2 The dynamic and rapidly evolving field of communication and information technology is one that has changed our lives immeasurably in the last decade. The power, speed and availability of information will continue to define our social, political and economic landscape. To this end, KTH has devised a wide-ranging Master s programme aimed at qualifying a new era of engineers able to bring an innovative approach to this important area. This degree programme provides a thorough understanding of all network systems and the services they provide, preparing students to work in the vanguard of research and development, in academia or in the industry. The programme begins with a block of foundation courses on internetworking, wireless networks, network security and management, and theory of science. Students can then follow the Design and Technology track covering a wide range of modern networks, networked services and mathematical tools, or the Enterprise track, focusing on the design of industrial IT systems. Finally, students can take freely elective courses providing in-depth knowledge in a particular area, depending on individual interests or career aims. degree project The final degree project corresponds to five months fulltime studies and is examined at KTH. Degree projects performed at the university are part of ongoing research and provide the opportunity to build close contacts with a research group. Degree projects can be performed with industrial partners as well, and these projects are often related to research and development. A two-year degree in Network Services and Systems offers Master s students the opportunity to join this highly sought-after area of education, acquiring thorough knowledge applicable in traditional telecommunication as well as in the emerging areas of cyber-physical systems like intelligent transportation, smart grids or health-care. Sweden has a thriving industry in this field, which together with the established reputation of KTH, provides students with a multitude of career choices after graduation.

4 New types of networks, from the very small to the very large scale, emerge around us every day. They provide the enabling technology for all smart services we envision - and endless possibilities for professionals working in the field.
