5 Installing Maximo Mobile Suite The installation of IBM Maximo Mobile Suite version involves installing the product, deploying the enterprise archive (EAR) files, and configuring the security settings. You can then install the Maximo Mobile Suite applications onto one or more mobile devices. Before you begin You install Maximo Mobile Suite version on a Windows administrative workstation where IBM Maximo Asset Management version is already installed. Restriction: Maximo Mobile Suite is not compatible with Android devices that have small screens or the lowest level of pixel density, such as the Sony Xperia X10 mini. 1. Prepare to install Maximo Mobile Suite. 2. Access the product software either from IBM Passport Advantage or from the product DVD if you requested one: Option Description IBM Passport Advantage Search for the Maximo Mobile Suite download document on IBM Support Portal ( downloads/software/tivoli/ maximo_mobile_suite). 6 Option Product DVD Description The launchpad starts automatically when you run the product DVD. If the Windows autorun feature is disabled, you can start the launchpad by running the launchpad.exe program from the root directory of the product DVD. If you run 64-bit applications, use launchpad64.exe. 3. Install Maximo Mobile Suite on the administrative workstation by using the launchpad. 4. If you deferred updating the database during the Maximo Mobile Suite installation, update the Maximo database. 5. If you deferred updating the database or redeploying the application during the Maximo Mobile Suite installation, build the EAR files. 6. If you deferred redeploying the application during the Maximo Mobile Suite installation or if you are using Oracle WebLogic Server, deploy the EAR files. 7. Grant access rights to users of the Mobile Installer application. 8. Authenticate users with LDAP application server security. 9. Prepare to install Maximo Mobile Suite on mobile devices. To install Maximo Mobile Suite on Android devices, you must prepare the application package (APK) files as an additional step. 10. Install the Maximo Mobile Suite applications on mobile devices. Preparing to install Maximo Mobile Suite Before you install Maximo Mobile Suite, you must modify the configuration and the content of your application server, database server, and directory server. These servers are known as the middleware servers. Before you begin The installation program requires access to the middleware servers that are installed with Maximo Asset Management. You must use the administrative user IDs and passwords to access the middleware servers. 1. Back up the middleware servers, the database, and the administrative workstation. 2. Prepare the application server. Application server WebSphere Application Server What to do Ensure that the middleware servers are started. The installation program connects to the middleware servers by using the middleware login information that you specify during the product installation. 2 Installation Guide

7 Application server WebLogic Server What to do Ensure that the application server (MAXIMOSERVER) is not running. If the application server is running, stop the server and wait a few minutes before you start the installation program. If the application server is running, the installation process stops. 3. If you are running the installation program in a double-byte language or an Eastern European language, set the workstation regional settings to that language. You can reset your regional settings after you complete the installation. What to do next Install Maximo Mobile Suite on the administrative workstation. Installing Maximo Mobile Suite on the administrative workstation You start the installation program for Maximo Mobile Suite from the launchpad. During the installation, you provide information about the language, the installation location, and the product that you are installing. About this task By default, during the installation, the Maximo database is updated and the EAR files are built and deployed. However, you must initially select the option to defer the redeployment of the Maximo Asset Management application so that you can enable the license after the product is installed. The EAR files must be rebuilt and redeployed after each update of the Maximo database. You might want to defer the redeployment if you plan to install more products after Maximo Mobile Suite. 1. Start the launchpad and click Install the Product. 2. Click the link for the Maximo Mobile Suite component that you want to install. 3. If another language must be installed in the environment, in the Add Features window, select the Language Support Feature check box. 4. In the Package Options window, select the Defer Maximo Application Redeployment check box to defer the redeployment. 5. Follow the steps in the installation program. When the Pre-Install Summary window opens, verify that the system check passes successfully with no error messages. If any errors occur, you can search for the message IDs in the Troubleshooting and support section of the Maximo Asset Management 7.5 information center. 6. When the installation is complete, click Done, but do not close the launchpad. 7. From the launchpad screen, select Enable IBM Maximo Mobile License for usage. 8. Follow the steps in the installation program. v If you are installing more mobile applications, in the Package Options window, select Defer Maximo Application Redeployment and click Next. 8 v If you installed all the mobile applications that you need, leave the check boxes cleared and click Next. When the installation is complete, click Done. 9. Optional: To install more mobile applications, run the launchpad for each application and install only the license. The application code was installed when the launchpad was first run. For example, to install Mobile Inventory Manager, run the Mobile Inventory Manager launchpad and select Enable IBM Maximo Mobile Inventory Manager License for usage. When the installation is complete, click Done. What to do next v Ensure that you have the most current build with all recent fixes. To download and install the latest fix pack, search the IBM Support Portal ( maximo_mobile_suite). v Review any release notes for your product. v Grant access rights to users of the Mobile Installer application. Related tasks: Troubleshooting the installation Related information: Release notes for Maximo Mobile Suite Granting access rights to users of the Mobile Installer application The system administrator or the group of users who are responsible for installing the Maximo Mobile Suite applications must have read access to the Mobile Installer application. You grant access rights from the Security Groups (Mobile) application. 1. Log in to Maximo Mobile Suite on the administrative workstation. 2. From the Security Groups (Mobile) application, select the security group that is responsible for the installation. For example, enter MAXADMIN. 3. Click the Applications tab and click the Mobile subtab. 4. Select the Mobile Installer application and select the check box to grant read access. 5. Save the group record and exit the session to apply the changes. What to do next Add security groups for the Maximo Mobile Suite users and grant access to the Maximo Mobile Suite applications for each of the groups. Authenticate users on a lightweight directory access protocol (LDAP) server. 9 1. In the install_home\maximo\applications\maximo\mobileweb\webmodule\web- INF directory, open the web.xml file. 2. Set the useappserversecurity attribute to true. 3. Delete the opening <!- - and closing -->tags to uncomment the lines after the <login-config> and <security-constraint> tags. 4. Build the EAR files. 5. Deploy the EAR files. 6. Synchronize the users and the groups from LDAP into the system by setting one of the following cron tasks to active: v VMMSYNC for WebSphere Application Server v LDAPSYNC for WebLogic Server Updating the Maximo database If you deferred updating the Maximo database when you ran the installation program, then you must manually update the Maximo database. 1. Open a command prompt and change to the install_home\maximo\tools\ maximo directory. 2. Run the following command: updatedb What to do next Build the EAR files. Building the EAR files If you deferred updating the Maximo database or application redeployment when you ran the installation program, you must build the enterprise archive (EAR) files. Before you begin The Maximo database must be updated with Maximo Mobile Suite data. The Maximo database can be updated automatically during the installation, or it can be updated manually after the installation by running the updatedb command. About this task EAR files are archives that contain all the required files to run Maximo Asset Management together with the Maximo Mobile Suite application. You must build the EAR files to add Maximo Mobile Suite data. The EAR files that must be built and deployed are: maximo.ear and maximoiehs.ear. 1. To build the maximo.ear file, change to the install_home\maximo\deployment\ directory and run the following command: buildmaximoear.cmd If your environment is running WebSphere Application Server version 8 or later, run the buildmaximoearwas8.cmd file instead. To build the help system EAR file, change to the install_home\maximo\ deployment\ directory and run the following command: buildmxiehsear.cmd What to do next If you use WebLogic Server, deploy the EAR files. If you use WebSphere Application Server, deploy the EAR files. Deploying the EAR files on WebLogic Server If you use WebLogic Server, after you install Maximo Mobile Suite, you must deploy the EAR files from the WebLogic Server console. Deploying the EAR files starts the application server. Before you begin v The Maximo database must be updated with Maximo Mobile Suite data. The Maximo database can be updated automatically during the installation, or it can be updated manually after the installation by running the updatedb command. v The EAR files that must be built before they can be deployed are: maximo.ear and maximoiehs.ear. v On Windows, if the MAXIMOSERVER server is not running, start the server by using a command prompt. v On UNIX and Linux, ensure that the WebLogic Server daemon is running. To use the WebLogic Server console, you must have a Java virtual machine installed. 1. Change to the mydomain directory: Operating system Windows UNIX and Linux Location Open a command prompt and change to the weblogic_home\user_projects\domain\ mydomain directory. Open a command prompt and change to the weblogic_home/user_projects/ domains/mydomain directory. 2. Start WebLogic Server: Operating system Windows UNIX and Linux Command startweblogic.cmd./startweblogic.sh 3. Specify the WebLogic Server user name and password. 4. Start the MAXIMOSERVER administration console by entering the following URL in the address bar of your browser: 5. Log on to the WebLogic Server console. 6. 11 Deploying the EAR files on WebSphere Application Server The EAR files are installed on WebSphere Application Server during the Maximo Asset Management installation. If you deferred the update of the Maximo database and the application redeployment during the Maximo Mobile Suite installation, you must manually build and deploy the EAR files. If your organization has application deployment restrictions that require you to deploy application files manually, you must deploy the EAR files. Before you begin v The Maximo database must be updated with Maximo Mobile Suite data. The Maximo database can be updated automatically during the installation, or it can be updated manually after the installation by running the updatedb command. v The two EAR files that must be built before they can be deployed are: maximo.ear and maximoiehs.ear. 1. Deploy the maximo.ear EAR file: install_home\jacl\solutions\deployapplication.ext WASAdminUserName WASAdminPassword "MAXIMO" WASNodeName WASApplicationServerName "install_home\maximo\deployment\default\maximo.ear" WASVirtualHost WASWebServerName The ext variable represents the file extension for the batch command file. Valid values are bat for Windows or sh for UNIX and Linux. 2. Deploy the maximoiehs.ear help system EAR file: install_home\jacl\solutions\deployapplication.ext WASAdminUserName WASAdminPassword "MAXIMOIEHS" WASNodeName WASApplicationServerName "install_home\maximo\deployment\default\maximoiehs.ear" WASVirtualHost WASWebServerName Preparing to install Maximo Mobile Suite on Windows and Android mobile devices You must configure the properties files to enable communication between the Maximo Mobile Suite processes and the application server. You must also run packaging command files to bundle the data into profiles for installation on mobile devices. Android devices require an additional step to prepare the application package (APK) files for installation. Configuring the Maximo Mobile Suite properties to access the application server The properties files contain data about the Windows and Android operating systems and they allow communication between Maximo Mobile Suite and the application server. About this task The mobile.properties file is embedded in each application bundle. You enter information in this file about the mobile device, the application server, and the features that are used for each type of device. The mobiletools.properties file contains different data that allows the Maximo Mobile Suite processes to communicate with the application server. Installing Maximo Mobile Suite 7

12 1. Edit the Windows mobile.properties file and specify the host name and port values. The mobile properties file is in the install_home\maximo\mobiletools\ profiles\windows\common\appsetup directory. 2. Edit the Android mobile.properties file and specify the host name and port values. The mobile properties file is in the install_home\maximo\mobiletools\ profiles\android\common\appsetup directory. 3. Edit the mobiletools.properties file and specify the host name, port, SLL, user name, and password values. The mobile tools properties file is in the install_home\maximo\mobiletools directory. What to do next Import the Maximo Mobile Suite application data. Related reference: Maximo Mobile Suite application properties on page 15 You must specify certain values in the mobile.properties file to enable communication to and from the application server. Related information: Mobile component cannot connect to server Importing Maximo Mobile Suite application data Files that are critical to the installation and configuration of Maximo Mobile Suite applications must be imported to the application server. You use the.cmd files that are provided to import and package Maximo Mobile Suite data. 1. Start the application server. 2. Open a command prompt and change to the install_home\maximo\ mobiletools\maximo directory. 3. Run the following command: importall.cmd If an error occurs that states the tools.jar file was not found, disregard the message. What to do next If the base language of your application server is not English, translate the Maximo Mobile Suite applications. If you are installing on an Android device, prepare the application package files. Next, package the Maximo Mobile Suite application bundles. 13 Before you begin You must import the Maximo Mobile Suite application data before you translate the user interface. About this task Restriction: Maximo Mobile Suite does not support bidirectional languages. 1. Open a command prompt and change to the install_home\maximo\ mobiletools\maximo directory. 2. Run the following command: translatemobile.cmd 3. When the build is complete, restart the application server. What to do next If you are installing on an Android device, prepare the application package files. Next, package the Maximo Mobile Suite application bundles. Preparing to install Maximo Mobile Suite on Android devices Maximo Mobile Suite applications must be signed and certified before they are installed on an Android device. You can either create new application package (APK) files or use the APK files that are provided in the download. About this task For Android devices, you must download and install both the Oracle Java Development Kit (JDK) version 6 and Android software development kit (SDK) revision 21. The Android SDK uses an Oracle Java virtual machine (JVM) directory. Requirement: If you are running a 64-bit system, you must install the 32-bit versions of both the Oracle JDK and the Android SDK. 1. Install the Oracle JDK: a. Go to the Oracle product website and search for Oracle JDK version 6 ( b. Download and install the 32-bit JDK for your operating system. 2. Install the Android SDK: a. Go to the Android developers website (developer.android.com/sdk/ index.html). b. From the Get the Android SDK page, click Download for other platforms and, from the SDK Tools Only table, download Android SDK revision 21. For information about version compatibility, see the IBM Support Portal ( maximo_mobile_suite). c. Select the 32-bit option and install the SDK on your computer. d. Open the Android SDK Manager program, select Android (API 10), and click Install packages. Installing Maximo Mobile Suite 9

14 3. Optional: Create APK files that are signed with your own certificate. If you do not create your own signed APK files, the system uses the sample.keystore file that is provided. a. From your device, browse to the /mnt/sdcard/ directory and delete the maximomobile folder if it exists. You must also uninstall any Maximo Mobile Suite applications that are already installed on your device. b. Go to the Android developers website and follow the instructions for signing in release mode (developer.android.com/tools/publishing/appsigning.html#releasemode). c. Create signed APK files for the mobileam, mobileinv, and mobilewo entry points. d. Save the keystore files in the install_home\maximo\mobiletools\profiles\ android\common\devicesetup directory. e. Go to the install_home\maximo\mobileapplications\android-entry-points\ mobileam directory and open the ant.properties file with a text editor. f. Specify the path and the password of the keystore file that you are using. g. Save and close the file. h. Specify the same information in the other ant.properties files, which are in the mobileinv and mobilewo directories. Results The Maximo Mobile Suite APK files are signed and certified for use on your mobile device. What to do next Package the Maximo Mobile Suite application bundles. Packaging Maximo Mobile Suite application bundles The packaging process creates Maximo Mobile Suite application bundles. The bundles are uploaded to the application server to create profiles that run the Maximo Mobile Suite applications. You can package the applications for use with Windows or Android operating systems. Before you begin For Android devices, the application package (APK) files must be signed and certified. 1. To package applications for an Android operating system, open the setandroidenv.cmd file and specify the path to the Android SDK folder and to the Oracle JDK folder. For example, set ANDROID_HOME=C:\Android_sdk The folders might be in the C:\Program Files (x86) folder. 2. In a command prompt, change to the install_home\maximo\mobiletools\maximo directory. 3. Packages all of the Maximo Mobile Suite applications. Use this command only for Android operating systems. Packages all of the applications in Maximo Mobile Suite and creates an Android application package (APK) file. Use this command only for Windows operating systems. Packages a single Maximo Mobile Suite application. Use this command only for Android operating systems. Packages a single Maximo Mobile Suite application and creates an Android APK file. 4. Exit the command window. The package-output folder is created in the install_home\maximo\mobiletools directory. The package-output folder contains the JAR files for Windows operating system and the APK files for Android operating system. 5. Optional: Copy the APK files to your Android mobile device to install the Maximo Mobile Suite applications. What to do next Install the Maximo Mobile Suite applications on a Windows or an Android device. Related information: Project target android-10 cannot be resolved Mobile component times out and cannot be restarted Installing the Maximo Mobile Suite applications on mobile devices You download the Maximo Mobile Suite profile that is generated by the packaging command file. You can use a web browser to download the profile or you can use the synchronization software that is provided by your device manufacturer. Before you begin If you want to create new profiles that are not the default profiles, you must ensure that the Windows profile name and the Android profile names are both unique: From the install_home\maximo\mobiletools\profiles\platform directory, edit the profile.properties file and specify a unique profile name in the profile.properties file of each platform folder and save the files. 16 Installing Maximo Mobile Suite on Windows or Android mobile devices by using a web browser You can access a URL on your Windows or Android mobile device to download and install the Maximo Mobile Suite applications. Before you begin The Android web browser that is installed on the device might not be compatible with the Mobile Installer download. Install a compatible web browser, such as Opera Mobile, Firefox, or Chrome. On Android devices, select the setting to allow applications to be installed from providers outside of Play Store. For example, go to Settings > Security and select Unknown Sources. Your device must be connected to the application server before you can log in to the Maximo Mobile Suite applications. 1. Open a command prompt, change to the install_home\maximo\mobiletools\ maximo\ directory, and run the following command: importinstallers.cmd 2. On the mobile device, go to and select the installation program for either a Windows or an Android operating system. 3. Download and install the Mobile Installer application: Option Windows only Android only Description On the mobile device, select Device as the location for the installation files, and tap Install. If the installation does not start automatically, browse to the directory where the MobileInst.apk file was saved. Start the Mobile Installer application by tapping the MobileInst.apk file. 4. Log in to the Mobile Installer application by entering the host name, port, user name, and password. This information connects the device to the application server. 5. Select a profile to start the download. 6. Close the application. Related information: The Mobile Installer download fails Installing Maximo Mobile Suite applications on Windows mobile devices by using Windows synchronization software The synchronization application that you use depends on the version of Windows operating system on your mobile device. The installation package includes Java virtual machine and IBM DB2 Everyplace database. 12 Installation Guide

17 Before you begin For computers or mobile devices that run Windows XP or an older version, install Microsoft ActiveSync version 4.5 or a later version. For computers or mobile devices that run Windows Vista, Windows 7, or a later version, Install Windows Mobile Device Center version 6.1 or a later version. For more information about installation and version compatibility, see the Microsoft website. 1. Start Microsoft ActiveSync or Windows Mobile Device Center and connect the mobile device to the computer. 2. Open a command prompt, change to the install_home\maximo\mobiletools\ installers directory, and select the installation folder for your device. The folder that you use depends on whether you are using Windows Mobile version 5 or 6, and whether your mobile device has an Xscale or ArmV4T processor. 3. Run the CEAppMgr.cmd command file. The installation files are automatically copied onto the device. 4. On the mobile device, select Device as the location for the installation files, and click Install. 5. Click OK. 6. Start the Mobile Installer application from the device. 7. To log in to the Mobile Installer application, specify the host name, port, user name, and password. This information connects the device to the application server. 8. Select a profile to start the download. 9. Close the application. Installing Maximo Mobile Suite applications on a Windows personal computer You can install Maximo Mobile Suite applications on Windows desktop computers, notebooks, or tablet computers. 1. On the administrative workstation, browse to the install_home\maximo\ mobiletools\devicesetup\desktop directory. 2. Copy the IBM_maximo_Mobile folder onto the personal computer where you are installing Maximo Mobile Suite. 3. When the transfer is complete, browse to the IBM_maximo_Mobile directory and open the setenv.cmd file in a text editor. Ensure that the path to the Java runtime environment is correct. 4. Double-click the Mobile_Installer.cmd file to start the Mobile Installer application. 5. Log in to the Mobile Installer application by entering the host name, port, user name, and password. 18 Installing Maximo Mobile Suite applications on Android mobile devices by using Android synchronization software You can use the Android synchronization software that is provided by your device manufacturer to download and install Maximo Mobile Suite on multiple mobile devices. Before you begin The Maximo Mobile Suite application package (APK) files must be signed and certified for use with an Android device. Ensure that you packaged the Android profile and that no build errors occurred. Your device must be connected to the application server to log in to the Maximo Mobile Suite applications. You must have a File Manager application on your device that is compatible with APK files, such as ASTRO File Manager. The standard File Manager application that is installed on the device might not show APK files or allow them to run. 1. Connect the device to the administrative workstation and start the Android synchronization software program. 2. From the install_home\maximo\mobiletools\installers\android directory, copy the MobileInst.apk file to a writable folder in the external storage directory. Most Android devices use an SD memory card, which is shown as an external storage directory in Windows Explorer. 3. Disconnect the device from the computer. 4. On the device, browse to the directory where the MobileInst.apk file was saved. Tap the MobileInst.apk file to start the installation program. 5. Log in to the Mobile Installer application by entering the host name, port, user name, and password. This information connects the device to the application server. 6. From the profile menu, download the Android profile. 7. Click OK to close the application and open a File Manager application, such as ASTRO File Manager. 8. Maximo Mobile Suite application properties Property Value to be entered maximo.mobile.snapshot To allow users to operate different devices without having to perform full refreshes each time they move to a different device, you set the maximo.mobile.snapshot property to true. This setting helps to minimize the volume of data on shared devices. When a user logs off the device, all of the data is moved from the device onto the application server. When the user logs back in to the device, the data is uploaded to the device again. This setting creates maximum memory usage by the device without losing any details from a user's session. The user can log in on any device because information is stored on the application server and not on individual devices. maximo.mobile.snapshot.chunksizekb The size, in KB, that the data from a user's session is divided into for faster transmission between the application server and the mobile device. The size limit is imposed when the maximo.mobile.snapshot.chunksizekb property is set to true and a user's session data exceeded this limit. The default limit is 1000 KB. For example, if a user's session contains 2000 KB of data to be uploaded to the application server, then the mobile device sends two transmissions of 1000 KB each to the application server. maximo.mobile.refreshdata.numberrec The number of records to be downloaded by each request when the user refreshes the mobile device. You can adjust the number of records that the mobile device retrieves according to the network latency. The default record download value is 50. maximo.mobile.android.connection.connecttimeout=10000 The timeout value, in milliseconds, that is used when opening a communications link to the application server. maximo.mobile.android.connection.readtimeout= The timeout value, in milliseconds, that is used when reading data from the application server.
