1 Advanced System Maintenance Listing Florida Permitted Maintenance Entities Providing Service, by Product Type run date: 7/29/ (4), Florida Statutes, provides: A person may not contract to construct, modify, alter, repair, service, abandon, or maintain any portion of an onsite sewage treatment and disposal system without being registered under part III of chapter 489. A property owner who personally performs construction, maintenance, or repairs to a system serving his or her own owner-occupied single-family residence is exempt from registration requirements for performing such construction, maintenance, or repairs on that residence, but is subject to all permitting requirements. Under these provisions, a property owner may qualify to be permitted by the department as a Maintenance Entity (ME) for an aerobic treatment unit serving their owner-occupied single-family residence. Except for registration as a septic tank contractor, the owner must comply with all provisions of 64E-6.012, Florida Administrative Code, to be approved as an ME for their system. The owner must have written approval from the manufacturer or the manufacturer s representative certif that they have received training on the service of their unit. They must possess a maintenance and operations manual. They must make application to the department for approval to be an ME and pay the $25 annual permit fee. As the ME, t owner in these cases is responsible for obtaining a biennial operating permit for the system from the department and reporting all maintenance activities to the department.
