3 Goals Identify quality criteria for online teaching and designing outlined in various instruments and documents. Reflect on how the criteria may be used for designing and teaching engaging quality online courses.

8 Blackboard Exemplary Course Program Awards/Exemplary-Course-Program.aspx Began in 2000 with the goal of identifying and disseminating best practices for designing engaging online courses. Using the Exemplary Course Rubric, instructors and course designers are able to evaluate how well their own course conforms to best practices outlined in the rubric. Courses that are submitted to the program will be evaluated using the rubric by a peer group of Blackboard clients.

These benchmarks may assist policymakers as well as faculty and students, in making reasonable and informed judgments with regard to the quality of Internet-based distance education.

Students are instructed in the proper methods of effective research, including assessment of the validity of resources.
