1 What is Scirus? Scirus is the most comprehensive science-specific search engine on the Internet. This web search engine focuses only on those sites and journal databases with scientific content, highlights peer-reviewed articles, and covers over 100 million science-related pages. Why Use Scirus? Search engines are all different in the Web sites they cover, and the way they classify these Web sites. Scirus, the search engine for science, focuses only on Web pages containing scientific content. Searching more than 167 million science-related pages, Scirus helps you quickly locate scientific information on the Web: Filters out non-scientific sites. For example, if you search on Dolly, Google finds Dolly Parton, Scirus finds the cloned sheep Finds peer-reviewed articles such as PDF and PostScript files, which are often invisible to other search engines. Searches the world's largest database of scientific, technical and medical journals and Scirus goes deeper than the first two levels of a Web site, thereby revealing much more relevant information.

2 How to Access Scirus? 2 1 Go to library homepage Select Information Links from the menu on the left. Then select SCIRUS Or directly go to Scirus website Note: Please use proxy3.tu.ac.th for Scirus searching.

3 How to Search with Scirus? Keywords Basic Search Basic Search Enter your keyword(s) in the box provided and click on the Search button. This will display all results for your search term(s). To restrict your search, select the check box on the right of the screen which will give you the options to refine your search using keywords from the results. Narrow a Search To narrow your search, use the following special characters in front of your keywords: + keyword(s) - all of your search results will contain this word. - keyword(s) - none of your search results will contain this word. keyword(s) - all of your search results will contained this phrase To narrow your search using options in Advanced Searching, try: Published between Selecting file formats Selecting specific information types Selecting specific content sources Selecting specific subject areas Using Boolean operators AND & ANDNOT Broadening a Search To broaden your search in Advanced Searching, try: Tick All file formats, information types, content sources, subject areas Use Boolean Operator OR to broaden search

4 Show Results Show Results From When you are conducting a search, you can choose to see results from two different sources: journal sources and Web sources. Journal Sources When you ask to see results from journal sources, Scirus looks for information that is journal based and generally peer-reviewed. This includes: full-text articles from ScienceDirect full-text articles from BioMed Central MEDLINE citations on Pubmed You may need a subscription or online registration to access this information. If you do not wish to view results from journal sources when conducting a search, de-select the tick box next to Web sources on the Basic Search page Web Sources When you ask to see results from Web sources, Scirus looks for information drawn from Internet sites and Web pages. This includes: university Web sites society homepages scientists' homepages news pages conference information patent information e-prints/preprints company homepages product information This information is usually freely accessible to anyone via the Worldwide Web. If you do not wish to view results from Web sources when conducting a search, de-select the tick box next to Web sources on the Basic Search page.
