To know the ord means that one will defend the cause of the poor and needy [Jer. 22:16]. The renewed covenant is possible only because the ord will forgive iniquity and not remember sin. It is the true body and blood of our ord Jesus hrist, under the bread and the wine, instituted by hrist himself for us hristians to eat and drink. In this sacrament is given to us the forgiveness of sins, and where there is forgiveness of sins there is life and salvation. We have, therefore, two principal sacraments in the church, baptism and the bread. Baptism leads us into a new life on earth; the bread guides us through death into eternal life. Finally, the blessing of this sacrament is fellowship and love, by which we are strengthened against death and all evil. Baptism is not simply water, but it is the water connected with God s Word. What benefits does baptism confer? It works forgiveness of sins, delivers from death and the devil, and gives everlasting salvation to all who believe. It is not the just the water that does it, but the Word of God, which is in and with the water, and faith which trusts this Word of God in the water. For without the Word of God the water is simply water, and

10 4 no baptism. But with the Word of God, it is a baptism. Therefore, go forth baptizing in the name of God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.
