11 Installing PDP Client for Microsoft Excel 1.3 This document details all of the steps involved with the installation of PDP Client for Microsoft Excel 1.3 software. The PDP Client for Microsoft Excel software does not need to be installed on the PDP server unless the software will be used from the server. The PDP Client for Microsoft Excel license must be installed on the PDP server before the PDP Client for Microsoft Excel software can be used from a client computer. System Requirements for Client Computers To run this version of PDP Client for Microsoft Excel, you must use the following operating system: Windows 2000 with service pack 1 Steps have been taken steps to ensure compatibility with the operating system patch levels specified in this document. In the future, your operating system vendor is responsible for managing compatibility and may release additional patches to your operating system. Clients are expected to work with their operating system vendor to manage the patch release process. For questions that are related to the latest certified operating system patch level which is supported by PDP Client for Microsoft Excel, contact your support representative. Prerequisite Check that PDP 5.01 or higher is installed either on the same machine where you want to load PDP Client for Microsoft Excel or on another machine that will act as the PDP server. The server can be either a Windows or a UNIX machine. Determine whether PDP Client for Microsoft Excel is to be installed on the same computer on which PDP is installed or on another machine. PDP Excel Client can be installed only on a Windows machine. Check that you have the required amount of free disk space to install the software at least 50 MB. If PDP and Excel Client are installed on the same machine, additional memory is required. If Excel Client is installed on a separate machine, a standard PC will suffice. Check that you are running Windows 2000.To check, click Start, choose Run, enter WINVER, and click OK. Check that you have installed Microsoft Excel for Office Installing Your PDP Client for Microsoft Excel License on the PDP Server PDP Client for Microsoft Excel requires a license to access PDP information on client computers. The license that accompanies the software does the following: Sets the length of time that your license is valid 1

12 Matches the number of available licenses at your site with the number of licenses stated in your agreement The PDP Client for Microsoft Excel license is loaded on the PDP server. Loading the PDP Client for Microsoft Excel license on each client computer is not necessary. Until the PDP Client for Microsoft Excel license is loaded on the PDP server, the PDP Client for Microsoft Excel software does not work on any of the client machines. The last step of the PDP installation automatically starts the License Manager. If you are installing the PDP Client for Microsoft Excel license after the PDP license has been set up, you need to manually start the License Manager to continue. You are granted a temporary license for one week. At the end of that week, you must update this temporary license to continue using the product. You can install the PDP Client for Microsoft Excel license on the PDP serer prior to running the PDP Client for Microsoft Excel software for the first time. Alternatively, you can install the license when you install PDP. Installing Your License on the PDP Server You must install the PDP Client for Microsoft Excel license on the PDP server prior to running the software for the first time. The License for PDP Client for Microsoft Excel is installed through the PDP APS Control Panel. To install your license on the PDP server 1. From the PDP APS Control Panel, choose Utilities 2. Click the Run License Manager icon. 3. In the License Manager Introduction window, click Next. 4. In the Choose Action window, click Install new product license(s), and then click Next. 5. In the License Directory Location window, click Next. 6. In the Installing Product Licenses window, choose pdp_excel and then click Next. This action installs a temporary license for PDP Client for Microsoft Excel to your current PDP license. 7. In the Install New License window, click OK. 8. Read the license information and click Exit to leave the License Manager. 9. Click Quit to confirm your exit from License Manager. With your temporary license, you can now run PDP Client for Microsoft Excel for one week. At the end of That week, you need to update your license. 13 Updating Your License on the PDP Server When you first install the PDP Client for Microsoft Excel license on your server, you are provided with a temporary license for one week. Once your license code has been applied, it cannot be used again and you need to update the license. Updating your license provides you with a new license that is valid for one week only. To acquire a permanent license, call Global Support Services. To update your license on the PDP server 1. From the PDP APS Control Panel, choose Utilities 2. Click the Run License Manager icon. 3. In the License Manager Introduction window, click Next. 4. In the Choose Action window, click Update existing product license(s), and then click Next. 5. In the License Directory Location window, click Next. 6. In the Installing Product Licenses window, choose pdp_excel and then click Next. This action installs a temporary license for PDP Client for Microsoft Excel to your current PDP license. 7. In the Install New License window, click OK. 8. Read the license information and click Exit to leave the License Manager. 9. Click Quit to confirm your exit from License Manager. With your temporary license, you can now run PDP Client for Microsoft Excel for one week. At the end of That week, you need to update your license. Important Information About Licenses The following actions disable the license on the PDP server: Replacing the hard drive Restoring the application from backups Copying the application from another system Changing the system date Moving the license from one directory to another Running a defragmentation procedure on the hard drive If your license is disabled, contact your Customer Support Representative. Installing From a CD You install the PDP Client for Microsoft Excel onto a client computer using the product CD. 3

14 To install PDP Client for Microsoft Excel from a CD 1. Log in as the administrator on the client computer. 2. Insert the CD-ROM. 3. If necessary, on the Explorer window, double-click the CD-ROM icon. 4. In the drive window, double-click setup.exe. 5. In the Introduction window, click Next. 6. In the Choose Install Folder window, click Next to install the software in the default location (C:\) or click Choose to choose another location. 7. PDP Excel Client is installed in this directory in the following folder: pdp_excel_client\vers_ In the Portmapper window, click Yes if you need to install Portmapper, or click No if Portmapper is already installed. If you click Yes, follow the online instructions for installation. Note You only need to install Portmapper if you want to connect to a UNIX host. 9. In the Install Now window, click Install. 10. In the Install Complete window, click Done. Note Prior to starting the PDP Client for Microsoft Excel, you must verify that it is possible to ping the UNIX machine from the Windows machine, using the ping command. If the hostname cannot be resolved, the PDP Client for Microsoft Excel will be unable to connect to PDP. Uninstalling PDP Client for Microsoft Excel You can remove PDP Client for Microsoft Excel from your system by running the PDP Client for Microsoft Excel uninstall program from the Add/Remove Programs on your Control Panel. Note: Make sure PDP Client for Microsoft Excel is shut down before you uninstall the program. To uninstall PDP Client for Microsoft Excel using the uninstall program From your pdp_excel_client directory, open the UninstallerData directory, and then run Uninstall_Excel_Client_install.exe 4

15 To uninstall PDP Client for Microsoft Excel using Add/Remove programs Note 1. From the Start menu, choose Settings, and then choose Control Panel. 2. In the Control Panel window, double-click Add/Remove Programs. 3. In the Add/Remove Programs Properties window, choose PDP Client for Microsoft Excel, and click Add/Remove. 4. In the InstallAnywhere Uninstaller window, click Uninstall. 5. In the Uninstall Complete window, click Exit. 6. If you have installed Portmapper to connect to a UNIX host, run the Portmapper Uninstaller from the Add/Remove Programs function in Windows. Sometimes the uninstall program is unable to delete certain files and lists the files that it was unable to delete. You should manually delete each of the specified files. 5
