2 The Master in Biopharmaceutical Technology of the University of Trento provides students with expertise in biotechnology research & development applied to the sanitary field, with specific reference to modern drug design, characterization and development. The program also emphasizes the development of biomolecules of medical/pharmaceutical interest, such as monoclonal antibodies, prognostic and diagnostic markers, food integrators, and vaccines. The Master program comprises a one year, 60 credits, base version, and a one and a half year, 90 credits, extended version. Lectures, laboratory courses, and experimental activity in the academia or in private companies are planned. The Master provides an excellent opportunity of specialization in the highly dynamic field of biotechnologies applied to human health and welfare. Lectures are structured in 11 courses distributed in 3 sessions (2 sessions for the base version, 1 additional session for the extended version. All successful candidates will initially register to the base version of the Master. At the end of the second exam session (July 2012), those students that will have passed all classes will be offered the possibility to register to the extended version of the Master. Lectures are: -First session: Molecular Basis of Disease, Gene and Cell Therapy, Macromolecular Biochemistry, Pharmacology 1; -Second session: Pharmaceutical Biotechnology, Animal Models of Disease, Drug Design, Pharmacology 2; -Third session: Molecular Genetics of Druggable Targets, High-Throughput Technology, Medicinal Chemistry. Lectures will be supplemented by an internship of 150 hours for the base version and of additional 300 hours for the extended version. The students will be offered the opportunity to make their internship in academic laboratories of the University of Trento and the University of Verona, as well as in pharmaceutical companies of the Trento-Verona area. Participation to the teaching activities is mandatory and is of 80% for lectures and 90% for laboratory courses. DEGREE CONFERRED Upon the successful completion of all Master activities, the University of Trento will award the Master of Professional Studies (Master Universitario di I Livello) in Biopharmaceutical Science and Technology, following the Italian normative D.M. 270/04. The Master certificate will specify the version completed and the relative number of credits. 4. ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS In order to qualify for the programme candidates have to comply with the following requirements: -A first level (Laurea triennale) Italian university degree in the following classes (in compliance with Ministerial Decree n. 270/04): L-2 (Biotecnologie); L-13 (Scienze Biologiche); L-29 (Scienze e Tecnologie Farmaceutiche); L-27 (Scienze e Tecnologie Chimiche); L-26 (Scienze e Tecnologie Alimentari); L-25 (Scienze e Tecnologie Agrarie e Forestali); L-38 (Scienze Zootecniche e Tecnologie delle Produzioni Animali); OR -A first level (Bachelor) university degree obtained abroad in Biotechnology, Biological Sciences, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemistry, Food Science, Agronomy, Animal Production, or an equivalent qualification in a related field. -Knowledge of functional English at B1 level or equivalent. In order to enrol in a post-bachelor Master of Professional Studies ("Master di I livello"), candidates must have at least a 3 or 4 year BA or a University degree enabling to access the second cycle of studies in the country where the Bachelor was achieved. Applicants holding a foreign degree NOT enabling to access the second cycle of studies in the country where the Bachelor was achieved must present their degree certificate along with exams taken and grades obtained, translated and authenticated by an Italian consulate, embassy or diplomatic representative in the country where the degree was issued, and the respective declaration of validity ( Dichiarazione di Valore in Loco ). Alternatively, applicants must present the Diploma Supplement. If not yet holding either the declaration of value or the Diploma Supplement, candidates must explicitly request recognition of equivalence of their degree in their application by including: -the English translation of the degree certificate (if in a different language) with exams passed and grades obtained; -a self-declaration regarding given academic qualification awarded by an institution located in a foreign country and belonging to an educational system different from the Italian one, following the template available at For further information see the Master s website. 4 5. TUITION FEES AND SCHOLARSHIPS Tuition fees are 2520 for the entire duration of the master, independently from the version, base or extended.
