1 SAFETY RECALL NOTICE Bombardier Recreational Products Inc. 565 de la Montagne Street Valcourt, Québec, Canada J0E 2L0 T F Date: November 11, 2011 Re: GTS and GTI Series Front Storage Compartment Cover Cracking Dear Sea-Doo Watercraft Dealer/Distributor, This notice is being sent to you in cooperation with the U.S. Coast Guard and Transport Canada and is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the Federal Boat Safety Act and other applicable laws. Bombardier Recreational Products Inc. and BRP US Inc. ( BRP ) are conducting a voluntary safety recall of certain MY2011 and MY2012 Sea-Doo Watercraft models as specified in the attached Safety Campaign Bulletin. What is the potential problem? In rough water conditions, the storage cover may break around its hinge. This could cause the storage cover to dislodge and hit the operator and/or passenger resulting in personal injury or loss of control. What will BRP do? BRP is sending a Safety Recall letter to all known registered owners of these watercraft. This letter urges that the owners immediately contact their authorized BRP Sea-Doo Watercraft dealer in order to have their watercraft inspected and repaired. Also, BRP posted this notice and attached Safety Campaign Bulletin on its dealer web site ( and on its public web site ( What should you do? 1. Do not sell, deliver or use any involved watercraft that you have in stock until repair has been completed. 2. Contact all of your customers who have purchased this product. You must inform them about the foregoing and request that they make an appointment to get their watercraft repaired. 3. Follow all instructions applicable to model provided in the attached Safety Campaign Bulletin. 3 PROBLEM In rough water conditions, the storage cover may break around its hinge. This could cause the storage cover to dislodge and hit the operator and/or passenger resulting in personal injury or loss of control. SOLUTION MY2011 Inspect the inner shell of front storage compartment cover for cracks. Replace inner shell if a crack is found. Install a cover brace to reinforce the cover. Install a deflector to reduce water force applied to the storage cover. Install the protective pad inside the watercraft cover. MY2012 Inspect the inner shell of front storage compartment cover for cracks. Replace inner shell if a crack is found. Install a deflector to reduce water force applied to the storage cover. Install the protective pad inside the watercraft cover. Open storage compartment cover. 2. Remove nuts and bolts securing storage compartment cover to hinge. sbg INSPECT AREA IN DARK Replace the inner shell if a crack is found. Refer to appropriate PARTS CATALOG to order the proper inner shell. NOTE: Order inner shell through the normal channel. Replacement of Storage Compartment Cover Inner Shell 1. Remove inner shell retaining screws. smr _a 1. Retaining nuts 3. Remove storage compartment cover. Front Storage Compartment Cover Inspection Check the area around the hinge attachments to find any cracks. smr _a INNER SHELL RETAINING SCREWS 2. Unlatch both retaining tabs at the rear using a screwdriver. SAFETY CAMPAIGN / 10

5 smr _a RETAINING TABS 3. Unlatch retaining tabs on both sides using a screwdriver. smr _a TIGHTENING SEQUENCE Cover Brace Installation 1. Install the cover brace into the cover point as per the following illustration. NOTE: Make sure the cover brace is properly pressed against the inner shell lip. smr Disassemble inner shell from storage compartment cover. 5. Carefully remove sealing gasket from inner shell and install it on the new shell. 6. Install the new inner shell. 7. Tighten inner shell retaining screws to specification as per the following sequence. Inner shell retaining screws TIGHTENING TORQUE 2.0 N m (18 lbf in) sbg _a 1. Cover brace 2. Inner shell lip 2. Firmly hold the brace in place and, using the brace as a template, drill 5 holes of 6.35 mm (1/4 in). NOTICE Make sure to drill the inner shell only. Because the space between the inner shell and the cover is very small. 4 / SAFETY CAMPAIGN

6 sbg _a 1. Deflector sbg Secure the cover brace using provided rivets. 3. Firmly hold the deflector and, using the deflector as a template, drill 6 holes of 5.4 mm (7/32 in). NOTE: Pay attention to position the drill perpendicularly with the flat surface around the hole. sbg Deflector installation 1. Install 2 lengths of masking tape on the body, in front of front storage compartment opening as per the following illustration. sbg Remove the deflector and using a 3/8 in counter sink bit, countersink all previously drilled holes until the countersunk area reach 7 mm to 8 mm (9/32 in to 5/16 in) of diameter. NOTE: Countersink drilled holes reduce the possibility of gelcoat cracking during screws installation. sbg _a 1. Masking tape 2. Storage compartment opening sbg COUNTER SINK BIT (3/8 X 1/4, 82 ) 2. 7 sbg INSERT ONLY THE TAPERED SECTION OF THE COUNTER SINK BIT sbg _a TIGHTENING SEQUENCE Protective Pad Installation A protective pad is provided to protect the cover against a possible tear caused by the tip of the deflector. If the watercraft is equipped with a cover, install the protective pad inside cover, just under the front BRP logo. sbg _a A. 7 mm to 8 mm (9/32 in to 5/16 in) 5. Remove masking tape and clean residues before installing the deflector. 6. Install all provided screws to secure the deflector and tighten them to specification. TIGHTENING TORQUE Deflector screws 8.0 N m (71 lbf in) Front Storage Compartment Cover Installation The installation is the reverse of the removal procedure. However, pay attention to the following. Tighten storage compartment cover retaining nuts to specification as per the following sequence. sbg _a 1. Protective pad If the watercraft does not have cover, place the protective pad in the glove box for future use.
