3 9 AGE Admissions Requirements Applicant must be 21 years of age or older. EDUCATION A high school diploma or G.E.D. is not required (but applicant must furnish a copy of high school diploma or G.E.D. certificate, if applicable, at the time of enrollment). If applicant does not have a high school diploma or G.E.D., an assessment test will be given to determine that the student has the ability to benefit from the training offered. ASSESSMENT TEST Each student that does not have a copy of his/her high school diploma or G.E.D. certificate will be given the Wonderlic ATB test during the first week of school. This test assesses the students ability to read, write and understand the English language, as well as some basic mathematics. MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS Each applicant must pass the Department Of Transportation examination, including but not limited to urinalysis drug screening, and Breath Alcohol Test. REGISTRATION PROCEDURES Applicants must make an appointment for information about admission requirements prior to course registration. Call TRUCKING for an appointment time. FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE If you qualify for financial assistance, all documentation must be completed, approved, and submitted to the Admissions office prior to the beginning of class. 4 INSTRUCTIONAL PROGRAM Course Objectives After graduation from this course, the student will be; 1. Qualified to secure an entry level job as an over the road driver with a commercial driver s license. 2. Aware of safety procedures; alcohol and drug effects; laws and penalties applicable to the professional driver. 3. Proficient at performing pre-trip, on the road, and post trip vehicle and equipment inspections. 4. Skillful in safe driving techniques. 5. Capable of map reading, log books, cargo documentation, dispatch procedures, emergency responsibilities, and regulations of transportation agencies. 6. As an over the road driver, students will travel all 48 states and Canada, in all kinds of weather and terrain. Course information Class Session: 7:00-5:30 p.m. Monday - Friday Lunch Break: 12:00-12:30 p.m.. All Breaks are for 10 minutes. Breaks may be 10 minutes in length at the beginning or end of an hour. Course Length: 200 clock hours. Weeks to complete: 4 weeks. Normal Class Size: 3 to 9 students. Maximum time frame: The maximum time frame for the student to complete the 200 hour course is 300 hours. Each student will receive range driving skills practice and actual street driving experience. A graduate of this program, without prior truck driving experience, needs to drive with an experienced and competent driver at first in order to have sufficient behind-the-wheel experience to drive safely over the road. Start Dates Open entry - a new class will begin every fourth Monday (unless it falls on a Holiday, in which case the class will start the following day, and will end the week on Saturday). 3 Requirements for Graduation In order to graduate, a student must complete the minimum number of required course hours and maintain an overall 70 average during training. The student must pass the CDL examination. Upon satisfactory completion the student will receive a certificate of completion. Cost Tuition $4,350.00* (Books and supplies included in tuition) Fees DOT Physical 40.00** Urinalysis (Drug Screen) 40.00** Moving Violation Report 10.00** *CDL License Fee 60.00** ========= $ ========= $4,500.00* ** All fees paid in advance (NON-REFUNDABLE) (Fees vary due to differences in driver license fees) Requirements for Licensing and DOT Physical: 1. Must have valid Texas driver license. 2. Must have proof of auto liability insurance. 3. Picture I.D. - Must have for Drug Screen! 4. Must have a Social Security card. 5. Must Not have any outstanding tickets or warrants! 8
5 Financial Assistance For those students requiring financial assistance to enroll, public and private agencies may be willing to provide tuition assistance for those individuals who meet the particular agency s requirements. For further information, inquire at one of our admissions offices. *Workforce Investment Act (WIA) These funds are issued through the various Texas Workforce Commission offices and other coordinating agencies throughout Texas. *Trade Adjustment Act (Texas Workforce Commission) *Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services (DARS) 7 REQUIREMENTS FOR D.O.T. CERTIFICATION I understand that failure to meet any of the following requirements will prevent Department of Transportation certification and that any driver who does not possess D.O.T. certification is not permitted to drive in interstate commerce. Student must: 1. Be 21 years of age before residency completion. 2. Read and speak the English language well enough to converse with the general public, to understand traffic signs and signals, to respond to official inquiries, and to make entries on reports and records. 3. Have no currently suspended driver s license in any state. Nor any unpaid traffic tickets in any state. 4. Not have been convicted of driving while intoxicated, driving under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs; possession, transportation, or unlawful use of alcohol or illegal drugs, leaving the scene of an accident which resulted in serious injury or death; or any felony offense involving the use of a motor vehicle within the last year for a first conviction or the last three years for a second conviction. 5. Have no loss of hand, foot, or arm, unless a waiver has been granted pursuant to FMCSR Have no impairment of hand or finger which interferes with prehension or power grasping. 7. Have no defect in arms, foot or leg, which interferes with the ability to perform normal asks associated with operating a motor vehicle. 8. Have no current history or clinical diagnosis of diabetes requiring insulin. 9. Have no current history or clinical diagnosis of cardiovascular disease of a variety known to be accompanied by syncope, dyspnea, collapse, or congestive cardiac failure. 10. Have no current history or clinical diagnosis of high blood pressure, or must be controlled by medication. 11. Have no respiratory dysfunction. 12. Have no clinical diagnosis of epilepsy. 13. Have acceptable eye and hearing acuity. Vision must be correctable to 20/40 for both eyes. 14. Have no clinical diagnosis of nervous, mental or psychiatric disorder. 15. Not use any narcotic or habit forming drugs of any type. 16. Have no clinical diagnosis of alcoholism. 17. Have no rheumatic, arthritic, orthopedic, muscular, neuromuscular, or vascular disease which interferes with the ability to control and operate a motor vehicle safely. 18. Have no more than two moving violations in the last year or four in the past five years. 19. Had no more than one valid driver s license. 20. Be able to pass a DOT physical examination, urinalysis drug screen, and Breath Alcohol Test. 4
