1 V. TROUBLESHOOTING The troubleshooting guide is designed to provide a logical starting point to locate general problems that could occur with the Ricon S2000/5000 Series Wheelchair Lift. However, not all possible problems or combinations of problems are listed. For troubleshooting the lift, refer to the following table. The guide does not incorporate routine safety precautions or preliminary procedures and assumes that the vehicle battery is fully charged and the battery terminals/connectors are clean and tight. WARNING TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE DOES NOT INCORPORATE ROUTINE SAFETY PRECAUTIONS OR PRELIMINARY PROCEDURES. DURING THE RICON WARRANTY PERIOD ONLY A TRAINED, AUTHORIZED RICON SERVICE TECHNICIAN MUST PERFORM TROUBLESHOOTING. AFTER THE WARRANTY PERIOD, IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT TROUBLESHOOTING BE PERFORMED BY AN AUTHORIZED RICON Service technician. POWER INDICATOR On all lift assemblies without a 30 amp circuit breaker (no sequenced door opener option), there is a lightassembly in the hole where the circuit breaker would normally go. The light added to the S-Series pump bracket indicates when power is being supplied to the signal portion of the electrical system. The signal portion of the electrical system is the most complicated, and hardest to troubleshoot part of the lift, the light will aid in diagnosing electrical problems. When there is no interlock system installed, the light stays illuminated at all times. When interlock systems are added to the lift, the light is an indication whether or not the interlock is operating properly. The purpose of an interlock system is to interfere with the operation of the lift if an unsafe condition is present. The light is placed in the electrical system so that no matter which interlock system is used, the light will be on when the interlock allows operation of the lift and off when the interlock has disabled the lift. TABLE [4]: POWER INDICATOR TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE SYMPTOM Light is not lit, lift does not work POSSIBLE CAUSE 8 amp circuit breaker is tripped. Interlock system is not allowing power to the lift due to an unsafe condition or a faulty interlock. Light is not lit, lift works Light is lit, lift works in an unsafe condition Light is lit, lift does not work Light needs to be replaced. Interlock is not functioning. There is a problem with the electrical system, either with the power or the signal side. Both will have to be checked, but start with the power side since it is less complicated. END OF TABLE

2 TABLE [5]: TROUBLE SHOOTING GUIDE FUNCTION SYMPTOM POSSIBLE CAUSE REMEDY Deploy/ Lower Lift Lift will not descend, descends too slowly, or does not remain level while descending. Hydraulic flow valve may be obstructed Flow control valves are mismatched. Remove, clean and reinstall flow control valve. Replace Flow Control Valve: 1. With lift fully lowered, locate flow control valve UNDER hydraulic hose fitting on each cylinder. 2. Ensure flow rating of each valve is identical. A number stamped on the side of the flow control valve indicates its rating (e.g..05). Order a replacement set of valves if valves are mismatched. 3. Before removing any hydraulic components, wipe clean all parts in the area of the flow control valves to be certain no dirt falls into the lines or cylinder during the repair. 4. Remove hydraulic hose. 5. Remove flow control valve. 6. Carefully inspect flow control valve for any debris. Ensure all orifices are clear of dirt. 7. Inspect the flow control valve seat and orifice. Remove any debris. 8. Reassemble all components in reverse order. Leak(s) at deployed position. Damaged hydraulic cylinder(s) Discontinue use of lift until repairs are made by an authorized Ricon service technician. Raise/ Stow Lift Lift will not stow (fold) completely, or drifts towards deployed position once stowed. Air may be trapped in the hydraulic system. Purge the hydraulic system by operating the lift through its maximum range of travel for at least four complete cycles. (For vehicles that do not use the full travel of the lift, the maximum range of travel is accomplished by raising the vehicle on a service hoist or ramp.) Lift will not raise, or raises slowly. Hydraulic fluid may be low. Check fluid level and, if low, add only Texaco No. 15 aircraft hydraulic fluid, or equivalent U.S. Mil-Spec H5606E oil, until level reaches the "full" mark. Lift must be in the full DOWN position for this procedure. Leak(s) at stowed position. Loose/damaged hydraulic hose/line connections, damaged seals. Discontinue use of the lift until repairs are made by an authorized Ricon service technician. * All electrical repairs should be performed by qualified service personnel only. Locate the source of the problem by reference to the S-Series electrical wiring diagram that follows. Contact our Service Department for assistance, if required. END OF TABLE
