3 Better by cycle Cars, buses, trains and trams are not the only transport your colleagues can use to get to work the bike has benefits too. Cycling can take the stress out of the daily commute to the workplace, and Transport for Greater Manchester can help show you how. There is no charge for the help we offer. We ll sit down with you and discuss how we can create a scheme to make cycling to work an attractive option for your employees.

4 Cycling is a quick, healthy and convenient way to commute With congestion causing longer and more stressful journeys, choosing the bicycle can be the smarter choice. Why would you not want any of these benefits for your business and your colleagues? Better productivity Fitter employees are more alert and perform better. Lower staff turnover Employers who address workers personal needs have reduced employee turnover. Improved work/life balance Bike commuting is a real substitute for time spent in the gym, saving employee s personal time and money. Reduced parking cost Up to ten bikes can be parked in the space of one car, an important consideration where parking is at a premium. Reduced health insurance Healthy employees result in lower health insurance costs. Reduced carbon emissions Using a bike instead of a car for commuting helps enhance the quality of life for everyone.

5 Designed around your company Transport for Greater Manchester will work with you to create a tailored programme that ensures employees can cycle confidently with their bikes maintained in a safe condition for the journey to work. The programme will include: Cycle training To build cycling confidence we ll arrange training with qualified instructors; from beginners to advanced courses. Bike user groups These can help sustain interest and enthusiasm. We ll show you how to set one up and support your bike user group co-ordinator. Bike maintenance courses We ll arrange courses from basic roadside repair to maintaining a bike in tip-top condition. Events Employee events can help spread your cycling message to colleagues. Let us help you set up the right type of event that works for you. Grants Transport for Greater Manchester can provide grants and match funding towards the cost of providing cycling facilities at your premises. Loan bikes We can arrange bike loans for your staff so they can try out cycling without committing to buy outright.

6 Working in tandem We believe the best way to develop a cycle to work scheme is in partnership with you. This is a two way process and to be successful your company will need to: Nominate a person within your company who will administer the scheme and be our central contact Commit to allow employees to participate in cycle to work activity and events Provide suitable space for cycling facilities The partnership with your company will be formalised with a signed agreement.
