2 Part One Question One Use the communicative method and the grammar translation method in a lesson plan to introduce the present simple to a class of adult beginners. Question Two Think of a game you could use to present and/or practice past simple to a class of teenagers in an Intermediate level. 3 Part Two Question Four The following is a part of a lesson plan which has jumbled stages. Read the plan and put it into order, use numbers to put each stage in sequence: Ls check answers on overhead projector ( 5-10 min ) Answer Key to cloze exercise : 1) alone, 2) peace, 3) safe, 4) love, 5) war, 6 ) free, 7) answer, 8) truth, 9) answer, 10) blind Ls work in 4s. Discuss (a) what emotions the person in the song feels and (b) why they believe this (5 min). Tell Ls they are going to work on a song today Give out Matching Opposites exercise to pairs of learners. Ls complete in 3 min. Tell Ls that many of these words are taken from the song. Write sentences a- c on board and ask class which sentence best summarises the song ( 5 min ): a- There is a lot of injustice in the world and something must be done. b- There are many lonely people in the world and they should be helped c- Poor people have a right to the same job as rich people. Ask whole class what words they don t understand; elicit answers from other Ls as far as possible, help with problems (5 min). Give out song with gaps: play song once or twice, depending on Ls needs. Learners fill in blanks while listening, and then check in pairs. Give Ls individual writing task, check that Ls understand, Ls begin in class and finish for homework. ٣Page
4 Question Five Mach the following stages with the statements that best describes them: Presentation practice production Authentic use restricted use clarifications and focus 1) : where the learners are helped towards discovering language for themselves and/ or being given the rules by the teacher. 2) : will be more teacher-led with the target structure or language being given to the learners who are relatively passive at this stage and who try to listen and understand meaning and context provided by the teacher. 3) : Use activities would include practice of form and geared more towards accuracy and / or testing. 4) : will consist of situations set up by the teacher where the learners have the opportunity to use the language in a freer way without the teacher intervening except as necessary. 5) : will traditionally consist of quite guided activities led by the teacher who will use drill and/or dialogue practice to encourage accuracy of the target language. 6) : would be for as genuine communication as possible and include activities for fluency practice. These activities will be more skills based. Question Six: Choose a picture of your own and build a 15 minute activity around that picture for a class of intermediate students. Question Seven Describe an activity that might be used to improve the learners writing skills. ٤Page
5 Part Three Question Eight Device a 45 minute lesson plan around a song of your choice to a group of teenagers Question Nine Design a 30 minute reading lesson based on a 150 word text of your choice. Mention the time allocated for every stage, the seating arrangement, the learners age and proficiency level. Question Ten Write a detailed 60 minute lesson plan to practice asking for direction for a class of elementary learners. Good Luck ٥Page
