3 The term: Massive Open Online Courses 3 Massive Open Online Course A Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) is an online course aimed at unlimited participation and open access via the web. In addition to traditional course materials such as videos, readings, and problem sets, MOOCs provide interactive user fora that help build a community for students, professors, and teaching assistants ( ). Other intentions to join a MOOC Analysis of Coursera courses show: Median of 33,000 students for each Coursera course with peaks upto 180,000 registrants a course Completion rate at about 10% Most registrars are lurkers without the intention to finish the course 45% of those who indicate their will to complete the course actually do succeed in doing so 70% of those who pay $50 for the Signature Track program complete the course Their intent is to explore, find out something about the content, and move on to something else.
