1 Wise Men Visited Jesus 4pm: 3yr - 5/K Teacher Guide Bible Passage: Matthew 2:1-21 Main Point: We can worship Jesus! Memory Verse: Psalm 150:6 "Let everything that breathes praise the Lord! Praise the Lord!" 3:45 4:00 Check-In / Playtime. One teacher take control of sign-in: One tag will go on the child, another will go on the clipboard, and one will be used for checkout. Just place the Pick Up sticker on the clipboard to check the child out. If someone is new to the church or not in our database they can fill out a guest tag. Please make sure that you get their phone number in case we need to contact them and any special instructions for the care of their child. One teacher lead orderly free play: 4:00 4:20 Coloring Sheet / Snack / Intro Activity COLORING SHEET: Have the kids color the sheet and ask them questions about the sheet. SNACK: Animal Crackers & Water Give each child animal crackers in a cup & water in a cup with a lid. Pray over them a simple prayer. INTRO ACTIVITY: Follow the Leader Pick a child to be the leader and play follow the leader with the class. Say: In today s Bible story we are going to learn about some wise men who saw a bright star in the sky. When they saw the star, they followed the star all the way to Jesus just like we played follow-the-star! The wise men worshiped Jesus! We can worship Jesus! 4:20 5:00 Story and Craft STORY: Have the children transition to the Jesus rug for story time. Read the Bible Story provided in the teacher aid bin. Say: God needed to send Jesus to keep His promise to us! The wise men knew Jesus was born and they went to worship Him. We can worship Jesus! Craft: Christmas Card Items needed: printout of Christmas card, crayons Instructions: (1) Give each child a Christmas card and have them decorate it. (2) Help the child write the name of someone they want to invite to church inside of the card. Say: The wise men loved Jesus and worshipped him. One way we can worship Jesus is by coming to church. Use this Christmas card to invite someone to church. 6 The Gospel Project: Christmas L3 Pre-K MC Guide Wise men visited Jesus Bible Passage: Matthew 2:1-21 Main Point: We can Worship Jesus! Play Worship Video Background Have the kids all stand up and do the motions. Ask the teachers to help manage the kids but to stand to the outside walls so the kids can see. Pray a simple welcome prayer: Play Song 1: Your choice Play Song 2: Your choice Play Song 3: Your choice Have all the kids find a place on the carpet and have a seat. Lesson: (_:00) Play Lesson Video Background God made the stars to shine in the sky so we have a little bit of light at nighttime. God shone a very bright star in the sky when Jesus was born. What a story! The wise men saw a star, followed it, stopped to see an evil King but was warned about him in a dream, made it to Jesus, & worshipped Him. So much happened. God not only gave the wise men a chance to meet Jesus and worship Him but God used their gifts to help Jesus & His family to escape the King who wanted to harm Jesus. God always takes care of us! 8 Bible Lesson: Long ago, God promised to send a king to save His people from their enemies. The people waited a long time for their king, and the time had finally come! God s Son, Jesus, was born in Bethlehem. At this time, Herod was the king over the land of Judea. Was Herod the king God promised? No! Herod was a bad king. Some wise men saw a star in the sky. It was a sign that Jesus had been born, so the wise men went to find Jesus. They came to King Herod. Where is the king of the Jews? they asked. We saw a star in the east. We want to worship the new king. King Herod was very angry. A new king? Herod was king! He asked the priests and scribes, Where is this king supposed to be born? In Bethlehem, just as the prophet said, his priests and scribes replied. Herod spoke to the wise men in secret. Go find this child. When you find Him, come tell me where He is so I can worship Him as king, too. But Herod was lying. Herod didn t want to worship the new king; he wanted to kill Him! The wise men followed the star to Jesus. They went into the house where Jesus was with His mother, Mary. The wise men fell to their knees and worshiped Jesus. Then they gave Jesus gifts: gold, frankincense, and myrrh. When it was time for the wise men to go home, God warned them in a dream not to tell Herod where Jesus was. So they took a different way home. After the wise men were gone, an angel appeared to Mary s husband, Joseph, in a dream. The angel said, Take Jesus and Mary to Egypt and stay there. King Herod is looking for Jesus and wants to kill him! So in the middle of the night, Joseph got up and took Mary and Jesus to Egypt where they would be safe. A while later, after Herod had died, an angel spoke to Joseph again in a dream. Take Jesus and Mary to the land of Israel, because King Herod is dead now. Joseph did what the angel said. He got up and took Mary and Jesus to Israel. Christ Connection: The wise men came to worship Jesus as King. God promised to send a King who would be King forever. Jesus is the King who will always be King. Jesus is the true King, and He deserves all our worship.
