2 Task 1 Replacing a Carpet Jackie Jones wakes up one morning to find that her room is flooded. Her carpet, TV and sofa are ruined. She has to get a quote for the replacement cost of the carpet. Jackie measures the floor of the room and draws this diagram (not drawn to scale). 6.4 m Dining area 1.8 m 4.8m Lounge area 2.5m Jackie wants to buy some new floor coverings for the room. She thinks about 4 different options: carpet the whole room use laminate wood flooring for the whole room carpet the lounge area and use laminate wood flooring in the dining area use laminate wood flooring in the lounge area and carpet in the dining area The carpet she likes is sold in 5 metre wide rolls and can be cut to any length to the nearest whole metre. It costs 12.99m 2. The laminate wood flooring she likes is sold in packs which cover 2 m² and cost for a pack. Page 2 of 12

6 Task 3 Buying a New Sofa The furniture store offers different finance options. OPTION A: per month for 24 Months. No deposit. OPTION B: per month for 48 Months. No deposit. OPTION C: Buy Now Pay 6 Months Later - then pay 28 per month for 42 Months. You must pay an additional one-off service charge of 25 with your first payment. Jackie cannot afford to pay cash for the sofa. She can afford to pay up to 30 a month towards the sofa. Task 3: Choose the most appropriate finance option for Jackie. 8 Task 4 Delivering the Sofa A delivery man must deliver sofas to four different customers and return to the depot. He leaves the depot at 8am. He allows about 20 minutes per customer for parking and delivery. The map (not drawn to scale) shows the location of each customer and the average driving speeds for each road. 10 Task 5 Ordering TVs The manager of an electrical store is planning how many 37 inch screen TVs and 42 inch screen TVs to order for sale in June. The table shows information about how many flat screen TVs have been sold in the store in April and May. Comment on trends in both UK and the store s sales, using calculations to support your findings (6 marks) Make a decision about how many 37 and 42 inch screen TVs to order, explaining why you have made this decision. 12 Task 6 Paying for the TV Jackie decides to buy this TV. The cost of insurance against breakdown is an extra 20% in addition to the cost of any item. 399 Jackie decides to take out insurance against breakdowns. She pays a quarter of the total cash price of both the TV and the insurance as a deposit. She intends to pay the rest of the cost over 12 months. She has budgeted to pay the same amount each month. She knows she will have to pay 19.9% interest if she pays over 12 months. Task 6: She pays the deposit as a cash sum. She pays the rest of the cost over 12 months. How much more will she pay in total for the TV and insurance if she pays over 12 months rather than if she paid cash for the TV and the insurance? (10 marks) How much will she pay each month?
