1 agnitum.com PC security products Security Suite,, Firewall Version 9 The Outpost product line including Outpost Security Suite Pro, Outpost Pro, and Outpost Firewall Pro protects against all types of malware, prevents hackers from stealing your data, keeps your web surfing safe all without slowing your PC down. What do you get with? engine Outpost s VB100-certified antivirus scanner checks your entire computer for malware. All types of malicious software, including viruses, spyware, Trojans, and worms, are on its radar. The engine effectively detects malicious code (exploits) that are hidden inside legitimate-looking PDF documents, Adobe Flash (*.swf) animations, and JavaScript elements. Additionally, Outpost informs you of potentially unwanted applications (PUA) such as third-party toolbars, dialers, and other potentially harmful add-ons. On-access and on-demand security Real-time (on-access) monitoring for viruses ensures that all file and system activity on your computer is harmless and no malicious code is operating in memory. All the files you access are checked for viruses before you open them, preventing you from unwittingly activating dormant threats. Outpost can also be configured to perform scheduled scans of specific locations on your computer at predetermined intervals. This approach lets you check your computer at off-peak times (for example, outside regular work hours), so you can tailor the protection to meet your needs. Optimized scanning Outpost SmartScan technology delivers optimized scanning performance for subsequent antivirus checks. SmartScan achieves this by skipping in future scans unchanged files that have previously been checked and assigned clean status. Any previously checked object will be excluded from subsequent scans as long as its contents have not changed and malware signatures have not been updated. protection The scanner checks attachments and any web code embedded in messages, protecting against phishing and other threats distributed via . 2 USB protection Outpost includes protection for USB/CD/DVD removable storage to prevent malware from spreading via these devices through the use of the Windows autorun vulnerability. Advanced users can configure the system to prevent autorun.inf from launching without blocking the associated programs, completely blocking access to/from the device, or blocking executable files on the device. Firewall Bidirectional system and application firewall Outpost s two-way firewall monitors inbound and outbound connections, preventing local and remote unauthorized network access. In Stealth Mode, it also conceals access ports, rendering the user s presence on the Internet invisible. The Ethernet Protection module guards network connections and prevents insider attacks by controlling the transmission of data across the network. The Attack Detection module automatically blocks known types of hacker attacks. By default, the majority of policies are applied automatically based on cloud analysis and statistics of likely attack vectors. However, advanced users can also configure specific application and system rules to fine-tune their protection. IP BlockList A valuable tool for individuals, network administrators, and concerned parents, IP Blocklist lets you block incoming/outgoing connectivity to specific URLs. The blocked entries list can be defined manually or imported as an aggregated list from Outpost community sources. Proactive Protection Anti-Leak This time-tested utility, which has always rated at or near the top by Matousec Lab in their firewall leak testing and Proactive Security Challenge, protects against advanced intrusion techniques and malware. Anti-Leak controls a variety of activity parameters, such as: Application integrity (executables and shared components) Memory integrity Web browser integrity Arbitrary installation of system and network drivers Disk and file system activity Device access Outpost prevents unknown elements or otherwise-undetectable malware from activating harmful workloads. As soon as a new type of activity is detected, the software will prompt the user to decide whether such activity should be allowed; preconfigured access policies are provided to assist in the decision-making process. Application Guard Application Guard protects essential confidential information such as: Log-ins, passwords, and cached form-fill data stored by the browser address books Chat and IM history The contents of electronic wallets and other vulner able personal information. By blocking inappropriate access to these and other vulnerable application components, Outpost prevents accidental disclosure of private information and keeps your browsing history secure. System Guard With System Guard, you can block predefined information from unauthorized access or modification, including: Registry settings Network configuration Specific files Applications that launch automatically. File and Folder Lock The folder lock works by blocking access to designated folders and files on your computer. Not only does this safeguard the privacy of the information contained in those files by denying access by other users on a shared computer, but it can also be used to lock the contents of an entire folder against tampering by malware. Self-protection Outpost does not permit anyone except the authorized user to disable its active protection. This keeps the protection working without interruption or disruption, and has proven its effectiveness by garnering a perfect score in all unauthorized termination tests conducted by Matousec. 3 Web Security Web Scanner and Active Content Block Outpost s Active Content module protects your computer against threats associated with browser exposure to malicious content. It is effective against sophisticated attacks that involve embedded scripts and commands, such as those leading to drive-еby infections, unwanted Flash animations and ad banners, unnecessary popup windows, and other undesirable intrusions. Additionally, Outpost s virus scanner checks web pages as you visit them for dangers hidden in the code. It automatically blocks known malicious objects, and prevents browsers and applications from being compromised by remote threats. URL Blacklist The URL Blacklist automatically blocks access to web sites that are known to have been implicated in malicious, fraudulent or inappropriate activity in the past. This reputation-based tool collects data on blacklisted sites from the Agnitum threat research center, which maintains a constantly updated database of millions of harmful sites. ID Block Outpost s ID Block prevents specific predefined text strings from leaving the computer. Such strings might include credit card account information, social security numbers, address, and other personal information that could facilitate identity theft. Any data specified here cannot be transmitted through channels such as web, , or chat, effectively preventing compromise and leakage. Ad Blocking Outpost monitors the traffic from major ad networks and can optionally place restrictions on ads originating from specific networks, keeping your web viewing simpler, faster, and easier to read. String Blocking String blocking enables you to compile a set of text strings which will cause any web page containing those text strings to be blocked. These stop-words can be applied either to web addresses or site contents, so care should be taken when using this control. For example, blocking the word porn in the address field will deny access to every internet domain containing this text in its address, while designating the phrase play now a stop-word for page content will result in every site containing this term being blocked. Advanced activity monitoring tools File and Registry Activity The function enables users to monitor the activity of any given program in real time. Advanced details, such as which files are accessed, what registry modifications are made, or how different programs interact with the selected application, can be obtained with a single mouse click. This simplifies event analysis for advanced users, enabling them to take appropriate action on the fly. Network Activity Monitor The monitor shows every connection a PC makes with other computers on the Internet or a local network, so users can see what s happening on their PCs at all times and close down any unauthorized connections. Connections can be grouped/ungrouped according to application, and rules can be edited right in the program interface. Log Viewer Outpost s Log Viewer shows the history of events on the computer. The viewer supports per-category listings that can be sorted and filtered according to different user-specified criteria. Additional options Cloud Power Outpost s cloud-driven ImproveNet system helps users to safely and easily create personalized security policies. The technology behind ImproveNet reduces the number of allow/block questions generated by the software s Proactive Protection and Firewall components. Outpost analysts collect and process system activity data that users have given permission for the company to collect. This data is used to update predefined sets of rules made available to all Outpost users. The system can also be used for the submission of suspicious files to Agnitum virus researchers for analysis. If any of those files are PC security products Datasheet version 9 3
4 found to be malicious, the researchers will distribute an updated detection database to all users. SmartDecision Technology SmartDecision handles non-signature-based static analysis of files and processes before they are launched to ensure they are safe to use. It does this by checking executable files for authenticity against specific criteria for file classification. SmartDecision acts as a personal security adviser by providing visual, intuitive recommendations to users along with a corresponding color-coded report in red, yellow or green. Emergency First Aid If ransomware or other sophisticated malware is denying users access to their computers and keeping Windows from functioning so they cannot install Outpost, they can create a bootable rescue CD or USB drive using Outpost s Live Disk utility. This tool will eliminate the malware and clear the way for Outpost to be installed normally. Installation on a malware infested system As noted above, some malware processes are designed to prevent the installation of security software. In such situations, users can install and run an Outpost scan for active malware using Windows Safe Mode. Once any pre-existing infections have been removed, Outpost can step in to protect the system from future threats. PC security products Datasheet version 9 4
