1 Instructors CERTIFICATION IN TEACHING BUSINESS ENGLISH SYLLABUS Friday: 12:00pm 4:00pm Saturday and Sunday: 9:00am 1:00pm and 2:00pm 6:00pm Tom Kearin, MBA, CPA, TEFL Ken Jones, MS, MBA, TESOL Course Overview Teaching English as a second language is becoming more specialized and Business English is becoming an increasingly important part of the ESL industry. Business English teachers need to be creative and highly imaginative, because Business English is simply a catch-all phrase. Ultimately each company and each business person will have specific demands and needs to meet their Business English objectives. The Maximo Nivel Certificate in Teaching Business English (TBE) is both a theoretical and practical course in how to prepare non-native English speakers to effectively conduct themselves in international business settings. During the 3-day course, participants become familiar with business concepts and terminology, needs analysis, teaching methodologies, materials creation, course design, and testing evaluation for teaching Business English. The course is designed for participants who have already completed a minimum 120-hour TEFL/TESOL Certification course, and who are now looking to specialize in teaching Business English or who desire an additional ESL qualification. About the Instructors Tom Kearin has a Bachelor s in Accounting and an MBA in Finance; he is also a certified accountant (CPA) in the states of Massachusetts and Nevada. Tom is TEFL certified and has taught ESL throughout Latin America. Ken Jones has a Bachelor s in Communications, a Master s in Organizational Development, and an MBA in International Business. He is TESOL certified and has taught ESL in Latin America and Europe. Instructors Comments about the Course We believe the best way for participants to learn is through an eclectic approach including lectures, class discussions, presentations, group work, and individual projects. Our intent is for participants to feel simultaneously challenged and comfortable in class. We take responsibility for presenting the information and challenging participants to think creatively and analytically, meanwhile participants must take responsibility for their own learning. We encourage all participants to endeavor to get the most of out of this class the more participants put into their training, the more they will get out it. MAXIMO NIVEL,
