DR. STEVE KIRNON Program Director, Social Entrepreneurship and Change The SEC program provides our students with the knowledge and practical tools to become valuable agents of local and global change. They not only create and develop a vision, they also develop and implement successful strategies to make that vision a reality that will benefit humanity.
Why Pepperdine? Prestigious programs with class availability Nationally recognized faculty Supportive environment with small class sizes Class availability Professional development training Dedicated career services department Strong alumni network INSPIRATION for change Page 1
Master of Arts in Social Entrepreneurship and Change Social entrepreneurs lead transformation in individuals, communities, and nations by constructively confronting social and economic inequities. Designed to help facilitate work in social activism at the local or global level, this program offers students the critical skills needed to create a more just world. Whether the goal is to work in advocacy, philanthropy, nonprofit management or corporate social responsibility; to strengthen social activism; or to harness change to fulfill a variety of other societal needs, the social entrepreneurship and change master s program enhances students leadership capabilities and emphasizes building sustainable social change. As social entrepreneurs, graduate students will learn to effect positive change by generating solutions to pressing social problems, searching for root causes and creating value that transforms individuals, communities, and nations. Central to this master s program is the belief and understanding that real change begins from within both within the person and the community. It is from that foundation that students build their leadership capacity to effect change around the globe. Page 2

The SEC Program In less than two years, students articulate their approach for impactful leadership while learning management practices such as formulating strategies, implementing programs, and creating marketing campaigns. Students participate in a global exchange experience, which involves an international trip. As a final project, students produce an assessment portfolio (including a social enterprise business plan) comprising their findings, which they present to a panel of experts. Cou Program Benefits: 20-month, comprehensive program designed for professionals employed full-time Technology-blended program model, which delivers course work via 60 percent faceto-face interaction and 40 percent online instruction Nationally recognized faculty who are dedicated to student academia and professional success Global exchange experience creates a well-rounded global perspective of social, economic, and community issues Cohort model designed for strong peer support and lifelong professional relationships Page 4

Format and Locations The Master of Arts in Social Entrepreneurship and Change program is a 40-unit degree, which is designed to be completed in just 20 months over five terms. Offered in a technology-blended format, course work is integrated with 60 percent face-to-face meetings and 40 percent online segments, creating a distributed learning environment, which is ideal for the working professional. Face-to-face meetings will take place twice each term throughout the five terms (most meetings will occur over an extended three-to-four day weekend), which will be held at the West Los Angeles Graduate Campus. Graduate students are expected to participate in online sessions from a location of their choice, usually a home office. Access to a laptop computer is required for this program. Cohort Group Graduate students will begin and complete the social entrepreneurship and change program with a cohort group of professionals from diverse fields. The cohort model enables students to build personal relationships and advance their leadership while sharing ideas, experiences, and expanding their professional network. Many of our students and alumni forge valuable relationships with their colleagues that last a lifetime. Page 6
