1 ΤΟ ΟΙΚΟΥΜΕΝΙΚΟ ΚΡΑΤΟΣ ΤΟΥ ΜΕΓΑΛΟΥ ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ
2 Η ΕΚΣΤΡΑΤΕΙΑ ΚΑΤΑ ΤΩΝ ΠΕΡΣΩΝ Η εκστρατεία κατά των Περσών μπορεί να χωριστεί σε τρεις φάσεις: η πρώτη φάση ( π.χ.) είναι η απελευθέρωση των ελληνικών πόλεων της Μικράς Ασίας, και η κατάκτηση της Φοινίκης και της Αιγύπτου η δεύτερη φάση ( π.χ.) είναι η εισβολή στη Μεσοποταμία και η τρίτη φάση ( π.χ.) είναι η εκστρατεία στην ινδική χερσόνησο.
3 Η ΠΡΩΤΗ ΦΑΣΗ ΤΗΣ ΕΚΣΤΡΑΤΕΙΑΣ Κατά τη διάρκεια της πρώτης φάσης της εκστρατείας ο Αλέξανδρος απελευθερώνει όλες τις ελληνικές πόλεις της Μικράς Ασίας. Οι Πέρσες προσπάθησαν να αντιμετώπισαν τους Έλληνες στον Γρανικό ποταμό το 334 π.χ. και στην Ισσό της Κιλικίας το 333 π.χ. χωρίς επιτυχία. Ο δρόμος για την Φοινίκη και την Αίγυπτο ήταν ανοιχτός για τον Αλέξανδρο. Οι Αιγύπτιοι τον υποδέχθηκαν ως απελευθερωτή και τον ανακήρυξαν Φαραώ. Στο δέλτα του Νείλου ιδρύει την Αλεξάνδρεια.

10 Η ΔΕΥΤΕΡΗ ΦΑΣΗ ΤΗΣ ΕΚΣΤΡΑΤΕΙΑΣ Κατά τη διάρκεια της δεύτερης φάσης της εκστρατείας ο Αλέξανδρος εισέρχεται στη Μεσοποταμία. Ο Δαρείος Γ αποφασίζει να αντιμετωπίσει τους Έλληνες στα Γαυγάμηλα το 331 π.χ. κοντά στην αρχαία Νινευή. Μετά τη νίκη του ο Αλέξανδρος κυριεύει όλες τις μεγάλες πόλεις της περσικής αυτοκρατορίας: Βαβυλώνα, Σούσα, Περσέπολη και φτάνει στα πέρατα της Βακτριανής και Σογδιανής, όπου συλλαμβάνει τους δολοφόνους τους Δαρείου.

13 Η ΤΡΙΤΗ ΦΑΣΗ ΤΗΣ ΕΚΣΤΡΑΤΕΙΑΣ Η τρίτη φάση της εκστρατείας είναι η πορεία προς τις Ινδίες με στόχο τα πέρατα του κόσμου. Στον Υδάσπη ποταμό, έναν παραπόταμο του Ινδού ποταμού, ο Αλέξανδρος νικά τον τοπικό ηγεμόνα Πώρο και προχωρά προς τον Ύφαση ποταμό, όπου το 326 π.χ. ο στρατός αντιδρά και ζητά την επιστροφή στα πάτρια εδάφη. Τότε ο Αλέξανδρος στρέφει προς νότο, περνά την έρημο της Γεδρωσίας και φτάνει στις εκβολές του Ινδού ποταμού, όπου περίμενε ο ναύαρχος Νέαρχος με τον στόλο. Ο Αλέξανδρος άφησε την τελευταία του πνοή στην Βαβυλώνα το 323 π.χ.
