This is obtained outside of the community college system. You must be a certified Firefighter I II (Virginia equivalent) before you can take this course for state certification. FST 135: Fire Instructor I (3 Credits) Fire Instructor I To be able to teach in Virginia, you must provide VDFP with proof of completion of sixteen (16) additional hours of training outside of the community college system. You must be a certified Firefighter I II (Virginia equivalent) before you can take this course for state certification. FST 115: Fire Prevention (3 Credits) Fire Inspector I You must be a certified Firefighter I II (Virginia equivalent) before you can take this course for state certification. EMT certification will substitute for this requirement. 3 Any 100 level math course will fulfill this requirement; however, MTH120 is not transferable math. For students who plan to transfer, MTH151 or another transferable math course is recommended. 4 This course, which must include a laboratory, may be selected from biology, chemistry, or physics. 5 Psychology sociology courses are recommended. For students who plan to transfer, the student should select social science courses that satisfy the requirements of the four-year institution they plan to attend. 6 If ENG131 was taken to satisfy the ENG112 requirement, an FST elective may be substituted.
