7 At the homecoming dance, Trey Winkler ( 17) dances with Maddison Wasson ( 17). It was my first homecoming that I had gone to and it was a lot of fun. Assistant Principal, Mr. Shawn Seiler, won the contest by finishing his pie in 3 minutes. It was the messiest experience of my life says Seiler. 8 Approximate Solution Algebra quizzes. Crumbling erasers. Broken lead. Crowded hallways. Endless homework. The unruly parking lot, every aspect of Gering High School is organized chaos. Our experiences here will forever be ours. We ll never forget the mornings Mr. Thompson would come into the classroom screeching, Good mornng soph-o-mores! Picture the time Mr. Anderson s substitute tried to write on the whiteboard, but actually wrote on the SmartBoard with a dry erase marker. Then there are the nights that we slept for just over two hours because we had to squeeze in as much studying before our history test first period. There are also the mornings we had to be up at 2:45 a.m. to make the speech bus by 3:30 a.m., only to wait for the underclassmen who weren t fully prepared. We will never forget the shakespear books we were all encouraged to read and analyze, because even the littlest quotes somehow altered the entire storyline. The gruling nights when we had to write two essays, fill out three scholarships, and still try to get enough sleep to function the next day will always haunt us. The effort that we put into our school work while we are in high school will shape the rest of our lives. We have to somehow figure out the solution to every problem we are faced with in life and high school prepares us for that. It may seem chaotic now, but eventually it will be the way we keep our lives organized. Cole Meister ( 17) practices his welding skills in class. 9 division 37 In yearbook class, Lauren Shaul ( 16) puts the final touches on a poster. The poster was to promote a contest that gave a $30.00 Runza gift card to one of the students who submitted a picture for the #GeringSpirSelma Corona ( 17) works on her it2k15 page math assignment in Mrs. Parkers math class. Our class had to do a project where the students laid out their own story problem involving a business and solved it. It taught the real life application of math said Mrs. Parker. Alex Lupher ( 15) cuts a piece of wood in building construction. The building construction class built their house in the lots where McKinley Elementary used to stand. Harmony members practice their singing before the Old West Choir Fest. The boys had a solo part of their song Sieze the Day. It was so much fun to battle against the girls in the song. said Austin Rogers ( 15)

10 The definition of Balanced Insanity Crazy About What Others Consider to be Insane Julia Ybarra ( 15) was excited to finish her senior year with the Distance Family. It s a great feeling to be a part of a team that is so close. We go through a lot of really difficult workouts together, but on the other hand, we experience success together as well. It s just great knowing that after a race, no matter how fast or slow I ran, my distance family is always going to be standing at the finish line, waiting to wipe my tears or celebrate a PR with me, Ybarra said. For Logan VanAnne, ( 16) his team is what makes cross country so fun. The best part about being in the distance family is the great memories we make together at practice and at meets. It made us laugh when Coach Marez would joke with some of the boys because they always tried to find a way to get out of stretching before a workout. I love the funny conversations we have as a team and the support they gave me after I cut down all my times by one to two minutes compared to every meet last year, Van Anne said. Jerilyn Laws ( 16) says that they still find a way to stay together as a team with cross country being an individual sport. We re all working to continually improve our individual times, but along with that, we want to get a better overall team score. We push each other to do our best. It can get a little competitive at times, but in a good way. In the end, we run for each other and are proud of each other. Without my team, I d just be some crazy girl going on runs for fun, Laws said. Kyle Upp ( 15) used his great leadership skills to encourage and strengthen his teammates. Upp s senior leadership contributed a lot to the distance family, especially the younger runners. As a senior I felt my job was to encourage my teammates to keep going 100% during hot, tiring practices, and not to lose focus during the season. I always tried to strengthen and keep my teammates going all through the race, Upp said. Allie Baird Keenean Fogle ( 15) maintains his stride consistently while focusing on staying ahead. Finishing my senior season was disappointing because my high school career is almost over, but relieving because I got to finish at the highest level of competition in the state, Fogle said. Spectrum Photo Varsity boys Kyle Upp ( 15), Keenean Fogle ( 15), Xavier Arellano ( 18), Jacey Shaul ( 16), and Ty Romey ( 16) pace themselves in the front of the pack at the beginnning of the race. 11 cross country 91 Rick Marez Austin Rogers ( 15) focuses on the finish line during the Chadron Invite. This was Rogers s second year running cross country. I had a successful senior season! I was excited to come back after last year and be able to compete at a higher level, and I always like to spend time with my team and compete alongside with some of my best friends, Rogers said. Spectrum Photo Kali Rimington ( 15) keeps a strong pace while staying ahead of the competition. Rimington had been running cross country with the Bulldogs all four years of high school. Rimington finished fourth at the Panhandle Classic in Scottsbluff, and fifth at the Alliance Invitational. Tori Mueller Rebekah Rawlings ( 17) strides ahead during the Gering meet. This was Rawlings s second year running cross country. Rawlings was the Bulldogs top girl runner and placed first at the District Invite in Ogallala with a time of 19:00.3.
