Providers allow the EVA and XP arrays to communicate with the VDS/VSS framework of the Windows 2003 platform. For each parallel backup session 40 MB of RAM are required. Online backup of Oracle databases require this online backup extension. HP Application Recovery HP Application Recovery Manager Instant Recovery 1TB LTU T4399A T4399AAE Manager Instant Recovery Includes the license-to-use (LTU) to protect one terabyte (TB) of LTUs used disk space capacity for zero-downtime backup and instant recovery. Used disk space capacity is the total amount of all primary volumes on the disk array that is used for Zero Downtime Backup and Instant Recovery (eg. Primary means the original production data volumes of Oracle, Exchange or SQL Server production volumes - databases and logs). NOTE: The capacity LTUs are based on the amount of data you want copied, not on the total capacity of copies made. Thus, the total capacity of VSS shadow copies can exceed the capacity of the LTUs, whereas the total amount of protected storage cannot. The Windows 2003 file system snapshot feature VSS (Volume Shadow copy default provider) is supported without these capacitybased LTU licenses. However, backup via a hardware provider requires this license. HP Application Recovery Manager Instant Recovery 10TB LTU T4400A T4400AAE Includes the license-to-use (LTU) to protect ten terabytes (TB) of used disk space capacity for Zero-Downtime Backup and Instant Recovery. Used disk space capacity is the total amount of all primary volumes on the disk array that is used for Zero Downtime Backup and Instant Recovery (eg. Primary means the original production data volumes) of Oracle, Exchange or SQL Server production volumes - databases and logs).
