4 Protection while using the Rabbit Forcible Entry tool: Members must wear full PPE, including eye protection, while using any forcible entry tools.

5 Differences between Most CFD-issued Hurst Tools Model 355R076 TNT Tool Model HDP-FE 5.0 VS. (Example: Tower 1)

6 #1:(+) HOSE REACH: TNT increases hose reach by 4-feet (TNT 10-feet vs. Hurst 6-feet).

7 #2: (+) SPREAD: TNT Cylinder increases spread by 1 ¾ inches (TNT tool is 5 ¼-inches vs. Hurst tool is 3 ½). T N T H U R S T

8 #3: (+) SWIVEL: TNT cylinder hose has a swivel fitting which allows for 360-degree movement to keep the hose out of the way (Hurst cylinder hose does not swivel).

9 #4: (+) PUSH-STYLE SPREADER: TNT cylinder (spreader) has heavy-duty plates ( push pads ) with teeth added to both ends of the tool.

12 #7: (-) HEAVIER (Spreader): TNT cylinder (spreader) itself weighs 2 lbs. MORE (TNT cylinder is about 12 lbs. vs. Hurst cylinder is about 10 lbs.). #8: (-) EXTRA STEP: When operating TNT you must remember the extra step of pulling open the open air vent to allow air to move freely in and out of the pump reservoir.

13 #9: (-) NO CUTTING TOOL: TNT tool does not currently allow for attaching/detaching of a cutting tool (some CFD units have a Rabbit tool that includes the optional cutting tool). However, per BEARS, the CFD is scheduled to receive new TNT-brand cutters similar to the CSC-40 cutter shown here to the left, except our TNT cutters will have one hydraulic line instead of two. We are told these TNT cutters can cut through Nader bolts. We may receive these by the RNC.

14 Inspection, storage and potential hazards to avoid while using the forcible entry tools. 1. Inspection BEFORE each use: Prior to and after each use, the tools, hoses, and connections should be cleaned and inspected for damage.

15 2. Inspection AFTER each use: Blades: Check for any surface cracks or deformities. Hoses: Check for punctures, kinking, or leakage. Dead-man control valve: Check for smooth operation. Crimp fittings: Check to make sure the crimp fitting is still firmly attached to the hose assembly. Fittings, Bolts, Screws: Check all fittings, bolts, and screws to ensure they are tight. Couplers and Couples: Check for operation and cleanliness. Run Pump: Operate the pump and check for proper tool operation; also observe for leaks.

16 Storage guidelines: 1. Do not store your TNT tools under pressure. 2. Do not store your TNT tools in the fully open, or fully closed position. (Per BEARS, when seals are not under constant pressure, they will last longer.) 3. Store your tools securely; loose tools can cause serious injury or property damage. 4. Pumps should only be stored in a horizontal position.

17 Potential Hazards: 1. Rescuer positioning: Do not position yourself between the rescue tool and an object to be worked on. 2. Under pressure: Never disconnect the hoses, couplers, fittings, etc. under pressure.

18 Potential Hazards: 3. Under pressure: Never cut [spread] objects under tension or pressure (ex. shock absorbers, springs, pressurized cylinders). CUTTING [spreading] THESE AND SIMILAR OBJECTS RISKS INJURY TO THE OPERATOR AND BYSTANDERS FROM PROJECTILE PIECES. 4. Vehicle hazards: Use caution in cutting, crushing, or spreading as to avoid hazards in vehicle construction such as: air bag controllers and components, seat belt pre-tensioners, and onboard computers.

19 Potential Hazards: 5. Leaking hose: Never attempt to grasp a leaking hose under pressure with your hands. The force of escaping hydraulic fluid could cause serious injury. -Hurst Manual; suggested application to TNT 6. Prevent tool fatigue: To help prevent material fatigue if the cylinder is to be used in a continuous application, the load should not exceed 85% of the rated cylinder load limit. 20 B.E.A.R.S. instructions: #1. Companies are not responsible to check fluid levels. #2. Do not attempt self-repair. #3. Send to BEARS if: 1) Any leaking is noticed. 2) Unit does not work correctly. #4. Per BEARS, TNT tool is otherwise maintenance free.

21 Operating the TNT Forcible Entry Tool: 1. Air Vent Pin: Pull UP the open air vent to allow air to move freely in and out of the pump reservoir during tool operation.

22 2. Valve: Turn the valve on the Hand Pump CLOCKWISE *[all the way] to Operate.

23 3. Push Pads: For optimum performance, place load on the center of each push pad.

24 4. Pump: Move the pump handle up and down to activate the tool (Note: For most effective operation, the Hand Pump should be in the HORIZONTAL position. IF horizontal is not possible, use pump vertically with hose DOWN. 5. Close tool: To close tool, turn pump control knob COUNTER CLOCKWISE to Release.
