8 Abstract : With the rise of feminism in the 20th century, many western critics have looked at Joyce from a feminist perspective. Their discussion is largely focused on the topics such as Is Joyce a misog2 ynist or sympathizer with women? and Are Joyce s female characters representation of stereotypical male chauvinism? Because they have approached from different angles and combined different theories in their studies, their views are actually not identical. As a result, their research work has uncovered new dimensions of Joyce. Key words : Joyce feminist criticism critical perspective Author : Yuan Decheng is professor of English at the Department of English, College of Foreign Stud2 ies, Sichuan University. Her research area is Anglo - American literature and literary theory. Her re2 cent publications include : On Joyce s View on the Novelistic Discourse, A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man : A Dialogical Novel, and James Joyce : Modern Ulysses Title : Afro2American Women Literature in Wilderness Abstract : Represented by Frances Harper, African American women writers in the late 19th century are not only pioneers in women literature, but also social activists, inseminating the minds of people with changes. As the new generation of intellectuals, these women are fully aware that a series of polit2 ical, economic and social changes are happening in America. In spite of strong oppositions, they have helped to make such significant transitions from the old to the new nociety. Key words : African American women writers women writing race power of discourse Harper Author : Ji Min is professor of English at the College of Foreign Languages, Sichuan Normal Universi2 ty. Her research areas focus on American Literature and American Studies, particularly on women writ2 ers and culture. Title : Toni Morrison s Cultural Ethnical Context Abstract : Toni Morrison s cultural ethnic context is a historical one in which the western classical tra2 dition interacts with the Afro2American ethnic culture. Morrison definitely sees the writer s mission as politically involved and advocates strongly the sense of blackness in her writings. Her increasingly vo2 luminous writings have basically revealed four main elements that seem to constitute the essence of her cultural ethnic discourse : the presence of displacement and alienation, a close relationship between author and reader, an oral quality to the voice of the text, and a quality of music in her writing that is distinctively Black. Key words : Morrison blackness cultural ethnic discourse black aesthetics Author : Zhu Xinfu is associate professor of English at the School of Foreign Languages, Suzhou Uni2 versity. As a Fulbright graduate of the Fulbright Program( ), he received his MA from the Department of English and Comparative Literature, California State University( Fullerton). His major research field is contemporary American literature and comparative literature. His major publications include essays on contemporary American writers and ecocriticism. 171
